there is going to many Android based OS' to come. Hey Ubuntu is based off Debian but I don't see anyone saying Ubuntu is just a reskinned Debian. I'm happy to see this. Although they can't compete at those price points. Didn't they just see what happened to HP with WebOS? They are going to adjust those prices.
Why is everyone complaining for the $500 price. This price is totally unlocked. The device is not even linked to any carriers. All the others are at a lower price only because you have to pay for a contract.
I would definitely be interested in the Grid10 if I didn't have a Xoom already. I am however interested in the possibility or feasibility of porting GridOS over to other devices. But I don't think anyone has been able to find a dump as of yet. As for the Grid4..I would be interested if it had better specs. With all the dual-core phones set to come out soon, it seems too little too late. However, as a proof of concept it's very interesting.
Definatly would love to try this out. Especially the phone, id replace my iphone anyday. And especcially with the $400 offf contract price, its a winner today, and the OS looks amazing, the depth of Android with the looks of Windows would just be perfect. I hope the skyrocket!
to tell you the truth every tablet computer i have ever used has disappointed me dismally but this tablet looks like the one that may the one i will engage in
Running the android kernel does not make it a reskinned android. Everything in the OS besides the kernel was written by them. It runs Android apps because they use the Dalvik JVM and have preserved the Android stack/API in what is actually an incredibly smart move. Instead of developers waiting for adoption waiting for apps(which requires the developers), they can hit the ground running with Android App compatibility, and when "how many apps can it run" is a prereq to purchase, it makes sense.
This is pretty nice, but quite frankly I think this would be better of as a desktop OS of android, it seems a bit huge for just a little phone, I'm still shocked at what froyo is doing on my sidekick 4g
P2: What bothers me, is the rather high price of 499$ for the Tablet.... Cut the price, or people are rather targeting the cheaper and "popular tablet made for people by Apple". Otherwise, the Phone seems rather reasonable - no FullHD though. I am interested to see how the Photo/Video Quality looks like. Also, i want to look at some pre/re-views soon.
theses products are really getting my interest. Seriously ? There are a ton of Android Tablets out there, and up until now, only stock HC or GB/FR seems to fit my liking. TW and Sense are rather ugly i believe (i know, it´s just my liking) BUT, this tablet does differentiates himself through this gridlock. Although i believe this may get confusing if you don´t keep an eye on the grid, this is looking sexy to me. I also see some elements of the "else" linux OS - the wheel? anyone ? ;)
I watched the webcast, and the Grid4 seemed to be... too little. The GridOS's desktop seems more fit for a big screen, not a small phone's display. The browser looked rather jumpy, not much smooth, when it came to switching tabs.
Grid10 looks good.
That announcer was correct about everything looking similar to each other in the current market. A change is good. The grid desktop is a cool idea, but rather erratic. They should improve their products in the next year, or they'll end up dead.
i dont like thia im already set with anrdoid if its not better why should i change to them and i doubt there market place if they are even confident enough to make will be worst than the windows phone market.
@boob1019 Thats good, then that means their are options and you could find the perfect tablet for you unlike the Video Game Industry which has only Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo (PC optional)
Since its last gen hardware, will this Android-based GridOS run smoothly? Android doesn't run smoothly like iOS and WP7 do. UX is nice i'll say but something's amiss.
this phone and tablet partnership is horrible. worse ive seen so far. apple would be laughing at there presentation of these devices. i just dont ever see myself using these at all.
Second: I would by the phone, because it's looking very sleek and thin for a relatively low price. I'm still stuck on my samsung E900 with touchbuttons everyone seems to hate. I don't need to have a superintuitive phone, you can like anything if you're just used to it!
I think claiming Grid OS is just a skin of Android is quite unfair. That's like saying Apple runs BSD on their computers, as the guy mentioned in the webcast. Apple OS X is based off the BSD kernel can run BSD applications, but does that mean it's a skinned version of BSD?
Since it is based on android I know what I'm getting. Though I already own a thrive tablet, seeing how he grid 10 runs on android, once its released, I wouldn't be surprised to see ports of it for other tablets, and f the thrive gets a port, I'd try it out then.
@Mr777luver couldn't possibly agree more ! ,, and if you checked the keynote presentation,, you'll find it to be pretty laggy ,, bear in mind that this is a dual core tablet, so it's not a hardware problem ,, it's the software that's laggy
the thing about Grid is there not doing anything new the phone is a year behind with specs and there tab dosent look all that epec so i rather keep my money on this one
It has a "military" ui, and as a UI designer, I don't like this. This is another reason I dislike Android... they have different UI for every phone. So, that's why I don't think this will go well... iOS is the way to go.
@DellDork01 This is NOT android. Grid OS is Android BASED there's a big difference meaning this is not a custom Ui on top of android, Grid OS is a different OS running on the same kernel and similar architecture as Android
I don't think many people would buy it just because it's not a know OS. The specs are alright but I don't think I would buy it. People want popular things like Android or iOS, so I don't think that these will sell like butter.
