i would just try to find the chord that they're playing, then go from there. just don't play the full triad, leave out the middle note. I've learned it by ear too, its not to hard if you just work at it and experiment.

If you've figured out the key from the left hand then it's pretty easy to play the right hand just by ear. It looks like he's playing mainly single notes so it shouldn't be too hard to work out.

i think he played it by sheet then just memorized little piece by piece until he learned and memorized the whole song. because thats what i did with the song "truman sleeps" and i could play it perfectly fine without the music in front of me. i and i looked up the sheet music for this and it looks very similar if not identical

Well I'll have you know that there are two types of musicians out there: those that use sheet music and those that learn by ear. "Learn by ear" does not necessarily entail listening to the song on cd & then playing it according to that.

I learn by ear, and the way I do it is by watching other people play the song on piano. Cheating, I know, but I tried and failed miserably to concentrate on those goddam notes for a year and a half of lessons; most of the time I would just memorize the song.
