Irabu was a great pitcher, but he had serious personal issues that kept him from achieving his true potential. He was the Yankee's #1 pitcher for two months! He had some terrible stretches though. Yankee's pitching coach Stottlemeyer I think his name was, said "Irabu had the best arm I've ever seen." Irabu was a great pitcher, there is no doubt about that. His depression and poor mental health left him unable to become one of the greatest Yankee's pitchers ever. Rest in peace.
Please remember Irabu's biological father is US military personnel. However, Irabu's father dissapeared before he was born and Irabu lost the US citizenship. One of the reasons he came to MLB was that Irabu expected to meet his biological father. Also he wanted to be "American" as his root.
He did have a great arm, too bad he could never really get it together. Then again aside from that bad Rangers game and the 1998 ticker tape parade on television, I didn't remember much about this guy.
wow i came here cuz i just read an article bout Irabu committing suicide...still a funny clip tho....frank castanza is really ben stillers dad in real life....jerry stiller is better on king of queens...he's funny on both tho...
I always thought it looked like Uncle Leo was laughing in this scene. Maybe he really was snd they just left it in. I could not have kept a straight face.
I recently read that Hideki Irabu recently retired after pitching in a low-level Japanese baseball league (not the top Japanese major leagues). The Yankees were fortunate to have the better Hideki - Hideki Matsui - to help them win the World Series in 2009.
@foccha When the episode first aired it was unedited. They cut out some parts of the episode after it first aired for syndication, including this one.
Does anyone have the video scene the guy getting car jacked. I believe it was the LAST episode. All four of the cast members were prosecuted because they did not assist this fellow being car jacked. I would love to see it. Thank you!
R.I.P Hideki Irabu & R.I.P George Steinbrenner! You Two Will Be Sadly Missed.
