(Yes, I realize the sax does not actually stem from the bassoon, but the timbres do have a fair bit of similarity.)

I also find it interesting that the bassoon manages to go a whole-tone lower than the baritone sax despite being much smaller.

@VXDevistatorXV yup, most European languages use some variation on the word "fagott" to refer to a bassoon. The insulting slang you're thinking of is actually spelled "faggot." They both refer to the old definition meaning bundle of sticks though.

Seriously wow!! I started the bassoon about 6 months ago and that was incredibly inspiring- a nice break from my traditional background of all classical. It really does have an amazing tone- that was awesome.

Playing flute and clarinet together doesn't work to well. Clarinet and flute have totally different embouchure, so you're flute tone would probably be really bad.

Wow, you are excellent~! Sure, I can get out those slurs and higher notes, but how can you change, without work, to that note, where it was like 'bum-bum-bum' I think it was low b flat. xD Its hard for me to play that note. I've been with my bassoon for only a couple years now. :o
