  • They do the same thing with so many aspects of environmentalism these days. I left that movement simply because now it's almost all lies and exaggerations simply to scare people, and I don't like fearmongering, that's also the same reason I left the christian religion ... coincidence?

  • @whatyououghttoknow

you should talk to Murdoc Nichols about this he may have a different opinion

  • 2:47 Ha! :D

  • Welcome to the world of plastic beach.

  • @trifarce101 Gorillaz?

  • It's Captain Barbossa giving us a lesson on pollution

  • @incalite thanks for the well-thought-out reply. I agree. I perhaps became over-the-top.

  • I'm all for cleaning up our messes, but caring more about whales than people is a MUCH bigger problem than a so-called "trash island" will ever be. Loosen up pseudo-hippies, and make the starving children in Africa a higher priority.

  • @mgwager 80% of photosynthesis (i.e. tree sucks in CO2 and sunlight, produces glucose and oxygen) occurs in our oceans. Having our garbage slip into gyres, as well as vast overfishing on the part of companies like Mitsubishi, are putting life on Earth at risk in the most literal sense. Photodegraded plastics, loose nets, and overfishing endanger oceanlife populations worldwide. Kill the fish and you could kill our zoo- and phytoplankton. Kill them, and you kill 80% of oxygen production on Earth.

  • @mgwager I don't mean to downplay the tragedies currently in effect in Africa, some of which actually being involved with Mitsubishi and other global fishing companies out-fishing local communities, but be careful with what things you make top priorities; ignoring the full magnitude of each subject could very well lead one to making the wrong decisions.

  • No, it's not actual island. It's nothing solid you can stand and walk on, it's just place in ocean full of plastic garbage and plastic bits. Yummy.

Is it island? No. Is it problem? Yes!

  • If you're interested in recycling art and trash watch "Safe the planet-Recycling art" ,"Your trash haunts you" and "Miss Biarritz" you will enjoy it !!!

  • I define an island as something you can stand on.

    Questions?

  • Isn't there a guy somewhere who's built himself a plastic island out of non-decapped plastic bottles in old fishing nets?

  • heavy metal sticks to the tiny bits of plastic, which gets eaten by fish which get eaten by humans...

    get the problem?

  • Do you not think this rant is a tad counter productive? you seem less concerned about the the actual point than splitting hairs...

  • this guy cracks me up....

  • At first I thought you pirate voice was incredibly stupid, but then I find myself laughing halfway through the video. Also this was very informative thank you.

  • @dlautenschlager You're joking, right? People like you are the problem. "Douches" like people in CA tried to outlaw plastic bags - but dumb fucks like you don't want to be inconvienienced. It's not to late to find compassion and try to stop destroying this beautiful world of ours. Just do one thing to be a better human.

  • Watch this and see an idiot who wants to argue that we can't actually walk on the "trash island". He's not seeing the forest for the trees!! If the plastic is in small pieces then I guess that's ok to him - he just wants to make sure everyone knows that the plastic is not creating a land mass that we can profit from it's real estate values. Critical thinking skills are lacking here and a compassion for our planet!! The plastic IS a HUGE problem!!

  • For a second there, I thought you were saying there's actually a body of land twice the size of Texas out there that is apparently not on the map/globe. Were you saying there is that big of a blob of trash floating in the Pacific? Where'd that come from? I never heard of that from the news, or anyone! Of course it's not an island, but some people may have called it that JUST for figure of speech or joke. It's wrong to dump shit into the ocean like that, people go to the beach and stuff...

  • The point...

    Some of you missed it.

  • u can find it on google.com

    i looked and found it

    it looks discusting

  • ARGHHH! there be no place to dock me ship!

    lmao xD

  • Your a Jack-ASS. Of course it doesn't pile up like an actual island you moron, It's in the middle of the ocean. This is devastating to the ocean and the marine life, and because you were stupid enough to think it piled up in the ocean you had to try and be funny and down play it and thought this would make you look less of an idiot? "What you ought to know" is if we fed you little bits of plastic you would die too. How funny would that be?

  • @elust1010 did you even watch the video...he was making a joke about exaggeration of facts

  • @CTCCREW Yea I did watch the video which is why I responded. The area is full of plastic broken down into small pieces, collecting in one area, because we are a wasteful people. This Jack-Ass is trying to minimize the problem by saying, "there is no problem because we can't see it." If you watch some other videos about the area you will see how bad it really is. Yea I know the point and just because you act like a pirate and try to make small of something big doesn't make it funny.

  • Comment removed

  • are fucking blind?? did u just watch one video.. do some more research before you make yourself look like an ignorant fool... i wish i could meet you in person i would do mental laps around your ass...

  • stop with the pirate shit

  • Yeah your right! 1 plankton to every 6 bits of plastic isn't a problem at all. While the island part isn't true you should still acknowledge the fact that its a huge environmental problem.

  • Why dont you Environmentalists blame the 3rd world countries instead of America, we dont back dumptrucks out on the pier and pour shit in retards

  • @Lollingonyounub well, we actually do - the trash goes out on barges and does not come back - where do you think it goes?

  • You need a bit of imagination my friend. If those tiny little plastics can cause all these, imagine these piling up to become a huge real trash island. The problem would be astronomically bigger! I think the ocean over there would be plain dead if it happens.

  • nigga, don't downplay the seriousness of this. 1 star

  • wtf...and then you'll complain that liberals are conspiring to use the govt to force some secret agenda. horseshit. plus, the first part of legislation is agitation and debate. idjit.

  • You won't find pictures of an island.

You will find a lot of reports by the US fish and wildlife service, University of California's Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the BBC and many many more detailing how large a problem this is and how dangerous this is to the enviroment and us.

Have a look at titan arts llc website (the people how made this video). The second sentence states that "Shows with G and PG ratings are far more profitable," yeah well we see where their priorities lie.

  • I'm in favour of telling the truth to. Yes it is not an island you could walk on,although birds can be seen sitting on parts of it.

Ok have a problem with it being called an island but dont try to downplay how horrifying this is.

If its word play he's annoyed about why does he think island entails continental size?

Not a toxic stew? Plastics releasing harmful particles & chemicals into the enviroment contaminating pretty much everything in the area. Would he eat a fish caught there?

  • Stupidity has not limits, and this guy is just a prefect proofe of it.

  • One major observation... this guy refers to the Gyre as a wreck that he wanted to slow down and gawk at... well NEWSFLASH we're all in the wreck. It's much harder to see the carnage when your own head is shoved through a windshield.

  • Can you say IGNORANT.

The plastic problem in the ocean is not just an island, it's a mountain! These are metaphors to describe the absolutely horrible state our ocean is in.

    Get a clue - get a life.

  • this guy sounds more like a republican apologist by trying to make lite of something VERY serious. What ever the popular name is for it .... It IS a floating mass of toxic plastic particles that are the size of confetti . It's nearly sludge and it's growing larger every year and will NEVER go away.. The fish eat it and we eat the fish.

  • YES - Finally some common sense---

The guy was also a woodworker who turn marine expert ???

  • :( you are upset because the ones who are trying to inform you about a new catastrophic discovery are using a title that paints a picture that doesnt match your expectations in your imagination. give them five points off of their paper after you get your masters degree in english.

  • The video rocks, as usual.

  • wtf i juz wanna see a fucking picture of it got damn

  • well, i guess i found a trash island on the youtube. it's definitely not deep and it's fairly diluted with water, but trash it is, indeed.

  • can you see all the molecules of fat in a glass of milk?

    DOESN'T MEAN THEY AREN'T THERE!

fighting over definitions.... distracts from the message.

    satire? no.

  • No. Deliberately overstating the REAL facts, mislabeling and misleading people about the problem distracts from the message. And BTW your "Milk analogy" is horrible because he didn't say there is no plastic and no gyre, he just said its not a island like some people try to portray it. If its not a visible island calling it one is blatantly deceiving and presenting the facts inaccurately does not help any cause in the long run.

  • ok, milk. but mocking a serious message makes it easier for people to disregard it. prehaps shock tactics and overstatement are the only way to wake people up.

island, area, patch... who cares what it's called, as long as we get people's attention. this video makes the whole concept out to be a joke purely due to it's definitions.

  • ima go plant a flag and crown myself king of shit

  • Why are you squished? Depriving Camera Guy of his daily beer ration?

  • I don't know. YouTube must have changed the rules on us somewhere. The video we uploaded for this one is no different from our others. I had to click the fullscreen button and then escape out of it to fix it.

  • great video. this probably is the biggest problem on the planet.

  • make a video oN GTA IV we love you!

  • One mans trash is another mans treasure,

    it's pl'aztec gold!

  • Brilliant!
