truth is any operating system runs well on a system built well..thats why i never buy computers from any store..i build my own..faster, better, and cheaper.
My recent rig has the following
AMD Phenom II x4 3.4gz quad core
12gb of ddr3 1066 ram geil black dragon for gaming
They are making fun of Apple starting every thing with i ... iTune, iMovie, iLife.. iiiiiiii same idea<<< get it i-dea hahaha... but yes it gets old fast... I don't like it...
@yrady I'm wondering if you know what you're talking about. I'm not a fan of Windows overall but as a tech pro I've to say that Vista is quite good. There is some nasty default settings which eats up cheap laptops or grocery-store PC's. Any time I prefer to work with people's PC rather if they have Vista than XP. The latter is just so slow to interact with.
Vista haters are mostly unexperienced kids who heard from someone with a noob computer, that Vista sucks.
@Excizted During Release Vista had no proper driver support,pc games ran like shit,my Engineering assignments came to a complete standstill and there's a more lot of fucked up things about Vista.
I WAS ABOUT TO LOSE A ENTIRE YEAR DUE TO THIS COCKSUCKING OPERATING SYSTEM.
let´s see guys microsoft winned the monopolly of the market inly google chrome os can stop it windows controls 88% of the market i hope ubuntu or kubuntu can reverse it and those companies only want money so they develop games for windows
Tbh i think this functions faster and looks much much nicer than vista. Im currently running both OS' and ii use Vista because its more essential with what i need but i use Kubuntu whenever i can. It really is great :)
I love this OS . I like Ubuntu also but KDE Is better to me.
Ubuntu is much easier but kde is complicated. Kubuntu (KDE) is like Windows 7 and Vista but better... Cause It's customizable!!!. I love installing "kubuntu-desktop" on ubuntu 9.04 by just switching through sessions. It's free and easy to use. Kubuntu could like also look like Mac and 7 and Vista and XP :O. But linux sucks for games :( : ( :( . I hope companys could support this OS with those.
Hmp.... all right than. I'm that pro in Linux lol... So I didn't understand half the stuff you said.. I'm still learning commands and installing files manually, which is a pain . .. . . I'm so use to "Program Files" in windows. It's hard to install in linux with tar.gz and other files for linux. But I like Linux cause it's fast and stable . But I wish I could run games for it (I know WINE) .
You can think of it like an internet browser. Each internet browser(Firefox, IE, Chrome, etc..) has its own themes, plugins, and interface. When each of the browsers go to the same page, it may look different from browser to browser.
KDE, Gnome, XFCE and other Desktop Environments can be used to browse Linux. You can install multiple DE`s even though they use the same file system. Each DE has their own set of programs.
Issues which was very very frustrating as this game was made for linux, I have yet to solve the problem and it is preventing me from joining an online game but overall I suppose its not all that bad, when ever i get stuck i just do a quick google search with my problem and usually i find a forum post or guide somewhere that explains it pretty quickly.
What about the learning curve ? What similarities & differences does it have to windows ? Just a few if you can please ? I'm trying to decide if I'm going to try it or not.
ahh here is the hard part. in short term: linux is not for basic users. linux is designed for advanced users and is not the most userfriendly os out there but ubuntu and kubuntu are good but i suggest u give kubuntu a try
I have used xubuntu, ubuntu and vector linux and even dsl, I personally prefer xubuntu since its geared towards performance instead of flashy lights, however you can always add those packages on. I have it installed on my laptop right now and In general its not hard to use if ur using it for basic task like email etc, It took me a while to install flash and get my wireless working right and I learned that installing a game called Wolfenstein:enemy territory will result in write permission
Kubuntu and Ubuntu are both easy to adapt to. Ubuntu feels easier to customize though. One difference between Kubuntu and Ubuntu is the hardware requirements. Ubuntu has a lower minimum than Kubuntu but it's possible for Ubuntu to need more processing power if you decide to add some crazy effects. If you have integrated graphics, you should probably use Ubuntu or Xubuntu.
your specs should be able to run any linux operating systems. i have a 512 ram and its fine. but the IGP 345m i dont know. you better do some research on google. my radeon 320m has some problems with linux.
Please, do not call different Linux distributions as different operating systems.
Distribution != operating system. The linux kernel is the operating system. Most users do not know because they mistake microkernel and monolithic kernel to each other and because there is so much marketing propaganda between distributors who want to get more customers. Linux OS only need Pentium 486 state processor and 4-16Mb RAM. Now usually PIII level CPU because complication. Check monolithic kernel information
The buttons in the Taskbar, where are the programs launched by the user, are very beautiful! but those are the default in kde4.2? (are similar to those of Windows 7, icon only, without description)
It is only about KDE and GNOME between Kubuntu and Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is Linux OS + GNU development tools + other software (mysql, cups, Xorg etc) + GNOME (GNU software) desktop environment.
Kubuntu is Linux OS + GNU development tools + other software (mysql, cups, Xorg etc) + KDE desktop environment.
The only difference is the GRUB (bootloader) theme. The boot theme, and choise of login manager (GDM or KDM) and then the desktop environment (+ different set of application programs)
Hey, i run ubuntu 10.10 gnome, and i must say KDE looks so complicated!

I don't care about KDE or GNOME GUI.All i want is performance which both of them give.
I always hated vista but use it only because of dx 10 and a bigger operating area compared to lunix.
vista sucks!!!!
Everybody agrees right???

I don't mean to be an ass or anything, but do you have any idea what you are talking about?
Ubuntu is a distribution rolled off of Debian. Ubuntu is a base system, and comes default with Gnome (the GUI).
KDE, is just like Gnome, a GUI.
KDE and Gnome can be installed on all flavors.
