I agree with you. High profile atheists debating/discussing with creationists/chrsitians is giving them (Creationists) a level of credibility that they do not deserve. They are not "non overlapping magesteria", science is reason & truth - creationism is bullshit.. They don't belong in the same universe let alone the same debating hall.

I'd be a little greedier that that... my education came at a price... it took a lot fo time to get my qualifications... and during some of that I had to work in bars, fast food outlets...and go through the mill...
Eventually (after 23 years) I have 2 phd's and I'm still in college although now teaching others.
I certainly will not be spending the fruits of that labour... talking to someone with the education level of a 12 year old... my time is too expensive for me to hand it away for free.

@OrionSyndicate910 i agree with you totally im a believer in God not an athiest and i have seen a few who put forth evidense and had something scientific evidense not at all am i affended i also think on both sides they just end up attacking each other also a waste of time you cant learn anything this way
You say the debating is a waste of time, but why are we all debating in the first place? Are we trying to convert creationists, or put our positions to the test to better ourselves?
About the PastorJer outing thing, usually the religious never claimed to be without sin, so I'm not sure if he actually contradicted himself. I've never watched any of his videos, but I would guess that he goes by that guideline.
I argue to sharpen my wits, learn to control my tempter, and vent hard-earned frustration (that Real Life you were talking about). I realize that I'm going to look silly to them, and that they're going to propagandize whatever I say (just as they would do so with my silence). I make no pretenses at this being a moral crusade; reality needs no defense.
I do it for me, and no-one else (but if someone else laughs, that's a bonus).
The way I look at it is when I am publicly arguing with with a creationist my job isn't to convince them that I'm right. That's obviously a lost cause. What I hope will come of it is that my side argument will have some effect on the people who are observing and sitting on the fence. There's no changing the opinions of the choirs on either side after all.
I do think there are better ways though, especially to make use of YouTube, as mentioned here.

Excellent points man, thus why I don't do debates...
I tried to, a while back, but the opponent didn't seem to even hear what I was saying... waste of time is right.
Now, I just try to make videos, that I haven't found on youtube... this is a challenge, but I think, is worth the effort.
I've shared this video with my subscribers, and hope they'll spread the word, cheers.
