I promise this is a Jenday. I have bred and handfed, and sold them for 8 years. I own 4 myself. Petco and other stores lump them together with Sun conures a lot, because it's less confusing for people who are shopping. I know, because I sell to pet shops myself and watch them make the labels right in front of me. So yes, in a sense the pet shop did lie to you, but not to be mean. They literally just don't know the difference. And no one at petco is a "bird expert". Unless he hatches them himself
Thats so weird it looks so much like a Jenday! Cause it has so much green and yellow on the head. Usually sun conures have way more red and orange. Maybe the people at Petco did lie to you, or maybe they mixed up the labels :P Or maybe this is a jenday sun conure mix haha xD Or maybe its a female and is less colorful. Ya, I think that is it :P lol
I just got one of these guys myself, two and half days ago. He's from petsmart though, he looks like yours and isn't all birght but he has yellows speckles on his wings. So I don't know how old he is but I guess he has time to go before he is an year old.
I have two sun conures two. My one, Cleo is very protective of me, she won't let anybody pet her, unless I tell her to. She also likes to click and bob her head with me.
Looks just like my baby sun conure. I wasn't sure if our baby was a sun or a jenday either but our store said it was a sun. He looks exactly like yours with all that green so I can see why people get confused but he is so fun and georgeous that I really couldn't care less if it were a jenday he's my precious little baby.
young sun conure do have green wings and turns to yellow as it matures, the yellow color may also have a patch of dark olive green and pale yellow but brightens as it ages.
Aw, looks just like my baby sun conure! He's only 3 months old so he still has mostly green feathers. He even has that sprinkling of green on top of his head like yours does. :)
Kiwi is a very beautiful MATURE sun conure. :) GoldenFrog's sun is a baby in this video, and baby suns have green wings and back. My own little mostly-green baby sun is sitting on my shoulder as I type. I should put up my first video of him so everyone can see his lovely jenday coloring before he molts out to his mature yellow back and wings. Then I'll put up vids of him after his molt to show that some birds really DO change coloring as they get older.
Yes my new baby Sun is green on back and body too but will change after a few molts to mostly orange.Ringnecks are another parrot that changes with the males getting their rose ring after about 14 mths -2yrs.
that's a jenday conure because it has green in its head. eventhough there's a slight difference, it's still a jenday...sun conures are bright yellow and orange.
Well, I shouldn't say obviously. It really could be a jenday. but young sun conures often look very much like jendays and so without knowing the age of the bird we should just respect the video's poster and assume that they know what kind of bird they own. I have seen many baby suns that are green like this.
RatFurCoat, you are right, this is a baby sun. I have a 3-month-old sun, and I know the breeder personally and have met the parent birds, who are both 100% sun conures. My little guy's back and wings are green too, until they start to molt out to the mature yellow coloring around 6 months or so.
This is a very young Sun Conure. When they are young they are very green in color. As they grow older they lose the green color. Thats why some people think it may not be a Sun Conure. This is just a baby!
Wish I had a few of skittles when he was all mottled green and oogly.
And to everyone thats sayin its not a sun, I'm pretty sure it is, my sun looked almost exactly like that when he was little, they all start out green.
you know, once i get a new cam and can start taping again. i'll show you guys what a beautiful SUN CONURE he is because NOW all of his feathers are almost yellow!
Wronf. This is NOT a Jenday. I have three. This is a young sun conure. Not a mix, not a Jenday, not a Nanay(which are darker green all over with a black head and red trim).
omg you guys. it IS a sun conure. the fucking labels said it everywhere at petco. and so did the BIRD EXPERT who sold me the bird. i think she would know better than anyone. Jesus christ.
LOL I remember when My little sun looked like that. Today I found like 3 of my baby Indian ringnecks and my female blue and gold Macaw all went to her cage . I am not sure why. I guess they know shes the Queen LOL

When a sun conure is young, it looks like a jenday with green wings. Around 1-2 years, the conure will have its normal adult coloring.
