@W0lfster I'm going to university next year so i greatly agree with the tuition fees bit, Labour should never have charged for them in the first place, But the tories will do more of it in the long term, reduce taxes by hitting the public sector with cuts and more charges. And the coal mining industry was profitable in many areas of the country, i wouldnt have minded her shutting them down as long as she had done it gradually and provided replacement work for the people who worked there.
@TheRacketBoss I am a student and I am suffering with the EMA cuts but if it helps the recession why not? I understand what you are saying about doing it gradually but it was pretty much the only option at the time to scrap it completely. Our country was in great debt at the time and UK coal did not come cheaply, also you have to bear in mind coal was then and is today not as well used as it was 60-100 years ago so another burden on our economy. No morality as you said - save alot lose a little.

I don't think it's a recent thing, I read that Scottish water receives 160Million from Scottish Govm to fund it - Therefore this must be paid by the people, so an increase on tax is needed.

@raverdeath100 I don't want a huge welfare state, I'm clever enough to put spare money aside in good times to help me through the rough. I was unemployed for 3 months at the beginning of the year but kept up with my mortgage payments and other bills without claiming benefits or any other help from the Government. The problem with government providing any service is that its always going to cost far more than it needs to. Look at the NHS, after all the money pumped into it.
@pimpUK1 that's good for you. i was in a similar position. having worked in the welfare state i also understand how many people are not in the position to do the same. the nhs' problem is mainly to do with the contractors providing the back up services. it seems that providing a reliable service comes second to maximising profits. worked in this area too for 2 years. the law of the jungle prevails and now costs more than when these services were inhouse. there are a few myths to be busted.

Yes the cuts are there because Brown has run our country into debt. Tuition fees are again harsh but this would never have happened in labour had not put this policy in the first place, and to say private schools are elitist when they are the ones who started charging students in Unis. And the coal mining industry was profitable in many areas of the country, i wouldnt have minded her shutting them down as long as she had done it gradually and provided replacement work for the people who worked there.

I understand what you are saying about doing it gradually but it was pretty much the only option at the time to scrap it completely. Our country was in great debt at the time and UK coal did not come cheaply, also you have to bear in mind coal was then and is today not as well used as it was 60-100 years ago so another burden on our economy. I don't think it's a recent thing, I read that Scottish water receives 160Million from Scottish Govm to fund it - Therefore this must be paid by the people, so an increase on tax is needed.
If it's not going to benefit, then ofcourse it will be paid otherwise it's robbery. Everything is being cut though, but all spending costs are accounted - including MP's wage's .

@Passionofawriter Yeah Lib Dems ftw. The Euro is pretty great, and illegal immigrants; I love illegal immigrants, especially the murderers and drug dealers. And not having our nuclear defence system, why do we even need that?!? It's a shame that Clegg said none of this is true on national TV, even though it's in their manifesto. You say you could never vote Conservative after the Thatcher / Major years. Please tell me how that time was worse than the last 13 years? And when you cite Black Wednesday and the Minors strike, ask yourself what would Labour have done differently? Note that the pits did not re-open when Labour came to power, and note that Brown's Gold reserve sell off cost the country more than black Wednesday.

@xxAkitoandSanaxx have you ever used a public service? hospitals are better, schools have equipment, the railways aren't deathtraps. i was a civil servant under thatcher. her government is the reason the home office wasn't fit for purpose, the dss being a shambles. she sacked the procurement dept, govt negotiators and fraud dept's. quangos? her govt invented them. defence? her govt starved it of money. transport? her govt atomised it. btw it's MINERS for fuck sake.

@raverdeath100 Which she had to do to stop the deficit! Look around you, everything Labour has improved over the last 13 years has been with loans, not with money through taxation! New hospitals, schools and MOD vehicles have all been procured through PFI so we will pay 4 times as much, hardly value for money! The MOD has been hit very hard by PFI from the new MAN trucks, to new accommodation to forklift trucks.

@pimpUK1 i'm no lover of artificially low taxes, people want these services, you've got to pay for them. thatcher frittered away most of the income from privatisations and oil on tax cuts. where was the investment. i'm no labour supporter or a lib dem. not one party is being honest here. truth is, the tories started the "have your cake and eat it" idea and since then it's been the norm. peace

@raverdeath100 I don't want a huge welfare state, I'm clever enough to put spare money aside in good times to help me through the rough. I was unemployed for 3 months at the beginning of the year but kept up with my mortgage payments and other bills without claiming benefits or any other help from the Government. The problem with government providing any service is that its always going to cost far more than it needs to. Look at the NHS, after all the money pumped into it.

@pimpUK1 that's good for you. i was in a similar position. having worked in the welfare state i also understand how many people are not in the position to do the same. the nhs' problem is mainly to do with the contractors providing the back up services. it seems that providing a reliable service comes second to maximising profits. worked in this area too for 2 years. the law of the jungle prevails and now costs more than when these services were inhouse. there are a few myths to be busted.

@arsehead2000 you keep talking about "critical thinking" and telling me i'm not doing it, i've come up with my own ideas and they tie in more closely to conservative thinking than to labour or lib dem, i've read a lot but my views are born out of my own opinions on what will benefit this country in the long term.

@arsehead2000 surely tax is a means to an end, not just for the sake of the government having a load of people's cash to spend?
and anyway, a third of british businesses have moved abroad under labour because of high taxes, does that not tell you that we should cut corporate taxes to encourage them to stay? it's international businesses like the ones that moved that we need to grow the economy, as they export. only exports will bring money into the country, why over-tax them until they leave?

@arsehead2000 you're not very good at maths either, 415,000 - 40,000 is 375,000. but i'll let you off with that one. that £375,000 is split between all the children, my dad's inheritance was split between 5 families, it doesn't go very far.
to say that just because the money is being spent badly just now is not a good reason to abolish a tax, proves my point that you don't care about services and you are only trying to bring down the rich. surely tax should be at a minimum? it's basically theft

@arsehead2000 you're 26 according to your profile, how much of the 80's can you remember? i have done a lot of reading on thatcher's policies, she supported supply side policy, which meant lower business taxes to encourage enterprise, creating a demand for labour, which means better salaries and more opportunities for your holy working class. but all you jealous morons see is the rich getting richer, and you bring them down along with yourselves.

Just one word to sum up Cameron and his party - 'CON' servative.
Labour aren't perfect but at least the economy is starting to grow again, albeit slowly, but at least it's growing. if this lot got in they would cut just about everything for the majority of us but by then it would be too late. Tax breaks for the very rich - typical tories! If you do vote them in then don't all start complaining later. You have been warned!

@arsehead2000 inheritance tax is wrong in principle. whoever works hard and pays the high rate of tax all their life and who decides so save or invest in property instead of spending it has the right to pass it down to be divided amongst their children without the government taking it. you talk as though the rich in this country have had it easy, most have worked damn hard for what they earn, why should it be taken from them to be given to people they don't even know?

Labour spent their first years in office fixing the mess the Tories left. They've done extremely well to get us out of the recession as fast as they have, the recession under the Tories lasted a decade. Conservatives and Lib Dems want to make cuts, this is going to plunge us straight back into recession. They don't know what they're doing.
