I absolutely adore, not only the idea of the "lone film maker" but also the set-up that the two of you create. It's almost like, yeah well some documentary on "how-to" or "the troubles" with making a "no crew" film project.
I wish you luck(the both of you that is)in surviving the hazardous mountains and steep hills of Switzerland.
By the way - I could only adore the "how-to climb a hill"-shot...Marvellous!
Keep on going, and while were at it, you guys show some great enthusiasm!
I personally am a very Anti Sony electronics. I hope the camera works out for you, I find that sony sells expensive products that have a very short life span.
Are you planning to start touring with the film to various film festivals/shows to try to get a studio to buy it or going to shop it around privately first?
Even if it doesn't get to theaters I'll be buying the dvd when you're done with it :).
BTW you're starting to look like Everett McGill from The Quest for fire(Very good under-rated movie), though a bit more facial hair hehe.
Nope. If you look you'll see all manner of comments on my videos. I've only deleted spam messages for strip websites, 1 particularly racist comment aimed at someone else and about 3 comments over the last few months that used unusually inappropriate language such as the c word. -- I have found that not all the comments that I post actually post and sometimes i get caught out by the spam filter - so maybe it never posted?
hmmmm dark cave, great excuse for using infrared light ,,,lol sorry Rob only joking, poor poor little girl dieing on the hill..no shes still alive ,but with you Rob for hoe long....who the one doing the survival here .?lol
I know that the USC is supposed to be one of the best - in LA - and UCLA is a top one too. Sadly they are the only two I know of... Anyone else here got any suggestions?
Vancouver Film school seems like it might be nice. They have their own Youtube channel that they put up all of their student films and other things they make at the school.
There's also New York Film school.
I'm saving up money to go to film school as well, hopefully someday soon I'll get enough.
Thankyou! ..as much as possible, there have been some delays here and there (as I only have 24hrs each day - damn it!) which has meant some things are late - like this blog was only a couple of days after the last one - but came out a week later - but it's in the right order anyway! :-) Thanks.
...i had considered saying nothing... living by the old saying "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". i've decided that is a terrible saying. it is for the weak, dishonest, and delusional. i think you deserve the truth, and thats that im losing faith in your production. based on your giant script error im doubting that you've thought this project out enough. hopefully you can prove me wrong.
I have given it a hullova lot of thought - what is the error? Or is it the not writing the final part? I have it completely mapped out and broken down scene by scene - just not 'scripted' - so the fact I haven't 'written' it shouldn't impact on the first section of the film. Or is it something else?
If you get lost in the woods, just remember NOT to touch de stick figures hanging from the trees, NOT to touch the stones piled around your tent, and NOT to go into abandoned houses in the middle of the night.
Sorry, have to agree with HugoBarrens. Should have mentioned it earlier, definitly my role model to. I think what you're doing helps alot of filmmakers actually, if they have a down patch or think that there projects impossible. They think of;
Thankyou! Something my dad told me that I never forgot.... EVERYONE only has 24 hours in a day. From Steve Jobs and Richard Branson to a traffic wardern to a... you get the point! :-) It's something to think about!
Yes Europe definitely. But like I've said - I don't know how and in what form - but you'll be able to see it - everyone here on youtube will most likely live in a country that at worst I can send a DVD to! But I'll let you know at the time - when I do!! :-)
Hey, if thing's like Pirates of Ghost Island can get into Cinemas (Google it) then this is gonna become the next world famous film. We're still all behind you mate.
Thanks! Though I suspect you may change your mind on that if you were there! You'd need professional climbing gear and ropes to get down there - definitely to get back up - it was a very confined space so hard to show properly - but you were a good 10m above any solid surface and they were smooth wet and precarious! But then your name is somestunt - so maybe you would have done! :-D All the best!
Great job bro, I have been watching the blogs since you first started, An I have to say everytime I see a new one I just can't wait for the next to come out. Keep up the awesome work, once again great job.
This deserves to be a film as far as I'm concerned, I think what your doing is fantastic, Your determination is inspiring, Gabi is lovely and kind to go along with all this and help you. Keep up what your doing, this is the sort of thing YouTube should be used for!
Arrghh I'm getting obsessed with these blogs!! I love seeing how much progress you've made, can't beleive you made it this far though. Good luck man, you can do it!
I don't know yet - will have to see how it goes - I hope that I can get it in the theatres but if not then DVD. I'll make sure everyone here knows though, when the time comes. Thanks!
Wow! Great Job, guys! The two of you are a great team! I hope you're movie turns out GREAT! Good Luck and bring me back something nice from Switzerland :)
Thanks! You're right - we do make a good team! Though when Gabi falls because her legs cant carry her any further - instead of helping her I get out the camera and take the mick!!! It's what boyfriends are for right? :-p

Thankyou! I'm glad you're liking them. I hope the film is as good too - it's scary for me now - as I have all this interest and am a long way from seeing the fruits of all this work!! But so far so good! :-)
by the way i checked your website and i tried doing a little search for it in google. i think you need to fix the tags and keywords for the website so it will get more traffic. I do SEO for a living, but you can just get Gabbie to do it with like the free version of Web CEO or some other software. it really isn't spam, it's a tip: you need it or your website is going to go unnoticed.
i agree with pitman. But another option is to film everything else in the movie. THen travel to another place in were there is a good cave and film that bit there.
IF you want to go with the cave idea could you build an area in your house to film the internal shots in (obvious benefits) and then organise a fake entrance on the hillside (photoshop or composite?)for the outside stuff?

Ok man when will you ever make the vid you know ... the one i have been messaging you and we were talking about.. please reply youve liek forgotten about me and i was one of the first 500 subs not 5000
I'm sorry I've upset you. As I said in my email - I am really very busy at the moment - with making a feature film on my own and putting together these blogs - I just dont have very many hours in the day at all - and I'm not getting enough sleep! I just simply don't have time to make a film for you - it's nothing personal. Apologies.
Slowly but surely! Have just started filming the interior scenes of the shack. And I filmed some amazing stuff very high up - but you have to wait for that blog (as I couldn't edit it in time so it'll be for when I take a week off (which I will need at some point in the future!) But it is so much slower than I am used to - but then again, I've never done this before! :-)
:):):) outcome on that... can we say BUMMER! don't blame you on the bridge thing... vertigo and I are close friends! You too are a great couple! Hi Gabi!
your starting to look a little bit like russel brand! i meant that in the non gayest way.................digging a hole here......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
People have, in the past, taken photos of me infront of his poster... now imagine me with a spade filling the hole back in once you've gotten inside!! :-D only joshin! :-)
In case you didn't just see my expression... I just gave you a 'look'. And then another 'look' to indicate that the first 'look' was only a joking look. :-)
You gotta think there are pros and cons for that place being unsuitable.. If it had been suitable it would of been a nightmare to carry all that stuff up and down the hill!!!
I don't know yet - will have to see how it goes - I hope that I can get it in the theatres but if not then DVD. I'll make sure everyone here knows though, when the time comes. Thanks!
One thing ive noticed is there's a fair few days in between every video you post, and you don't mention what you've been doing in that time. It seems as though your making the movie really slowly!!
Im sure your not just kicking back with some coffee in your chalet though, lol.
making movies takes a LONG time. especially when you're just one man. setting up the lighting, the camera, rehearsing on location, shooting several takes...
plus, if he showed us everything, we'd be watching the film ahead of time.
Do you realize how long it takes to make a film? A feature length film takes, with a full crew, 2-3 months to film, not including pre- or post-production. So it looks like he's going at a great pace for a one man show.
And for one more example, I recently had a film shoot for one of my classes, and with five people, it tooks us 10 hours to film a 5 minute movie. Imagine what he does in a day...
This is a good point - The delay is not in the filming but in the editing. I was not lying when I said I was doing this with no backing, it is sometimes too much for me to edit after such a long days work - and so a blog can get delayed. These last few blogs have been too slow for my liking - and this blog was actually filmed 2 days after the previous one. I am however working hard to clear the backlog! And some of the 'missing footage' will be shown when I take a break!! :-)
to tell you the truth when i saw ur first video i didn't think the movie was going to be very good... at most desent...
but now... after seeing all what u have been through.. and to what extent your thinking about this thing... i can't wait for the finished product... and i think it'll be fabulous!
Too bad. Cave would have been very dramatic, no mater what the story calls for. Perhaps there is another cave or rock formation that might look like a cave through suggestive filming nearby? Good luck to you! Keep the great updates coming!
delay recently is an editing bottleneck. As I'm doing all this on my own with no backing - it's a tough call to come home really late to then sit down to edit. The delay is in the editing, not in the filming. I'll be catching up soon though! Best
I don't know yet - will have to see how it goes - I hope that I can get it in the theatres but if not then DVD. I'll make sure everyone here knows though, when the time comes. Thanks!
I went back and started watching all these again... now that I think about it, I cant remember if you showed us the real place where your going to film or not? lol :P

So, you say you've got another location in mind - or found? Great, Likely end up being even better than the cave.

Keep going mate.

@video:
good job - i love the little challenges that are encountered and the ways to overcome them. one of the beauties of film making.
good luck with it all.

Sometimes productions take on a life of their own . .
Keep steering in the direction you vision . .
It's always about location, location, location.
Sigh . . .

I love how you're afraid of heights and just look down and keep going on =D
I hope you'll figure the location out so that it fits in nicely, cause a wooden shack is indeed not such a good idea.

to tell you the truth when i saw ur first video i didn't think the movie was going to be very good... at most desent...
but now... after seeing all what u have been through.. and to what extent your thinking about this thing... i can't wait for the finished product... and i think it'll be fabulous!

Too bad. Cave would have been very dramatic, no mater what the story calls for. Perhaps there is another cave or rock formation that might look like a cave through suggestive filming nearby? Good luck to you! Keep the great updates coming!
redhotchilibean 3 years ago
really cool. but you didn't film! and you didn't get what you wanted?! and why is there such a big delay inbetween videos? keep it up
darkfox404 3 years ago
delay recently is an editing bottleneck. As I'm doing all this on my own with no backing - it's a tough call to come home really late to then sit down to edit. The delay is in the editing, not in the filming. I'll be catching up soon though! Best
