that irrational love defeats the world's programming. You've got these two robots that are trying to go above their basest directives, literally their programming, to experience love
awesome video! i actually just posted a video that i filmed using some of the wall-e action figures and using "meant to live" as the song! looks like you had the same idea, the song fits the movie so perfectly!
theory: you can change your "directive", like wall-e and eve, eve: find vegetation, wall-e: clean trash, well, wall-e and eve change the directive to that: directive: love
The message behind wall-e is very important caz it tells us about the end times when Chirst comes back i love this monvie and it is very touching to a lot of people also i love swithfoot they rock and i think if people paid attention to most of whats going on now i think we are in the last days like it says in the bible im a christian and i consider u being one too plus everybody need to live for the lord instead of yourselfs May God Bless You All
Of course - artistic ability is not dependent on belief system. And it's a good film, not denying that. What I have a problem with is a movie being made for one purpose, & marketed for another - he's honestly surprised that some people haven't seen it as he does. That, or he's not as good as he thinks he is, because the message he made has not been interpreted as he wanted. Mainly, I don't like being tricked into watching a sermon from the Bible - I prefer the honesty up front.
But that doesn't mean it's a good film - very often, artists are surprised that people read their work in ways they didn't anticipate. The question is, to what degree does he appreciate the significance of viewers' reactions to the perceived meaning of the story? Environmentalism isn't something 'trendy' as suggested in the article (see reference above) - it is a necessary change in attitude given today's social/global circumstances.
yes, andrew stanton (creator) is christion and in a way based the movie off of a comandment which is finding true love and relationship. but that dosn't mean he's trying to convert people or anything
2 things - 1) I was raised xian, & part of it is spreading the 'word' to 'save' others - to bring others to God. Whatever you do, it's for that purpose, if you are truly xian: most basic is by modeling & most overt is by proselytizing. 2) If you read the article, he's surprised by how the film's been taken as an environmental message - xians tend to disassociate spirituality from nature, talk about 'stewardship', as though humans are above nature. Not true. Film's a pamphlet in disguise.
that's one thing I wish Christians would do more for,the environment. to often christians get confused on that issue. They don't know whether to believe in the global warming thery or not or wheather to give money to the crazy environmetalist who "worship" trees.
The truth is we were told to be stewards of the environment. But I think we Americans have a totaly wrong idea on how...
the quote from the director suggests otherwise, re: relationships, although I agree with the 'others' part - and you should watch your spelling: christian, the i goes before the a to create the proper pronunciation. 'xian' is a short form for writing text quickly, fyi - or would you rather I put it "for your information"?
so are you saying it's all about xians? why is the director's spirituality important? that disappoints me - that he would make a movie to make a point about his religious beliefs like certain other hollywood names (cough - Mel!) - if the whole thing is supposed to be some sort of allegory for a biblical message...I'll still enjoy it, but not in the same way. Same reason I dislike Narnia - quit stuffing Jesus down our throats.
The message of the movie is to have relationships with others. Now if you find that to much of a christian moral and therfore not for you, you got a seriouse problem...
Also just type CHRIST-ains next time, you make yourself look like your scared of the world (Which I'm sure your not)
That is really really bad man. Just cause the guy had a christian moral behind it doesnt make it any less good. So what Christians cant express their beliefs on the big screen? I find your comment very... I don't know. Everything you said before the last 2 comments was fine. But the last one is so uncalled for. Its like, everyone has a right to express themselves and it makes me, well honestly, kind of mad that you feel that they don't, or at least shouldn't, have that right.
I'm not sure to whom you are referring - I get the feeling you are talking about me, commenting on my thoughts about the director's purpose in making the film, but then you mention 'everything you said before the last 2 comments...' - is that to me, or to Petirep? If it's to me, let me clarify: I'm tired of the Judeo-Christian ethic being read into films, like it's the end-all / be-all purpose of storytelling. Yes, the ethic exists, but to say it only comes from Christianity is narrow.
The truth is that the few morals we have left theese days came from christianity and the Bible. It's just a historical fact. America was founded on christian principals.
If you can tell me where the values of the Bill of Rights or the Decleration of Independence can be found in the bible I'd really like to know. The founding principles of this nation have nothing to do with christianity. Liberty and respect for individual human rights comes from the Enlightenment; not Jesus.
Well yeah I understand, and agree, with what you are saying but expressing your beliefs through the media is not a bad thing neccessarily. It is true that mel gibson was expressing it a little strongly, but if you are a Christian, or a Muslim, or a Wiccan, or a Satanist, your beliefs are going to come out in whatever you are creating. Get what im saying?
who gives a crap about Christianity. I saw the movie and it had no religious overtones. You care so much about shoehorning every little thing in life into either god or not god that you're the one who lacks context.
The director IS a christian and he said this WAS the message of the movie. I said nothing about religious overtones. All I said was the message of the movie is that we should have relationships, and live for more than just ourselves.
