  • Donuts, in this horror game?

  • the ballroom music reminds me of something....

  • Danse macabre. I love that piece

  • The Ballroom scene was one of the magic moments in my early carree as a gamer. Still love it :)

  • PUTAIN Mais c'est ça la scène que j'ai cherché toute ma vie, je m'en souvenais de quand mon frère y jouait quand j'étais petite, et impossible de retrouver le nom du jeu, WOOHOOO

  • 1:00 was the song they used in 102 Dalmations: Puppies to the rescue

and it was the carnival level 8C

  • I remember the ballroom scene. I had to replay it again and again - it was difficult to avoid the dancers.

  • I loved the AITD trilogy. This ballroom and the dancing ghosts used to creep the fuck out of me, especially if you anger them.

  • Casually running away from satan!

  • Somebody know what are the other musics we can put on the gramophone? I think there was a waltz

  • Mmmmm always love a good danse macabre.

  • the ballroom is really kinda scary when you touch one of the mannequin's and it becomes a tower spiral thing of doom

  • Danse Macabre!

One of my favorite music pieces!

  • Carnby looks like a right fag in this!

  • I prefer Chopin music. ;)

  • man... you make it look easy..

i could never get past the ballroom

  • I liked Dance of the Dead a lot - it's a nice tune.

  • I remember my uncle let the female character fall down the bridge a number of times in a row just to listen her scream

  • Gee, I wonder why...

    LOL!!

  • y would u say the ballroom is the hardest part of the game?

It looked fairly easy to me

    but then again

I'm not playing it so just asking to the point

  • That's because the pattern for the dancing ghosts is random (they can suddenly change direction when you expect the least). The camera angles don't help.

I think it took me at least 7 tries to get it right.

  • do they kill you with one shot?

or take a lot of health out of you?

    or something else?

  • There's no need to evade the ghosts after all.

i remember what i did to pass this scene was the following:

play the music, put the ghosts to dance, then leave the room. you will hear the thunder noise and they will dissapear, return to the ballroom and the key will be there for you to get.

    try it =)

  • Those disk are similar to CD roms...

  • Well of course they are! ^_~

  • the ballroom music is sweet :D

  • I agree! ^_^ BTW, if you like to know what the music is. It's a REALLY old classical song called "Dance Macabre" or "Dance of Death" composed by a French composer, Camille Saint-Saëns.

  • Yeah, in a 1992 game it sounds funny ^-^ It's a pretty song.

  • Yep! You'll also hear that this music score from the movie, "Tales from The Hood", sounds kinda similar to Dance Macabre. Especially the violins playing. ^_~

  • I remember years ago, when my friend played this game, he ran into those ghosts just for fun (before they turned into a bunch of spinning circles and killed the character)

  • Do you know if those spinning circles continue to follow you no matter where you go to? Ex: I hit a ghost in the ball room. Would it continue to chase me down no matter where I fled to (even back to the attic?

  • They stick to the floor of the mansion upon which they are found, if only because of technical limitations. Still, they will attack you (and kill you- my record "death score" after an attack from them is negative 48 health points) as you use the stairs to get to whatever floor (in this case the ground floor) if you choose to try and escape them by moving to another floor of the mansion.

  • Thanks! I would have figured they either would have chases you or you'd suffer some time of consequence for fleeing to another floor. Makes you wonder how they'd hit you while you're on the 2nd floor or something. Probably use some voodoo shit.

  • What always bugged me was that there were 2 doors you couldn't open; one in the ball room and one next to the zombie room.

  • ¿Where is the record that he likes the dancers?

  • The record is in the room of the purple woman ghost that siting on his chair.

  • Wasnt the Macabre of the Dead in Castlevania: SotN?

  • The library in "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" has a similar song, but it is an original composition. ;)

  • this version of "danse macabre" has a gramophone sound effect. interesting! i played the original music version, so i kinda prefer that. a strange error occured in my version: only once did i actually manage to get passed the cthonian behind the wine celler!!! but that was as far as my luck held, for i ran over the bridge and smack into a dead end, the study. but that's how i learned of the third record the ghosts might like, since i had no luck with the other records. it sounded creepy enough^^

  • I ran into that dead end too. Well, the old saying certainly applies here: save early, save often.

  • yeah, apart from that my standart saving points were the long painting gallery, the ballroom and the pillars-planked elevations in the caves.

  • Two things I remember about this part. As someone else pointed out, during the falling planks of the bridge, you could hop. Bizarrely, that would leave alternate planks of the bridge suspended, so it would be possible to return that way via jumping (not that you'd really want to).

  • I also thought that if you touched the dancing ghosts, they didn't kill you until they transformed into those swirling balls. Then they would chase you and kill with one touch (or maybe I'm thinking it was the ghost in the fireplace room that you could run away from). Once they were activated, the graphics would shake to show the house trembling.

They would not chase you across the bridge, yet the "shaking effect" would continue.

  • You can also block the ghosts by closing a door. This doesn't always work, however.

  • There are games better than this, even when i have a core2duo and some big things in the hardware i return to this game several times to remember those good old times. This game rocks. Thanks alot POLE for this videos, i hope everyone remember those feelings of the chilhood that bring us this game seeing this videos.

  • the ballroom wasnt that difficult, you only have to move opposite the maniquies before they hit you.

  • Not to nitpick but the song you called "dance of the dead" is actually called "Danse Macabre" in English too :P Thoroughly enjoying the playthrough, thank you! :D

  • Is there a way to kill a ghost? I was just wondering.

  • No. The only way to "kill" them is to take the key and get out (and to take the key, you HAVE to make them dance).

  • Listen I can solve the puzzle in the game also I learn your game to beating and happy ending. Thumb me If me right or not?

  • Nope, they always shift shape and kills you instantly. You always have to leave the ghosts alone! =)

  • What happens if you try to go out the front door?

  • A HUGE monster appears (can't fit in the door) and eat us.

  • Oh yeah! I forgot! My brother used to play this game and I think that's what happened to him. Some snake looking thing grabbed him and the door just closed. The End.

  • Yeah the green thing kinda sucks Carnby out of the door and it looks like it takes a bite out of him aswell =)

  • it's called Yog-Sothoth and it guards the portal, that's what this god is for anyway.

  • do you know where i can find AITD1 OST? i always wanted to have that Saint Saens piece, game version @.@

  • You can rip it from the CD version OR go to Galbadia Hotel where you can download them.

  • What happens if the Ghosts in the Ballroom touch you?

  • They kill you instantly.

  • They shift shape and kills you with one hit...

  • Thats just lame! Did the creater never heard about things like: A SECOND CHANCE!? xDD

  • It's a greater challenge that way :)

  • Its cheap xD

  • a second chance = reload old save-game

  • are you inside of that one picture now? it looks cool

  • Damn it I never got this far. I was 7 when I played this back in 92. Im now 23 and I still dont think Id be able to solve all the puzzles. Cheers for the walk thru!

  • just did this, god awfull how hard it is while running a virus scanner =p. btw where was Pregzt's travel log found? I couldnt find it

  • the bridge could be passed as well by jumping, but was way MUCH more hard!

Can't remember how to run, anyway :(

  • You had to tap forward twice.

Hard to do with newer computers (but there's a trick), but with DOSBox, it seems to work quite well.

  • it does me think about little big adventure 2. i loved that game!!

  • Same producer: Fréderick Raynal.

  • really??!! wow, what other games did he make?

  • He got quite a nice resume at mobygames . com.

Search "Alone in the Dark", check the credits from Fréderick Raynal and you'll have a list of the games he's credited in and three interviews.

  • thanks... man

  • wow that was so hard...

  • They don´t make this kind of games anymore :/

  • This was the first time I heard Saint Saens. One of the few classical pieces I really know by heart.

  • yeah the dancing ghost room hehe thanks for the nostalgia! :-D

  • When I played, I never got to see what happens when you put one of the other records in.

  • The ghost wont like the music and wont dance.

  • That's a long fall at the end. Phew, that would suck.

  • Great gameplay!
