@lockenthusiast If you pull the plastic cover off, the fire alarm will sound in a few minutes as a safety feature, just in case you were burnt to a crisp before you actually were able to actuate the pull station. I did it once at my school by accident with my bag while I was running down the hall to the bathroom because I was gonna puke. The alarm sounds within about 5 minutes if you don't replace the cover. I got suspended for a day for interrupting the entire school's activities lol.

@PhoenixOrion602x BTW, I hit the plastic cover with my bag and knocked it off, puked on the floor next to the alarm, and spent the next five minutes trying (with two teachers) to snap the plastic cover back on. Apparently, you need a screwdriver to get it back on. The decision to suspend me came from administration, the teachers backed me up but it didn't matter, I guess. It might have had something to do with the fact that there was a state service center attached to my school.

@PhoenixOrion602x that's insane. the plastic stopper cover and the actual pull station are two separate devices, there is absolutely no way removing the cover will activate the fire alarm system. Taking the cover off sounds a local piezo to attract attention. It cannot trip the fire system. Not all stopper covers have piezos in them.
