When I saw the trailer I was excited as anyone and more, for I love science fiction and this movie seemed promising. At the beggining it was impressive, my expectatives were high despite some minor plot holes as expected, untill the guy gets lost in the woods and finds the beautiful dysney-esque cute forest princess, from that moment on the movie was just an amalgam of cliches and unimaginative characters and situations. Screw the graphics, the movie was terrible.
It looked nice but that was it. It was a remake of Dance with Wolves, which had beautfiul scenery in itself. It does not deservethe praise it gets. All I can say is when James Camerons X-wife got the best picture award and he didn't I laughed my ass off. 4/10

It was IMO too long and could have been shown in about half the time. I did feel let down because I wanted to like it and I am a huge Sci-Fi and fantasy fan but the story is what needed work. Imagine if the story was as good as the visuals. Cameron could have made the greatest movie ever but instead we are left with this.

Cameron wrote the script after Titanic, and it didn't took very long after all. James Cameron said that the script wasn't supposed to be the most important and the strongest part in this movie, but the message was and the visual side of course.

Avatar was horrible. James Cameron did not invent the motion capture they used. Pretty sure lord of the rings did that with gollum. First 3d camera movie, big deal. Jackass can use one.... It's not that ppl who don't like avatar are haters, it's that we like good film that doesn't try to take credit for things they don't deserve. Would you really think the Na'vi were real if you say a segment of the movie. The allegory (metaphors) of the story were so simplistic it was nauseating. How the FUCK could it take THAT long to write the script for this movie?! For fucks sake. At least half the people on this planet could manage to put together a more interesting storyline. All Avatar has is pwetty animations and nice scenery. Even actors are kinda nice. It doesn't have a story. It's as pointless as taking a piss. Actually more pointless as taking a piss actually contributes somehow. And now he's making a trilogy? Wtf? >.>

@whohie lol we can spend a long time debating on how to judge/dissect a storyline or a movie , to me, box office is the final judge since audience is the target and who pays for the art. and it took that long to make a script for the MOST GROSSED MOVIE OF ALL TIME. that to me says something. ;D

Cameron wrote the script after Titanic, and it didn't took very long after all. James Cameron said that the script wasn't supposed to be the most important and the strongest part in this movie, but the message was and the visual side of course.
And if some 'not-so-famous' filmmaker guy would made this movie, you wouldn't even complain, but because this is Cameron's movie, you complain. Maybe it's because you've get used that his previous movies have more original script than Avatar's.
