you were a bit nervous in the beginning, but it went better and i think ur doing real great. could you do a vid for the whole song, not only this riff? some solo's aned other stuff, I want to do that too :)

could you put the camara somewhere else so that we see you right hand better?

  • @Flevorocks haha i feel you. this was my first vid check out some others there better quality. Im working alot on my personal music right now so it's difficult to do lessons but I definitely will keep it in mind its a great song.

  • He, I still love this song VERY much, and your TUT is very good, but can you please record it again, in higher qualitiy? The same quality as your other vids?

  • love this lesson~GREAT help

i've learnt guitar for just 6 weeks n i grab everything.

    Thanks, man^^

  • i was confused by the camera~_~

  • that helped me a lot! great.

  • nice lesson dude thanks!

btw, beautiful sound of your guitar

  • video is a lil blurry, but when you taught you moved slow enough it wasn't a problem. Great lesson, great breakdown! You're very talented, would love to see more lessons from you

  • Brandon

Fine job. Biggest hurdle for us old guys (50) is trying not to turn the groove into "Funk#49". I noticed you did something that is just about the best thing anyone can do trying to learn a line; you sang it (in this case to it). In TAB world folks think numbers = music, but that's BS. And in youtube world, you get slagged for camera quality after producing a great video. Good luck my son.

  • Thanks a lot for this tutorial, it really helped!

  • Damn man don't blow us away with the amazing quality of the camera. Jeez how much many was that baby.

  • @DogBoi1692 just learn the riff...

  • @DogBoi1692 fuck you douche

  • @samnovak100 ohhhh!! did you hear that he said fuck you douche. Man that one hurt, it was original too, where did you get that from? Gee, one day I might be able to recover from that insult!!!

  • you sir are amazing! thanks dude

  • good lesson, thanks man

  • This was very helpful! You teach it well so I understand everything perfectly. Keep up the good work!

  • Awesome :) This tutorial really helped me, nice and slow. 5/5

  • Excellent job. Thanks. I've been messing with it all day and this really helped seal the deal.

  • thanks so much for the lesson! =)

  • awesome lesson, keep up the good work

  • Thanks man for this lesson! The riff is not so complicated, but it's not so easy to find it just by hearing john's performance! But with your explainations and slow plans, everything becomes easier!!!!!! So a big thanks from Portugal!!!

  • great lesson, very helpful, better than anything else i've been able to find for this song, keep it up!!

  • dude this was a GREAT lesson. I like the pace you taught at. Not too fast, not too slow. THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU so much for the strumming pattern!!! you dont know how many youtube lessons don't go into that!! that helped so much! thank you man! i will check out your other videos and i hope to subscribe to you after checking out more of your stuff!

  • not sure if it's been mentioned in previous posts but, for the beginning of the riff it seems more practical to use your middle finger on the 6th string with your index on the 4th string and ring finger on the 3rd string, rather than using your thumb. this also allows you to mute the strings with minimal or no hand movement. same applies to the second part of the riff by barring with your index. clearly you have no problem playing the riff though. just my two cents...

  • I've looked at a number of videos on playing this little jewel, and I'm actually starting to get it. Thanks for your great teaching and you've got another fan!

  • I had everything figured out exept that chord at the beginning. That you for actually telling us how to play it other than those idiots who just play it really fast and expect you to learn it.

  • Very, very good lesson Brandon! I can do it now! :)

  • umm what pickup do u use and what are ur tone controls?

  • @scabbz123456 The pickup between the middle one and the neck one. And i would just say Treble 8, Middle 7, Bass 7

  • @Turtleboyy Thank you i learned it really quick. Youre a great teacher. Three thumbs up.

  • Great teacher! Thanks Brandon.

  • Brandon - good lesson - thanks - you have got the vibe perfect!

  • Great Lesson, great tone, good explanation - keep it up :D

  • Thanks for the video dude, this was the best one I found. I can definitely play this riff now after watching the vid a few times. Keep'em coming. Can you do some of the songs from Continuum? ...Belief ...etc. Some of the ones that are a little tougher off that album. Thx! :)

  • hey great job man, appreciate your time for the lesson. im killin this song right now!

  • Nice lesson man. These John Mayer's songs are greats (also the covers)! Trying to learn a few ones. It means a lot of work but with some lessons like yours it's easiest! Thanks man!

  • Thanks for helping me out with the whole riff, good job!

  • best lesson on youtube

  • Great teaching, easy lesson to follow Brandon, Keep it up man

  • @pjzeer thanks buddy I will keep it up. Keep checkin for videos.

  • I learnt it on acoustic, i dnt have my own electric yet, and it is much harder to get the mute fitting in correctly, but i cracked it, so thanks a lot Brandon, i also learnt I dont need no doctor and good love is on the way, both amazing lessons thanks.

  • dude thank you so soo much! way better than anything else i found online. and i wouldnt know anything because i havnt seen any of your other videos, but just based off of this.. get a better camera!

  • you are utterly amazing.. i love your lessons

  • @aothing Thanks man I love teaching them...

  • you can also use this for acoustic?

  • @psvth3b3st Sure you can. It will be harder but it's completely possible. I'm sure it's what he does when he plays it acoustic.

  • Thanks a lot man!, really cool and easy to learn tutorial.

  • thanks a ton man. cleared the song up for me a lot!!

  • Awesome lesson! Going to check out your video for edge of desire now. Thanks man

    -Brandon

  • Dude you're a really good teacher. Not rushed and you explain it well. Thanks man

  • thanks you for the simplicity of the lesson and thanks for not cutting corners like other lesson people do

  • Awesoooome:D

  • Man, u rock..! / Swedish fan

  • I'm a GREAT fan of john mayer and a GREATER fan of your tutorials, I have learnt a lot. at 6:02-6:04 : I thought: WOW, how do you do that so quiqe! awsome. you have to try ''bold as love'' and make a cover for us ;P thanks.

  • Ive been searching for ever for a good video on how to play this. Thank you so much man. In five minutes I see the light. Good job bro.

  • HAHA nice! love it.

  • so there's a crap load of muting in this isn't there? because except for the first A note, everything is complete strumming.

i'm having trouble with playing the notes while everything else muted. not sure which fingers to use.

  • Yes there is muting but dont confuse that with palm muting. Figuring out which fingers to use to mute the strings is a test of your own. if it's the a string try using your thumb. just take it slow and go for trial and error and dont assume its gonna feel "right" at first. Takes time but it's worth it. You will get it in time.

  • Nice job dude. Good breakdown of the technique. Keep it up.

  • SWEETNESS

    helped a lot

  • Is that tuned half a step down?

  • I don't remmember haha. But i'm sure you can figure that out on your on right? If not let me know and i'll actually check.

  • @lespaulloon nope

  • Please tell us what amplifaier do you have, how much treble ? Bass ? Distortion channel ?

  • i was actually usin my buddys amp but i use a marshall. just make the bass 7, middle 8, and treble 7

  • Ok but 7/12 ? 7/10 ? I dont know marshalls scale.

    Ps : And distortion ?

  • I actually was usin my buddys line 6 amp NO distortion now that i think about it. i dont even know what kinda marshall amp i have though to be honest :/

  • @BrandonColon

OKok thx for quick anwsers and nice lesson :P

  • I think it is . . . . sounds good anyway good lesson mate.

  • Great lesson man! You're a great teacher. You kept it simple and broke it down nicely.

  • nice teaching man! where did you get the tabs from? did you hear it? thx & kind regards, alex

  • oh man theres tabs everywhere. its pretty basic blues so its pretty predictable...practice blues for a while and youll be able to hear stuff like this easy

  • Great lesson. It was easy to follow.

  • awesome thanks! well done

  • facking geniaal gast :P.

    heel veel aan gehad.

dit is beter dan die klote tabs lezen :P.

  • @Spunkyinternall

    tabs zijn easy man...

  • @ Superknalfantastisch

Thats more the point that I'm tryin to make ;)

  • Nice Brandon!

  • Probably the best tutorial ive seen! i dunno if its just the awesome riff, or just the clean, easy and well paced way you showed it! greatly appreciated!

Will play in front of my friends so they stop slagging john off! they think he's "wishey washey!" aka RUBBISH!!! - IDIOTS!
