Cher has delivered some nice performances...but on this one I have to hand the trophy to Nancy. I think maybe it's because Nancy (despite her birth into near-royalty) is a type of person who has gotten "shot down." I don't think Cher would let anybody shoot her down....

This is good - I hadnt heard the original version before and the variation in speed is interesting. I agree with one poster's comparison of the music to Ennio Morricone. Nancy Sinatra's version has that haunting beauty (imagine pre gun battle).

Can't help but see the fat drag queen from the Nanny singing this. Love the music on both this and Nancy's though, both have a ennio morricone feel, which is perfect... Nancy's is just before the gun battle, Cher's is the gun battle.

Or maybe even the 1st car? The claim that the original is better simply because it was 1st is ridiculous, as people say this has none of the emotion of nancy's and from that perspective her's is the much more beautiful and thus a better version also the credit for originality goes to Sonny as he wrote it. Not Cher.

I just learned from Wikipedia that Nancy covered this song. I never knew this was a Sonny and Cher affair. Listening it to the first time, I like this one for the instrumentals and Nancy's version for the emotion. It makes me want to bawl out loud!

This is a good version but listen to the studio version by Terry Reid........ blows this away in my opinion. Nancy Sinatra, Paul Weller and the Raconteurs all have released credible versions too.

this song's pacing is too fast and confused. sonny did not know what direction to take this song, so its all over the place. at one point it turns into a gypsy romp, lol. nancy's is slow, sultry, and oh so perfect.

This is a great version too, but I think this is the one and only time I'd pick Nancy Sinatra's anything over Cher.

I just think it's upsetting that when I tell people Cher did originally they say I'm wrong. Some of them are like "really? I didn't know that" but others just deny it.

Thank god the originals up! Cant stand the version she ended up doing, honestly I do think it just ruined the song.

I do like Nancy Sinatra's version, mostly because of the emotion in the music and the overall sound, but nothing can beat this one because I just love the music and Cher does such an awesome job with it.
