@Mimiplus2 its called "the great outdoors"....it was the ol 96ozer he ate...and if he eat all the grizzle too, they would throw in some hats and tshirts for the kids lmao
Your list is almost perfect, except that Planes was one of the most over-hyped UNFUNNY pieces of drivel ever put on film. i saw it in the theater and people were almost walking out. Candy did his best, but the script totally sucked. Not only that, but it was also easily one of Steve Martin's worst performances ever. (And there have been very few. Steve's usually great.)
Going Beserk rarely gets mentioned...that was a really funny movie...i like all candy movies..Going Beserk, brewsters millions, summer rental, the great outdoors, planes trains and automobiles, speed zone, spaceballs, only the lonely, delirious, whos harry crumb, armed and dangerous(my favourite), once upon a crime, wagons east, nothing but trouble, canadian bacon...God bless John Candy, you were a true legend and you touched many lives with your comedy
#1: The Great Outdoors, #2 Planes, Trains, Automobiles, #3 Uncle Buck, #4 Nothing But Trouble #5 Only the Lonely. My kids love Canadian Bacon. How I love that guy.
I was watching only the lonely the other day. I took a double take during the scene where the one old guy dies in his sleep from a heart attack. The look on John's face. That was only a couple of years before his. I just had a childhood friend die suddenly. He was always afraid of dying young like his uncle. Premonitions?
Trains, Planes and Automobiles, Uncle Buck and The Great Outdoors. They're my top three. They all make me laugh, and cry.
I loved John Candy - God Bless Him. Tears always stream down my cheeks at the end of Trains, Planes & Automobiles when Neal realises that Del's wife has died and he's all alone on Thanksgiving :>{

Looking forward to my annual Planes Trains viewing, only I wish they could now add a TSA grope-down scene. I can only imagine how pissed off Neil would get (and probably get an enhanced cavity search) and of course Dell would be buddies with the TSA and just walk on through even with the sirens on the machines going berserk!
No Volunteers?? Really?? Summer Rental was pish. You obviously haven't seen Volunteers. It's one of Johns best movies. And Tom Hanks is great in it as well.
I agree with Uncle Buck as his #1 and Summer Rental is great at 2. Spaceballs would have been tied at 2 for me.. Prob would have moved Stripes and Cool Runnings up a little. I would have had to have Canadian Bacon and Wagons West in the mix.
@bloodsling Agree, Nothing but Trouble is terrible, I don't know how that movie is on there and Canadian Bacon is not. I'm not saying C-Bacon is great, it's much better than Trouble...
My favorite is Uncle Buck as well. He hits the guy with a golf ball and then again, that is funny. Why isnt spaceballs in the top 3? I love that movie. where Rick Moranis is darth helmelt that is great real great. My list is Uncle buck #1, #2 is Spaceballs, #3 is National Lampoon's vacation and at #15 Cool running. Just something I like. John candy is my favorite Comedian of all times and will be until I die. which will be for another 60-80 years.
id get rid of one of the movies that he didnt play much of a part in for another movie he didnt play much of a part in but was better .. Home Alone... and where was CANADIAN BACON ?!!
YEEAAAHHH!!!!! Uncle Buck # 1. No actor makes me roll on the floor laughing over a broken plate like John did. Seriously they should have capitalized on Uncle Buck before his untimely death. We miss you John!!!!
Going Berserk is not even on this list? Are you f*cking kidding me? Going Berserk is far and beyond Candy's best movie. Do the homework and return when you become a real John Candy fan..
dude i totally called Uncle Buck being Number 1 right when i started watching this....and to top it all off im watching uncle buck at the same time! RIP John Candy.
Plains Trains and Automobiles& Uncle Buck really are tied for #1 for me. Because both characters he plays are quirky, but lovable and caring. Both characters face a hardship. When you think about they are actually somewhat similar movies.
My god, between losing John Candy in '94, Chris Farley in '96 and John Hughes in '09...man we're losing all the great ones.
John Candy always makes me feel better, he had a special way of making you look at your own life and seeing the good in it which makes you feel better.
Although most of his films were funny they were also very poignant and deep at times and pulled at the heart strings without being to soppy.
Although I love Uncle Buck planes trains and automobiles was his greatest film and he acted Steve martin off the screen
Planes, Trains and Automobiles is on another level, it was by far John Candy's finest moment on screen. Some other greats that were left off were Blues Brothers, Home Alone, Canadian Bacon, JFK, Volunteers, and one of the best jobs he did was on Vacation as security guard Lasky which was hilarious.
My favorite was John's favorite and that is his role of Del Griffith in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I thought it had his best acting, and his best moment in film which of course I am refering to his "I like me" speech. But looking at this list shows just how fun his movies where, like Arm and Dangerous. He would be happy to know how much he is still remembered nearly sixteen years after his passing.

My top 5 are:

John Candy only has a small part in #1 and #4, but they still count in my opinion.
