Sidney, when I was 13 years old this song rocked me out!! and has influenced many of my own song writing ideas. Simply put there has never been anything that sounds like love and desire. I especially dig the r&B fusion with the pure excitement of disco. I hope you find a way to make money off of this maybe on itunes or something?? Did you make anything off of Panic and french kiss???
I'm saddened but not at all surprised to read that veteran Soul man Sidney Barnes didn't receive a penny in royalties from this record. Simon Soussan is a well know conman and bootlegger from way back, and has apparently ripped off everyone he's ever had dealings with.
He's even ripped off part of the melody from the Flirtations' Northern Soul hit "Stronger Than Her Love".
Yes, lead Vocals on Love and Desire as well as Panic by French Kiss as well as the majority of Simon Soussan's productions were sung by Monalisa Young.
beautiful voice sid!!! ""love and desire"" was one of the top disco songs of the era. to this day when i go to dances that have 70's or disco nite. when they play love and desire by ARPEGGIO.the crowd go nuts. no empty seats everybody is on the dance floor.
Love this track that was one of my DISCO UPSTARTS, Mr.Barnes I know the record business is cruel and you should have gotten paid 'cause you could not turn on your radio when this was out and not hear it.STILL SMASHING 32 yrs, L8er!!!
Sidney this is a great track but it sounds like Dennis and Denise Lapage bit your style to become the group Lime. They keyboards down to the mixdown down to the female vocal. They made some cash of this track so go and get your money.
Hey I'm not mad, money is cool but I get my satisfaction from knowing so many people enjoy what I do. I'm blessed and not hurting for anything, at least I can sleep good at night, and I hope those that cheated me out of all my royalties through the years sleep good as well. But I'll bet they don't. Cheers to all the music lovers throughout the world.
Dear Sidney, in first place to congratulate you for such a nice tune, , my name is Engel Ortega, songwriter, producer and now directing the musical author´s society in Nicaragua. I can´t believe you didn´t got any profit out of such a successful song, you must take the word of somebody offering legal services to you, you should be able to claim royalties for sale and copyright, good luck to you, and thank you for making us dance and sing !
This is me Sidney Barnes, I'm actually the male voice on this recording, I also wrote it with my buddy Joe Cash. That's Mona Lisa Young singing with me. I never made a dime off this record and it was a Disco smash. Well, that's show business.
@SidBarnes1941 Thats a shame....and if I can do something to help you get recognition for this, let me know. I am an attorney, my old lady loves this too, and we have time on our hands :)
@SidBarnes1941 WOW !! This is one of my ALL time favorite Disco songs . Your vocal is hot on this track . Can't belive you did not make any money off this record NOT RIGHT ! Hit me bacl when you can my man , you helped me wan tto be a vocalist I used to sing along with this record in the car back in 78 !! I was a Kid then and no I won't tell my age now LOL!!
@SidBarnes1941 I bow to you. Maybe my favorite disco tune ever. I was a dancer back then (messed up my knee auditioning for "Breakin'" in the early '80s. Someone nicknamed me Danny Terio's younger brother-hated that. Also hated when the dance teahcer Luigi, who taught Travolta, said I reminded him of JT. I was way better than both.).
Anyway, just an amazing dance tune. I probably owe you a lot of money for all your trouble. Tore up my Capezio's and my Crayons to this. Peace and MUCH love.
@SidBarnes1941 This is one of my favorite disco songs from that era and it is sad how they took advantage of a lot of talented musicians back in those days. Those who pepped hits like this and never saw a dime of it specially now that a lot of this music is sooooo used in commercials and in movies. This was a very special time in music and I love every track that came out of the disco era no matter how cheesy it was but this is a GREAT JAM....always put me in the mood to dance =)
@SidBarnes1941 I was only 11 at that time, but I knew something was wrong...it didnt get enough airplay! It was one of those songs that only come around once in a great while and should heard for longer than the few months I heard it on the radio (Hey, but Dad bought the album.). I am sorry you did not get the recognition you deserved. It makes me feel slavery was so alive in the 70s...especially in the music industry. And I knew it... back then.
@SidBarnes1941 That is crazy, you have writing credits on the song, it is amazing you didn't receive at least some money from that O_O did you publish the rights trough the producer? that would explain it.
i am so very sorry you got cheated as so many of the best artists did - but you should know this song was my everything at the time. i still have a special place for it, your voice and those days forever in my heart, Mr. Barnes. thx for posting so i had the chance to tell you this.
@SidBarnes1941 Q-Tip from ATCQ said it best: "Industry Rule #4080, record companies are shady" This joint is on fire! Sue their asses and get your royalties!
@SidBarnes1941 it is a great vocal performance. its too bad you guys didnt get paid. acutally I think your sound was usurped by a group called LIME that came out after you but used this same sound , but had more hits, race could have played a factor in that success. but either way this is still a great dance track
Disco Ball 9 @ Trump Taj mahal casino resort atlantic city nj usa on saturday october 16, 2010. the biggest 70s classic disco concert in the world featuring 13 artists.
now i finallllly found it. making an mp3 as we listen. i never thought i'd get a copy of this. but it just proves, you can find ANYthing on the internet. you just have to know where to look. anyway, back to the tune, didn't this come out in like 78?
Thank you for posting this video! This totally changes my way of Arpeggio to see how the dancers hustle with this music. Without the video i thought this is just another silly eurodiscosong
boy I remember this song at Hollywood Paliduim in the 70's, when Chic Chic was there to perform & Casey and the sunshine band, & other artist. I got to sit & talk with a few, alot of good energy. The tequila sun rise drinks were going around it was fun. Then everyone would go to the Pantry downtown L.A. for breakfast. Thank you for posting.
