@starman47611 good point. I just got to season 6-7 of ds9, and the acting is a lot better. The major problem with tng is they went with cgi when they should have stuck with physical sets. The first seasons of both series were pretty bad. Now voyager, that was good from the beginning, and had more of a classic trek feel, not so many all out battle, more exploration and local conflicts.
Ds9 ruined it. Kira is a horrible actor, sisko too soft spoken, and, despite being stuck in one spot, the have a million battles. It's too civilianny, if u no wat I mean. There's nothing new, yet it keeps changing. At least worf kept it
@isaiahawsum no no no d29 was by far the best tng sucked it was so boring and the ruined the borg how can 1 ship destroy a borg cube ds9 was the best thats just my opinion
the part where those two galaxy's tag team that cardassian ship into oblivion is awesome, i just wish the sovereign's had been ready at this point, throw a few of them into the mix and its bye bye dominion :)
i swear, if star trek were to fight an imperial star destroer, even a miranda calss, the stardestroyer would be gone and the federation ship would suffer minor to no damage depending on the ship
The difference is that the wars in Star Trek make sense and are not setup to hide a coup and, in Star Trek, saving the Federation depends on the actions of all not just one "special" group of people.
I know that i will be called TNG-Mainstream-idiot or something like that:
But DS9 is my favorite Star Trek Series. It has some pretty badass battle episodes, but also very touching moments and most of the episodes carry a message.
Those of you asking why the federation didn't use shields is because the dominion ships weapons pierced shields making them useless thats why you see some old ship designs that were based around magnetized armorplating
I hate video monages with crappy music...totally ruins the video for me....HOWEVER, this is not one of them. This music kicks royal ass just like Starfleet!!! Rock on!
Awesome alternate reality that never happened but also did, of the entire crew of Enterprise-D being completely obliterated in nano-seconds crashed on the planet during Supernova.
The people who develop these amazing technologies and ideals grew up on Star Trek. The people who grew up on Star Wars are still trying to use the force. ;-)
The star trek universe is waaaaaaaaaaay younger in terms of the federation though star wars is an insane universe imo in that the republic keeps falling millenia apart only to rise again an infinite pattern it seems doomed to repeat youd think theyd finish the sith once and fall all i guess its very much a yin and yang universe good and evil in equal measure but yes i agree the federation in its short life has loads of conflict.
Now THIS is why I fucking hate the last 20 yrs of Star Trek. About 300 spaceships that look like little toys all within about 3 inches of eachother shooting it out! How did so many brainless idiots get the job making the TV series and the movies? (I don't like this song however)
"About 300 spaceships that look like little toys all within about 3 inches of eachother shooting it out!"
DS9 went way overboard with the battles. I can't imagine hundreds of ships in open space being that close, i'm surprised we don't see ships colliding with eachother, and the computer generated ships just look like shit.
@dahoeb - Oh how I long for the days of Star Trek IV...oh wait...that movie is on dvd isn't it? YES! I can re-live the past! I also noticed in my last comment that I wrote I "didn't" like this song...that was a typo..I meant to say I "do" like the song. The footage is still crap though.
I did no get the first quote, I was thinking he was bashing Sta Trek saying Star Wars was better, but then I realised he was just saying there were so many battles in Star Trek. But up until DS9 there really were not that many battles. The movies yes, but the series no. Gene was obviously apart of the Original Series and I believe he helped with The Next Generation, but after that he died and other people did it. Thus although still Star Trek, a different feel. But still Star Trek.
Actually I thought the point of Star Trek was about equality or something like that. Also pfft the whole show is like a fight scene in every ep. who ever said it was about piece?
Well, I disagree with your point. There were wars in Star Trek, but it was by no means about war, as Star Wars was. Gene Roddenberry's idea of the future wasn't one without war, but one in which war wasn't such a readily chosen path, in which war wasn't glorified... at least not by humans.
Anywho, this is a pretty good video, but I think you missed a lot of opportunities to show the great hand-to-hand combat scenes in Star Trek.
i dont know about his idea of the 'future' as the opening credits to the Star Wars movies (at least the original 3 since i cant remember it scrolling at the start of the new 3) " A long time ago in a galaxy far far away"....but yes i see your point
True. But I wasn't saying anything about Lucas's portrayal of the future, as he wasn't trying to do anything with the future. That's the other thing about Star Wars that bothered me: it danced around being futuristic but never actually touches on the future. *shrug*
@waitingfor2008 Star Wars is a fantasy movie before being about the future. Yes, it goes on a galaxy far away and a long time ago, but it happens in a stage equivalent to what we might have in the future... if we lived in a fantasy universe :-)
@Eikinkloster True. I think maybe Lucas decided to have it in a fantasy setting so that he wouldn't have to seem like he was making predictions. He probably didn't want to get proved wrong, or have to deal with real-world and real-history restrictions. It's understandable.
I've always admired Gene having to guts to work from reality and still create a vibrant sci-fi story.
Yeah, DS9 was a great addition to the Trek franchise, because it put Gene Roddenberry's idea of the future to the test of trying to be that ideal society in an imperfect galaxy.
@waitingfor2008 i very much agree george lucas wanted the war of the empire and rebellion and the clone wars two be a large part of the story line gene wanted it to be part of it to but not a large part he did show that star trek is much more powerful then star wars ( he did not no there was star wars when he made TOS but still i would bet on the enterprise any day against a star destroyer
@waitingfor2008 There were alot of galactic conflicts and warfare, there just isn't as many battle sequences depicted in the Trek series which conveys the scope of warfare throughout the universe, never the less, there was plenty of galactic warfare.
@romefox That's true. After all when you've got so many different space-faring species with differing ideas about how things should work (those not in the Federation), there is bound to be conflict. The fact that it wasn't always shown, but was often acknowledged, is part of what makes Star Trek different. And why I prefer it.
@waitingfor2008 Precisely the the same reason I enjoy Star Trek, we don't need overly produced glorified computer generated effects to enjoy a science fiction story. Star war's is a good example of pageantry over substance!
@romefox Well now, I think Star Wars had substance as well. It's a brilliant story in its own right. Not my favorite, but well made, especially for its time. And frankly I quite liked some of the more effects-heavy Star Trek episodes and films. Like First Contact. I mean that was some delicious eye candy, am right? :D
@waitingfor2008 star trek was more of the slow rising action slow lowing action, it dealt with more scientifici talk, more logic, while star wars was basic "go in, kill, then come back out alive." type of thing ("go in, kill everything, get out")
@daefaron Because they still had the cardassian shield projectors which were pieces of shit. If O'Brien had been able to replace them with Starfleet issue, they'd have had shields up for every battle, but would have lost the plot point of them having a crappy station. They did fix the weapons though, thankfully.
@chrislaf89 I'm talking about the fleet battles. I doubt the entire Federation fleet charged the Cardassian/Dominion fleet with no shield generators. As for DS9 station battles, they actually have the shields around the center part of the station only.
@daefaron The only thing I can think of is that they were too close together to use them. If their shields hit each other, it would hurt more than being hit by weapons. Ones without form-fitting shields probably just put the shield power into the hull integrity or weapons.
thanks. really liked this video
