  • So cute.............................

  • where is part 6?

  • LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

  • I had the biggest crush on Merrell Jackson when this movie came out. And, I was only 8yrs old. May he always R.I.P.

  • When i was kid i thought Merrell Jackson was a relative of Michael Jackson! lol

  • R.I.P Merrell Jackson.. Beautiful Voice

  • "Eli Stone" was the T.V. show Victor Garber was in. It was a great show. Too bad it was cancelled.

  • Great musical. Thanks for posting!

  • goosebumps every time

  • I've been smiling when I hear this song since 1979 . . . . Thank you for the smile you gave me today . . . . Peace !

  • I love this song! So much Love and Joy!!! Such innocence! God Bless this musical and all who partcipated in it!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • I tried out for the part of Jesus in a local production of this once, but I got the part of the guy that sang this song. Four years later, I got the part of Jesus in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar. I still have yet to meet anyone who has played both Jesuses...Jesi?

  • Jesus was ultra hot in this movie...

  • EVERYONE! I NOW REALIZED WHY JESUS HAS AN AFRO! ITS BECAUSE WHEN LIGHT IT SHINED ON IT, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS A BRIGHT CIRCLE AROUND JESUS'S HEAD, WHICH HE CARRIES EVERYWHERE!!!

  • @Billy193 only in pictures. its a type of halo.

  • I'm so freaked out lol. I have to sing All Good Gifts for my high school. But it's really a beautiful song.

  • ALL GOOD THINGS 2:19

  • @2008atwt haha I Dont think so cuz I do too lol

  • It is 20 years ago today (Feb 23 1991) that Merrell passed on. We will always remember him for the joy he spread and his remakable talent.

  • um...yeah,we made this a rap in our production...which opens tonight! O.O

  • I think I have a crush on Victor Garber as Jesus...I hope that's not weird

  • everytime i hear this song,it makes me cry,the song gives an inspirational message...

  • @asthezch18 Me too. There's a line in the little bit of free form singing he does at the end. I couldn't tell if he did it in the movie the way it was originally done on the Broadway soundtrack, but the script/score says "I wanna thank You Lord. I wanna love." So many people miss that last line when they sing it, and I think that line means everything. God is love, and those who discover that love should want to share it with others.

  • 5:27 look at him....lolz

  • hehe as a kid just because of that moment at 5:05 i SO wanted to believe there was a thing between Merrell and the one in the pink dress ^-^

I cant believe he died so long ago =[

really sad but he was truly an amazing performer

  • @RoonskiLuv yeah! They would make a cute couple:-)

  • This song moves me every time I hear it!Wednesday night a young man and lady sang this at church...so beautiful.

  • This musical has made me feel more in touch with God than any Bible class at school.

  • this is my first time seeing this show and i am now 49. i loved the music for this play, my best friend , my soulmate, my love of my life, although he never knew, he married, and died at age 30 from aids.so i finally found this on utube and am watching it in rememberence of him. i love and miss you tom

  • "Do you know what the seed is?"

    "A baby!"

"Wrong!" haha, I love the way Jesus corrects them

  • Anthony before Sweeney Todd!

  • That is so sad about Merrell. From the moment he appeared he just lit up the screen.

  • @aberdown There is a reason WHY he lit up the screen like he did.

  • @aberdown

It is sad we all lost Merrell but I try to remember he brought more joy to the world than the vast majority of people who ever lived. So he accomplished far more than most of us could even imagine.

  • From the time I was little this has been my favourite song from the movie.

  • I'd hae to say my crushes in this movie are Jesus,Judas and Jeffery...the one with the flute.. ^^

  • @NightOwlEyes1 But Merrell is much more joyous and adorable. Plus, it is his song!

  • OMG I love "Jesus" He is awesome... and the guy who called them there in the first place is cool too... but he's...... well... I dunno.. somthings bothersome about him... :\

  • Merrell is so joyous in this video--I never saw anyone so full of joy! Beautiful voice--angelic!

  • "Hello?? Good soil??" "They hear the Word of God" um, are you sure about that? lol

  • this is my song in our production of godspell it is my favorite song

  • in our version, we do "Do you know what the seed is?" "A baby!" "We're gonna call you 'One-Step'. You're always one step behind."

  • I love this the parable !

  • Victor Garber (Jesus) also had a part on James Cameron's Titanic, many years after this was done.

  • yes, he was the ship's designer and went down with the boat, if I remember correctly.

  • Is it okay to have a crush on Jesus?

  • I do. :)

Just remember, it's Victor Garber. Very, very crush worthy, especially in character. But it sounds less weird this way. I love this musical so much.

  • @PeaceOut2U07 i totally agree.

  • @PeaceOut2U07 He went on to do some t.v. show I watch...seems like Law and Order or something. Google him. He doesn't look like this anymore. ;-)

  • @canfullofworms why would anyone be looking at him when Merrell is there!

  • @canfullofworms Victor Garber is all kinds of sexy!!

  • @canfullofworms I know, the only problem with

Victor Garber playing Jesus is that I keep thinking,

    "he's adorable!" D:

  • @MarianneDashwood13 Victor is but nowhere near as adorable as Merrell!

  • @xmcdonnell Agreed!

  • @canfullofworms Of course!!! He's already in love with you! :)

In the literal sense of course

  • @canfullofworms I sure hope not. I have a crush on Godspell Jesus and Superstar Jesus!

  • @canfullofworms

    hahahahaha

  • @canfullofworms it is very, very, very okay to have a crush on Jesus :) after all, while you might love someone on earth, that is only temporary. if you have a crush on Jesus (I know I do <3 ) thats a good thing because after all, hes the one we're going to spend all eternity with. right?

  • @canfullofworms Totally.

  • @canfullofworms I had a mad crush on Jesus after I saw this film....

  • All Good Gifts is one of my 3 favorite songs from this film. Merrell is great.

  • does this kind of sound like.. "here with me" by mercyme?

  • i think they sing offstage for some the scenes that doesnt show them directly

  • Thank you Lord! Thank you :)

  • "All good gifts" - wonderful song!

  • One of the greatest songs I've ever heard.

    Merrell does a great job!

  • WEED IS GOOD ;)

  • I really love the look of wonder on victors face when jeffery is playing then the look of joy he gets when hes finished. Like he really appreciated the small things in life :D

  • i love the "weeds" growling as Robin's singing beautifully... XD makes me laugh every time.

  • who cares - they protrayed His Word in a wonderful light :)

  • were any of these actors actually Christians or was this just another gig, i wander

  • Does it really matter? Or if the writers & musical arrangers or musicians were Christian?

    No - it doesn't.

Consider this: this musical conveys the Gospel in a very simple, fresh & childlike way - accessible to all. It cuts to the heart of what Jesus REALLY taught.

Perhaps God was using these ppl to get His message across - as the self important 'official church' has utterly failed to convey the message in the way He intended:

    By example...........!

  • jeez...i did not mean anything by it it was just a question

whether they were or not has nothing to do with how the movie is received. I was just curious, because who knows maybe one of them was saved after playing the part

  • I agree with teach1982, this should not be a forum for judging questions but rather for answering them--if you know the answer. As for me, I would like to know if there are any pics of Merrill in the 1990's. He is forever the young Godspell disciple in my mind. But he must have grown up and become a man. I want to love the whole of the man.

  • @michaelLairdB I have a picture of Merrell that is more recent-from his obit, if you or anyone wants it. He died early in 1991, so pic must be from 1990, or the 80s. Im so sad I never got to see him live and that his family and the world lost him so soon.

  • Merrel died of AIDS I think.

  • No, Jerry died of AIDS. Merrel's reason for death, wasn't revealed.

A few other cast members are dead, as I said before.

  • So far, we've lost Jeffrey, Lynne, David, and Merrell. Jerry and the rest are still with us, last I checked.

  • No. Jeffrey is alive. Jerry is dead.

Jeffrey is a current voice actor.

  • I think you have the two confused. Either that or both wikipedia and imdb have the wrong info on both of them. I suppose that's possible.

  • Jeffrey died in 1986. Jerry is alive, he was in a production (The Physics of Fathers) as recent as 2008.

  • Thank God!

  • It was Jefferey who died from aids..and what does that matter anyway...we love him for who he was..

  • i love the weeds in the seeds explanation

  • I so wanted to do that for my musical, but it got cut out.

  • I KNOW, RIGHT!!! I also love the part

"do you know what the seed is?"

    "a baby!"

    "wrong!" XDDDD

  • i'm singing All Good Gifts in my high school's production this spring. So beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this movie im so sad merrell jackson died he was amzing

  • This brothers voice is absolutely gorgeous. What a great gift...sigh.

  • I know Merrill Jackson has died. But I cannot find any information ANYWHERE that actually states how. Does ANYONE know?

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for the information. Do you know if it's cited anywhere? And why does it seem to be such a big secret that he died of a brain tumor? Even his official fan site doesn't mention anything about it.

  • David Haskell, the guy who plays John/Judas died of a brain tumor in 2003. And the info on Merrell's death I can't find.

  • Does anyone know how to play "All Good Gifts" on guitar, 'cuz im trying to learn it.

  • This is my favorite song in the whole film

  • Victor Garber is so beautiful!!!!!

  • Definitely one of my favorites from Godspell. (On the Willows, By My Side as well).. Anyway, how fitting is "All Good Gifts" at this time...

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  • This makes me all sentimental... I sang "All Good Gifts" in my High School production of Godspell in 1986. Such wonderful memories. This show and movie means so much to me, and seeing it again (and again!) is like feeling like a kid again. :)

  • does anyone have informaition on merrell I've been trying to find for a few years info on him. please let me know thanks

  • my favorite song from this movie, seen it on broadway nyc twice now :)

  • omg all good gifts is the hardest song to sing in Gospell, especially for the fact that the vocal range variers so much, but an AMAZIN song non the less!! wooop!!

  • do u know what the seed is?

    A BABY!

    WRONG!

  • Lol im in a godspell play at that big lowton hall im in the youth chours cos im only 11 and i think godspell is the best play were doing it is so much fun and so full of enegy that were tired out after rehersals(how ever you spell it).And we dint know how challgeing it was gonna be but its looking good (=

  • I saw Merrel in Chicago right around the time when Godspell was showing. I saw him at a restaurant, and he gave me his autograph, I was so touched by how sweet he was to me, a dorky 12 year old girl. I was so sad to hear he passed. He was a gentle soul.

  • this song just touches me I love it!

  • "All Good Gifts" is by far my favorite song in the musical. It really evokes intense emotion in me, and I have come to realize over the years that gratitude is a very powerful force in life.

  • Jerry's little impression of a plant growing was priceless! (0:28-36)

  • He made me ROTFL, long before anyone knew to call it ROTFL!

Actually, everyone's impressions of growing (and dying) plants are priceless!

  • "no fruit, Robin!"

  • Victor Garber and Merrel Jackson have the coolest fros EVER in this movie.

  • this song gives me chills<3 i loveeee it =]]

  • i get goosebumps everytime, too!

  • all good gifts...it's such a nice song to play on piano.

  • A really nice song. It is sad how many of the cast from this film(four by my count) have already passed away. :( A nice, uplifting movie.

  • I can't believe talent scouts and movie-makers didn't scoop up the entire cast after the movie came out, and make them big stars. They're all SO talented & charismatic. Bums me out that this movie seems to be the career highlight for most of them (except Garber), but at least you can watch Godspell over and over again, and maybe it's even more popular now than ever before....

  • Lynn Thigpen has been working pretty steady since then and she doesn't seem to age.

  • was she also noahs aunt on all my children also how did merrill die

  • Lynne Thigpen died about 4-5 years ago. I'm thinking it was either pneumonia and/or heart failure. Yeah, I remember her in other shows, including "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" - (My kids watched it when they were younger..)

  • I believe she actually died of a brain aneurism. Very sad.

  • I sang that song in my college production of Godspell. Check it out at RMU Colonial Theatre Godspell All Good Gifts.

  • Guess what? The guy who sings that song, Jermain Jackson, he's Michael Jackson's brother! This song is sooo inspiring!

  • His name is Merrell Jackson and he is no way related to the Jacksons. He passed away at the age of 38 in 1991.

  • what happened to him?

  • @hotwriter36

    >>He passed away at the age of 38 in 1991.<<

So young!! So sad, but maybe God has a larger plan we can't fathom.

  • i thought also that he wasfrom the jacson 5 its not true he sounds like jermane

  • one of the most inspiring songs ever

  • Look into "A Course In Miracles" if you want to actually know and live this state of consciousness.

    Love to all.

  • is learn your lessons well in the movie?

  • Last year my high school performed Godspell. It was my senior year musical and I played "Lamar" and sang All Good Gifts. This song will forever have a special place in my heart and I'm so glad this movies up on youtube, as i've never seen it.

Interestingly enough, John Michael Tebelak graduated from my high school, Berea High, and so this was our tribute to his genius. His sister, Trudy, was flown in from NYC to see the show and it was an all around amazing experience.

  • Merrell Jackson just seems to exude a gentle and good spirit, I'm sorry to hear he has passed on.

  • After having made it in the show, I realized that almost all of those instrumental interlude parts are playing songs from Godspell that didn't make it into the movie. It's a weird feeling, realizing that over and over.

  • I remember playing Lamar in HS 21 yrs ago. THANK YOU for bringing back such wonderful and happy memories to me once again :)

  • I'm trying to tech m self teh recorder solo in this, To bad I haven't played recorder in years XD

  • Aaaaahhhh All Good Gifts....I remember singing this back in 1990. Thank you for the post. God bless.

  • "you know what the seed was?" "A BABY!" "...no" LOLLOLLOL

  • LOL

  • Touching to watch this part again now learning that Merrel Jackson died 16 years ago. I haven't seen the movies in years. I have it on VHS but I'm too lazy to put it in the VCR! Thanks for posting!
