I saw this on Broadway in October of 1988, I think, or 89. It blew me away. Technically, I don't think there's ever been a show to compare. Oh! I also got to work with the cutie-patootie who played Greaseball in the German tour. He came to work (we were doing My Fair Lady) on his skates one afternoon, and did his number for everyone backstage. :-)

The person says "I didn't like that", then the other person would say "I'm sorry, I didn't know", that's how you would know if someone is just having harmless fun. There are some cute character moments in this scene, such as Flat-Top's reaction during "Dinah Splat" and Belle laughing while Electra and Poppa are speaking. Also, you'll see the Rocky wearing green high-fiving the components at 3:40-3:41(and Wrench high-fiving Purse afterwards). Of course, Electra acting offended at the beginning of the song is pretty funny to watch, but he gets into it. ^_^

I think this is the most amazing musicial ever put on stage. Tough band parts, impossable mechs, a cast that need to be great singers, dancers and can skate with those costumes, difficult sound and lighting. It was a credit to everyone involved. Nobody has seen anything this difficult since.

I have been currently praying that Andrew Lloyd Webber will bring Starlight Express back for a new production. I think the show needs to be seen by more theatregoers of different generations. Same goes with Cats as well, I just don't think it's a good idea to limit the andrew lloyd webber shows down to just Phantom and his revival of The Wizard Of Oz.
