Would you recommend getting a 50mm f/1.8 (for portraits) & 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 (for wider landscapes/general photos) as my standard lenses for my camera to be?
@28acnaib Hi there, you will see that both lenses are great for someone starting out with DSLR photography. If you can, get your hands on both! Cheers, the Canon team.

@TuckzProductions Hi there, the "movie look" is down to the framerate that you use (e.g. 24fps). If you are considering going professional, it might be worth investing in L lenses. Check the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM out: canon.com.au/For-You/Camera-Lenses/EF24-70mm-f28L-II-USM Let us know how you go. Cheers, the Canon team.
Hi, i've recently purchased a Canon 50mm 1.8 prime lens and im very happy with it. Im thinking of purchasing a zoom lens. But I do not really have a high budget, do you prefer the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS or the Canon EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 III USM? I cant really decide on what to buy, please help. Thanks!
Im looking to get the CANON EF 70-200 F4 L IS ZOOM LENS but i was wondering why do other lenses CANON EF 75-300MM/4-5.6 USM II/III AF have more zoom capability but are WAY cheaper, would it be better to get the CANON EF 75-300MM/4-5.6 USM II/III AF instead?
@bumblebee561 an L lens( ones with the red ring around them) are usually the top of the line lenses with better glass and features, rather than a lower range lens that may not give as sharp results, another thing to keep in mind is the aperture, a lense with an aperture of f2.6 might cost more than a lens of the same zoom length with an aperture of f4, this information may not be 100% accurate, but its just from what ive noticed with past experience :)
question... u recomended the 17-80 for everyday.. and the 17-40 for landspace.. wont they both work for landscape.. and the 17-80 would even give u a wider range or oppruitinites since it can do landscape and zoom in
@alaa13666 EF-s and EF lenses...you can only use the 17-85 for EF-S mount cameras..the xxD and xxxD cameras...and 17-40 can be used on all cameras...both cropped and uncropped sensors.
I have the 15-85mm for my 550D and find it has really enhanced my usage of this camera. It is now my everyday lens and has replaced the kit 18-55mm altogether. Maybe if it had been released at the time this video came out it may have featured?
I really want the 70-200 f4L (non IS) to replace the 55-250. However the 100mm macro (non l) looks very good as well. I am only 15 so I don't have a huge budget. Which lens do I get.
@Nanoj1412 It is up to you. Weigh up your options first and understand what focal length you would want to operate on primarily and go from there. Cheers, the Canon team.
@Nanoj1412 the 70-200mm f4 is such a nice piece of glass it's so light and if your looking for something to get you started in portraiture or sports it's something you won't be dissapointed in. it's not the fastest aperture but the autofocus is fast and accurate. super nice contrast smooth bokeh. all in all its a great day time lens.

@PISTACHO305 Hey there, thanks for your question. Do check our website out for more details: canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/Camera-Lenses/EF-S55-250mm-f45-6-IS-II-Lens Cheers, the Canon team.
@nishi7cool It depends on what you are after. Experiment with a few lenses, borrow a friend's and go play with some lenses in-store. It also depends on your shooting style. Cheers, the Canon team.
@nishi7cool Something with a wide aperture such as a 24mm f/1.4, a 50 f/1.4 OR 1.8, usually primes are perfect, but if you like zoom, I'd go with a 16-35mm f/2.8 or a 24-70mm f/2.8 :)
@cliooz55 Of course you have some non L versions :) the 50mm are very good and are possibly your cheapest option (either the 1.8 or 1.4). If you can't manage to get a 24mm f/1.4, you can opt for a 24mm f/2.8.. And you always have the option of third party lenses
F-stop/aperture is just as important as focal length. Get a fast lens (lower f-stop) to get much better portraits (DOF), better low light performance, or faster shutter speed for action.
@fritspas Thanks for this. Please visit our website at canon.com.au/en-AU/For-You/Camera-Lenses and take a look. Feel free to ask us any questions you might have. Many thanks, the Canon team.
You'd probably want the 18-200mm lens and stop your aperture down to f/5.6. That way, you can have wide angle shots (18mm) and quickly zoom in to 200mm when you need it without having to make a cut to switch your lens or anything. But then you can't shoot in low light really, with f/5.6. The only reason you want to stop it down to 5.6 is so when you zoom in, it doesn't change your aperture from f/3.5 to f/5.6 and make the video darker as you zoom in. A constant aperture is what you want.
However, a lot of people also like the 24-105mm f/2.8, because it does a fairly reasonable wide-angle (24mm) and a reasonable telephoto (105), but the key that makes it good for filming is its fixed aperture of f/2.8, making it perfect for filming indoors or outdoors. Also, the video won't get darker as you zoom in anyway, because the aperture remains the same throughout the zoom range, unlike most amateur lenses whose apertures become smaller as you zoom in. Good luck!
@Jonnyriffic The Sigma 50mm F1.4 is getting a ton of praise. I can't suggest any other lens since I haven't looked into it. anything from 50-100mm is good for portraits. 85mm, I believe, is considered the standard portrait.
Hi i just started photography yesterday and my camera i got was the eos 10d. the lens i have for it now is a 22-55mm i think. i brought it to take pictures of bmx action sport and i was just wondering what kind of lens would be a good lens for action and to really get close up from some distance.
@Klshnikov Depending on your EOS body, it would be good for wide-angle shots (e.g. landscape) to portrait shots. Let your creativity guide you. Cheers, the Canon team.
@MegaMugiwaraboy I had the 55-250 and I found it brilliant for telephoto but for everyday at 55mm it was to much, Id go for the 18-200mm . Just my opinion :)
@blank10123 hmmm, ok, tnx for the opinion, but does the 55-250mm lens has a great focusing lens? i'm a bit into focusing than other stuff in DSLR.. :)
@MegaMugiwaraboy If your thinking about a great focusing lens I would look at a Lens with HSM (hypersonic motor) this is much quiter and faster accurate focusing. It also allows you to ajust focus even in automatic without having to disingage auto focus. The 55-250mm was alright but focusing was iffy in low light.

@shiweesh2 i do believe that gap in between what is semi professional and expert is little these days. d7000 is all we all need. go to... freedslr . com remove spaces and try to get a chance to bring home completely new Nikon D7000
@ImaNerdThatWay That's a lot more faster and Sharper...it's just a shorter focal length. you can get a better aperture as well...it's better for low light [the 24-70mm, that is]
@Fakeblad Tilt-shift lenses enable you to focus on different parts of your subject. It is also often used to control perspective in architecture & landscape photographs.
@MsJas666 the 18-55mm is one of Canon's most basic lenses and thats why it's the kit lens, it's good for just starting off with a DSLR, but it's not the best, and when you've been using it for a while you might want to upgrade to somthing like the 55-250 which is basically the same just with a bigger zoom. Or mabye somthing like the 1.8 lens with shallow depth of field and if you have a lot of money to spare get one of Canon's L luxury lenses but they can be up to $1800 =S=hope that helped =)
@Deekaytm 18-200 is less sharp than the kit lens but is a good walk arrownd lens, take into account that the optimal resolution for that lens is 6mpx maybe 8 but at 12 you see that the lens is less sharp than the sensor!. (like taking a picture with a 24 mpx sensor trough a cheap window ... ) I rather have the kit lens plus the 55-250 ... or if you have a 12mpx + camera I would star saving for L lenses.
jrhineberger: First of all not to be a dick but get rid of the Pentax they suck. Canon or Nikon is the way to go. They have a lot more lens to choose from. There's a reason there on top. Plus, do u ever see a pro walking around with a Pentax? NO. But, I would recommend a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm lens something with a wide aperture (f/1.4, f/2, f/4). I don't know does Pentax even make lens like that? Probably not.
@knownameful Pentax does make 31mm, 43mm, 55mm, 77mm lenses with wide aperture (f/1.8, f/1.9, f/1.4 , f/1.8). I don't know does Canon/Nikon even make lenses like that? Probably not.
The reason Canon and Nikon are 'on top' is because uninformed customers like yourself buy their products blindly.
@jrhineberger at what size of sensor? full frame or bigger like the new leicas .... also how perfect must be the lens for a 40mpx snesor? do you have some mtf charts?
One there's one thing wrong in this video. That 100mm macro lens IS NOT a EF-S lens it's a EF lens. I thought if your doing a informative might want to be accurate. That sounds like a ass hat thing to say, but it is was it is.
i am a beginner photographer i am only 13 and i have a pentax k-x for my first dslr i have a tight bugget and i need a good portrait lens any recomendations
@jrhineberger it all depends on your budget. generally speaking any lens above 50mm should do the trick. some of the current lenses that are excelent at this are the FA 50mm f/1.4, DA* 55mm, DA 70mm Limited, FA 77mm Limited, DA* 50-135mm. if you're on a tight budget and you don't mind manual control you can buy a used old K mount lens, can be even 30-40 years old, that will cost you very little cash and can deliver great results.
Sir as a professional photographer which type of lens do you suggest for bikini photo shoot a wide angle? Or a long zoom...please reply thank you Eric.
@BlkDarkness Yes you can use photoshop for it but the lens will do a much better job and wont affect wont affect resolution and image quality like if you keep re-saving in photoshop.

I understand a 50mm lens has a standard field of vision when mounted on a full frame camera, but canon only has 2 full frame cameras in their range, both being a little pricey for the average hobby photographer like myself. Which prime lens would you recommend to someone with a 500D looking for the 50mm equivalent?
I'm about to buy the Canon 600D..

whats the best lens for filming?
ilovethesimpsons8 6 months ago
You'd probably want the 18-200mm lens and stop your aperture down to f/5.6. That way, you can have wide angle shots (18mm) and quickly zoom in to 200mm when you need it without having to make a cut to switch your lens or anything. But then you can't shoot in low light really, with f/5.6. The only reason you want to stop it down to 5.6 is so when you zoom in, it doesn't change your aperture from f/3.5 to f/5.6 and make the video darker as you zoom in. A constant aperture is what you want.
123IOWNALL321 6 months ago
However, a lot of people also like the 24-105mm f/2.8, because it does a fairly reasonable wide-angle (24mm) and a reasonable telephoto (105), but the key that makes it good for filming is its fixed aperture of f/2.8, making it perfect for filming indoors or outdoors. Also, the video won't get darker as you zoom in anyway, because the aperture remains the same throughout the zoom range, unlike most amateur lenses whose apertures become smaller as you zoom in. Good luck!

I like using standard zoom as they give me range of options and not changing, the 18-200mm is a great option for me.

@shiweesh2 i do believe that gap in between what is semi professional and expert is little these days. d7000 is all we all need. go to... freedslr . com remove spaces and try to get a chance to bring home completely new Nikon D7000

what about the 24-70mm instead of the 24-105mm? i've read that it's faster and sharper.
ImaNerdThatWay 11 months ago
@ImaNerdThatWay That's a lot more faster and Sharper...it's just a shorter focal length. you can get a better aperture as well...it's better for low light [the 24-70mm, that is]
xxgwyloxx 11 months ago
@ImaNerdThatWay The 24-70 is 2.8 all throughout the zoom rage (fast) and the 24-105 is a 4. its slightly slower but they're both fantastic lenses.

I'm a bit confused about the Tilt shift. What does that do?
Fakeblad 1 year ago
@Fakeblad It makes everything look like toys.
sofarsogood9 1 year ago
@sofarsogood9 lol.... what do you mean?
Fakeblad 1 year ago
@Fakeblad Tilt shift lenses are not only lenses to make things look like toys.
They are lenses to take control over perspective.
Just insert "what is tilt shift" in the youtube search bar and pic the first video (it should be by digitalrevTV)
sonusTV 1 year ago
@Fakeblad Tilt-shift lenses enable you to focus on different parts of your subject. It is also often used to control perspective in architecture & landscape photographs.

i have the 18-55mm where does that go?
im doing video and have NO idea about lenses but i really like the tilt shift but cant i do that with some effect on sony begas pro 9?
someone please respond
MsJas666 1 year ago
@MsJas666 the 18-55mm is one of Canon's most basic lenses and thats why it's the kit lens, it's good for just starting off with a DSLR, but it's not the best, and when you've been using it for a while you might want to upgrade to somthing like the 55-250 which is basically the same just with a bigger zoom. Or mabye somthing like the 1.8 lens with shallow depth of field and if you have a lot of money to spare get one of Canon's L luxury lenses but they can be up to $1800 =S=hope that helped =)
IIproductionsII 1 year ago
Hello first of all thank for the video.
15-135mm lens for Canon 500d is it good enough and comes in which category?
Chodup 1 year ago
is 18-55mm enough or am i better off upgrading to 18-200mm?
Deekaytm 1 year ago
@Deekaytm 18-200 is less sharp than the kit lens but is a good walk arrownd lens, take into account that the optimal resolution for that lens is 6mpx maybe 8 but at 12 you see that the lens is less sharp than the sensor!. (like taking a picture with a 24 mpx sensor trough a cheap window ... ) I rather have the kit lens plus the 55-250 ... or if you have a 12mpx + camera I would star saving for L lenses.
elave16 1 year ago
24-70mm is also a good everyday lens :)

18-200mm lens is this a good all around lens?
brixx38 1 year ago
jrhineberger: First of all not to be a dick but get rid of the Pentax they suck. Probably not.
knownameful 1 year ago
@knownameful actually pentax is the one who gives more power to the buck. They still make lenses and some are actually quite good even for a pro
nunorodriguesdotnet 1 year ago

@knownameful Pentax does make 31mm, 43mm, 55mm, 77mm lenses with wide aperture (f/1.8, f/1.9, f/1.4 , f/1.8). I don't know does Canon/Nikon even make lenses like that? Probably not.
The reason Canon and Nikon are 'on top' is because uninformed customers like yourself buy their products blindly.

@knownameful
pentax makes great cameras and pros do use pentax the 645d is better than the nikon d3x and the canon mark ds mark iii combined with 40mp
jrhineberger 1 year ago
@jrhineberger at what size of sensor? full frame or bigger like the new leicas .... also how perfect must be the lens for a 40mpx snesor? do you have some mtf charts?

One there's one thing wrong in this video. That 100mm macro lens IS NOT a EF-S lens it's a EF lens. I thought if your doing a informative might want to be accurate. That sounds like a ass hat thing to say, but it is was it is.

i am a beginner photographer i am only 13 and i have a pentax k-x for my first dslr i have a tight bugget and i need a good portrait lens any recomendations
jrhineberger 1 year ago
@jrhineberger it all depends on your budget. generally speaking any lens above 50mm should do the trick. some of the current lenses that are excelent at this are the FA 50mm f/1.4, DA* 55mm, DA 70mm Limited, FA 77mm Limited, DA* 50-135mm. if you're on a tight budget and you don't mind manual control you can buy a used old K mount lens, can be even 30-40 years old, that will cost you very little cash and can deliver great results.

i have no idea why the 55-20mm would be an action lens. the af speed is so slow in real life and thats why i got the 70-200mm f/2.8l is usm

@BlkDarkness Yes you can use photoshop for it but the lens will do a much better job and wont affect wont affect resolution and image quality like if you keep re-saving in photoshop.

1st off I'd like to point out that you don't need the tilt-shift lens because you can use Photoshop for that. Fish eye lens looks nice.

Hello Canon, how are you doing today?
I understand a 50mm lens has a standard field of vision when mounted on a full frame camera, but canon only has 2 full frame cameras in their range, both being a little pricey for the average hobby photographer like myself. Which prime lens would you recommend to someone with a 500D looking for the 50mm equivalent?
johnnyonline 2 years ago
50 / 1.6 = 31.25
35 mm lens should do the job
xpcoolz 2 years ago
I have the 450d body.
i had the same question, from my research i found that the best recommended prime lens is the 50mm f/1.4 .
I know its equivalent to 80mm, but listen to me, get it and step back further !! ;D
