  • Song was written and song by Dobie Gray... He Passed Away early December 2011

  • @tyroneinphily Sang by Dobie Gray. He didnt write it. Although his version is definatly the best.

  • me gustoooo muchooo estaa rifadaaa y mass con THE BEATLESS ♥♥

  • I hate it when someone makes up some bullshit about a band then posts it as if it's a fact

  • it was and still is considered a rare recording the fact that its on the net doesnt change that fact people

  • no beatles here

  • I don't know why people talk about "rare" in this day and age. Having one copy on the net is the same as having a milllion...

  • Sorry, but NOBODY does this song like Dobie Gray.

  • La eterne lucha beatles-rolling, la verdad es que esta canción es muy buena, tiene feeling

  • wouldnt be extremely rare if 300k people already saw it

  • so whois the original singer/band that made this song?

  • Not so rare now, is it.

  • This is the same thing thats tatoo on Lil B's neck.. this is #ExtremelyRare

  • c'mon man, beatle and rolling stones are friend. beatles introduce drugs to rolling stones

  • Mick is doing great here- but why the title The Beatles & Rolling Stones - Drift Away [Extremely Rare] C'mon dude. What are u trying to say?

  • i know that beatles broke up in 1970, but at 2.58 it seems to be Paul's "nasal" voice backing up the whole thing.

  • Lol Beatles ain't in this! And more, Rolling Stones are nowhere near (musically) the Beatles. I mean what's Rolling Stones best song? Gimme Shelter?

Beatles best song(s): Come Together, Let It Be, Penny Lane, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, I Am the Walrus etc etc

  • @TheMacciz stones rock mate... nuff said...

  • @TheMacciz I agree, the Beatles are the best band that ever lived, but hey man, don't be knockin on the stones.

  • Enjoy the song, guys, quit this "There are no Beatles" thing.

  • There is an unreleased 1973 recording of this song by The Rolling Stones. This version features all of the members of the then-current lineup of the Stones with the exception of Keith Richards and the addition of keyboardist Nicky Hopkins. This version is frequently and erroneously referred to as having been recorded by The Rolling Stones and The Beatles together, which would have been impossible, as The Beatles were already broken up three years by the time of this recording.

    No Beatles there.

  • @jamesbond07006 : copied and pasted from Wiki...and we all know Wiki is NEVER wrong....

  • @kellyecote It can be wrong, But... You know.. About a song... I dont think so..(;

  • The Beatles are so magical that they managed to help record this song 3 years after they broke up!

  • the vocals and guitar remind of the work stones memebers did on the john philips album, pay pack and follow, mid seventies

  • the stones are retiring this year and the beatles were really close to the stones

  • People, let me ask you this: does that sound like John Lennon or Paul McCartney backing up Mick Jagger? No, it doesn't. That being said, what could possibly give you any idea that The Beatles were involved? Don't be an idiot and say "Well, the name SAYS it's The Beatles & Rolling Stones". Bullcrap. Think for yourselves, sheep

  • the original version of this song was done by Dobie Gray in 1973 three years after The Beatles broke up, missleading

  • @jody808 the original version of this song was done by john henry kurtz in 1972.

  • The Beatles broke up years before this song was written, stupids.

  • the original is by John Henry Kurtz... his version is on here (look for the hq version) it's terrific

Dobie's is as good or better than that.

  • lol

  • No the original singer is Dobie Gray.

  • Wasn't this written by the Beatles for the Stones? According to trivia legend

  • haha, this is great anyway.. i wish they actually HAD recorded something together though.

  • still not as soulfull as dobie gray

  • Buddy Holly sounds awesome on bass.

  • This song was recorded in 1973(!!) People! The Beatles Already Broke up!!

  • This is not the Stones, or the Beatles!!!

  • co za azy?

  • ¿Es una broma no? ¿O es sólo ignorancia? No hay ningun beatle.

  • Yep this is pure stones. No beatles.

  • fake

  • Cuts off about halfway through.

  • Booooooooooooooooooo!

  • at 2.57 maybe I can hear the voice of Paul??!

  • @keithandmick that is keith richards

  • impossible considering it was made in 1973, or 3 years after the beatles had broken up.

  • On the contrary, the broke up from tours, they had two albums after that in this year.

  • @36WESTY36 Or impossible to think that they recorded it with the beatles since I can't hear a Lennon, a Harrison etc. I know enough to know that the beatles are not in this recording. stones <333333

  • BA SONG!

  • DOBIE GRAY!!!

thats the guy who made this

  • @ABOM420 wow would of never of thought of that derr lol

  • THIS SONG WAS MADE BY NEITHER

IT WAS BY A BLACK MAN WHOS NAME I ALREADY FORGOT EVEN THOUGH I LITERALLY JUST LOOKED IT UP

    SOMETHING WITH A .....STARTED WITH A D I THINK

  • @ABOM420 "Drift Away" is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz :)

  • @ABOM420 so Dobie Gray was did the original (and a fine job, too!) - but I still love to hear my favorite artists do covers of good songs whether it's "their" song or not.

  • @pattyfromtoledo John Henry Kurtz did the original in 1972... Dobie's 1973 cover is by far the most popular, though it's also been covered by Roy Orbison, Ike and Tina Turner, Humble Pie, Rod Stewart, Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, The Neville Brothers, Michael Bolton, Ringo Starr and many others.

  • @spaced0ubt thanks for that interesting info! - - I'm going to look up the original version : )

  • @pattyfromtoledo My pleasure... there's also a much better version by the Stones on here... posted by user jaggermorrison2010 (it's in the suggestions on the right hand side with a pic of Keith playing a les paul)

  • This is how it was labeled on limewire, beatles and stones.

i thought people had common sense to realize that was a spam title to get downloads

    guess not.

  • If anyone knows the word music they know this is it

  • this song was made by the rolling stones but it was made thinking on the beatles and how the rollings loved them

  • Wait! Am I wrong, or Michael Jackson is also in this recording, dancing behind Jagger?

  • @clambondingla really funny!!!

  • @clambondingla and shouldnt there be jesus somewere there aswell hehe

  • @clambondingla u ass

  • i guess in this recording the beatles mopped up the studio afterwards cuz i cant hear them at all

  • No Beatles here!! this is STONES

  • @imaStonesFan You're absolutely right - when this recording was done The Beatles had been broken up for three years already.

  • @cunt9ravy Thanks :-) I`m glad someone knows their music around here!

  • I've heard people say both The Beatles and The Stones sang this. I still couldn't find anything Beatle in this song. Of course it's just the Stones!

  • this is just the Rolling Stones....

  • Amidst all the dopes, a lot of people here actually know their stuff. BUT two things I've heard no one bring up are: 1) Lennon and McCartney sang backup on The Stones' "We Love You", and 2) This version of 'Drift Away' is being played by the 1973 lineup of the Stones, but with Keith Richards absent and Nicky Hopkins present.

  • @reverendflash without Keef, really? Could've sworn he was doing backing vocals. :(

  • Well it could be liek just one of the band members from the beatles doesnt not anyone think about that x

  • So rare it didn't even happen.

  • best song ever i listened to other covers this is the best

  • Whether this is fake or not its still cool. And I definitely hear Jagger.

  • @jns0512

It's not even a question of it being 'fake'. This is most likely a 'real' version by The Stones without The Beatles. Ringo Starr did record his own solo version separately, however.

  • I've heard versions from Dobie Gray through to Rod Stewart and I have to say for me this is the version that does it for me, there 's Blues ,Rock and Country all rolled into it ....BRILLLLLLLLL !!!

  • i dont really care if this is real or not! this is an awesome version!

  • @NowhereGirl10 I know what you mean, and some of the guitar licks sound a bit Harrisonesque but again I don't know. I always thought this track was recorded during the sessions for "It's only rock & roll" and I know people like I know that people like Ronnie Wood and Jimmy were rumoured to have played on the title track, so who knows...

  • Rstonesfan1962, I'm not suprised at your response, people with a limited I-Q wouldn't know GOOD music if it jump out at you. I do feel sorry for your family cause you probably KISS some of them with that NASTY mouth of yours,,,,Look in a mirror sometime and you'll see who is #@&#%&# stupid. Get a dictionary and learn some NEW words little boy.

  • I've listened to this several times now.Tell me somebody - which of the Beatles are supposed to be on the track?

  • @jonnybrowne I hear Paul's voice... but, I don't know...

  • I've listened to this several times now.Tell me somebody - which of the Beatles are supposed to be on this?

  • heres a idea fer everyone instead of bitchin and complainin and tryin to look smart and say yall kno everything bout music why not enjoy songs like these i dono much bout music but the facts i do kno is u dont find music like this in todays society and this kinda music is better then todays music like fer example this is a great song it has a nice relaxin tune a song u could listen to 100 times and keep listenin to it rihannas songs u could listen to fer like a hour max then switch to a new song

  • @flameboyab just don't type anything else

  • @TheMick419 is that sarcasm er no?

  • @rstonesfan y ur account says u 20 ur me dads generatian 1962

  • @rstonesfan 1962 ur right

  • @rstonesfan 1962

  • fuck all of you this is the shit mick sings this better than the origional fucker u guys are fuckin stupid

  • wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu esta kncion es lo maximo_O!

  • Mick Jager and Paul McCartney . The best Group the singing :D

  • The Beatles weren't together when this song was written. Don't hear any Beatles' voices. Can anyone point them out to me. Possibly some of them got together for this.

  • What does this hav 2 do with the beatles?

  • this is jagger... singing XD

  • it's ok

  • lol I like this song, but this version is bad. This hasn't much to do with the Beatles, does it? I mean, I like the Stones as much as the next guy, but this version is clunky and horrible lol. horrible, just oribble!

  • Anyone who thinks that Jagger did this song better than Dobie is insane. Even worse is Mick trying to change his voice to imitate Dobie. What a joke. And I like the stones.

  • The only beatle that recorded this song was Ringo Starr in his album Vertical Man in 1998, featuring Tom Petty, Alanis Morrinset and Steven Tyler.

  • You can convert this or any youtube video to an mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • this has a blues feels and it doesnt matter whos better

  • "Extremely Rare" because recording of Beatles singing this with the Stones does not exist.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICK!

  • Splitting the difference for Monday. Happy birthday to Mick Jagger who is singing a cover of Drift Away made famous by his co-birthday boy, Dobie Gray. There's enough love for everyone! :)

  • uncle kracker is the best

  • Dobie Gray is way better

  • Love this song - I want to cover it with one of my bands as the last song in our set. :-)

  • best of anyone by far

  • The Beatles aren't in this because it was after they broke up but what an awesome cover by The Stones!!!

  • The Beatles aren't in this song.

This is a cover of Drift Away by The Rolling stones.

"The Rolling Stones 1974 (usually incorrectly named along with The Beatles, which may be attributed to peer-to-peer file sharing and someone mislabeling the song as such but continued being shared and labeled incorrectly. This error has even found itself on YouTube with no correction)."

  • reguardless of if this was with the beatles or not, It is sex.

  • When I listen to this song it sounds like you can hear Lennon's voice on the backing vocals. Especially when he says "I wanna get lost in your rock and roll" . I guess thats what I hear.. If this song was from 1973, it would've been when Lennon was in L.A. for his "lost weekend" and it would make sense that he could Possibly be on the track.

Either way, great version, and I like Mick's voice on this; I think it fits perfectly.

  • The e Rolling Stones 1974 (usually incorrectly named along with The Beatles, which may be attributed to peer-to-peer file sharing and someone mislabeling the song as such but continued being shared and labeled incorrectly. This error has even found itself on YouTube with no correction).

  • Jagger/Richard sang on "All You Need Is Love"; Jones played sax on "You Know My Name"-Beatles gave Stones their hit "I Wanna Be Your Man" after finishing the song in another room where the Stones were praticing. The Beatles pics were in "Satanic Majesties" cover; Stones were in Sgt. Pepper cover-Brian Jones was actually John Lennon and John Lennon was the Walrus-goobgoobajoob....

  • @TheDenny2 Lennon and mcartney sang on dandelion, she's a rainbow, 2000 light years from home, and we love you.

  • the beatles aren't on this track? It's from the stones's Goats Head Soup sessions, probably when they were in Jamaica.

  • omgomgomgomgomgomg. Im hyperventilating right now b/c of how amazing this is

  • A question came on tv today - it was: When did the Stones have their last UK Number One hit ? The 1960's,70's or 1980's ? I was sure it would have been at the very least the 1970's BUT the anwser was the 1960's!!! That is pitiful. Even The Beatles with their solo careers kept on having Number Ones right up until the 80's!

  • None of The Beatles could have pulled this song off with this much soul. That is one of the biggest differences between the Beatles and Stones. The Stones have a real understanding of American country-ish music.

  • i do agree the stones do have tons of soul but the beatles had more soul than your giving them credit for but i bet they could have done this song not as good as the stones but pretty damn well

  • the beatles had more soul than your saying they did but i do agree the stones have more then the beatles but i can say that the beatles could have done a damn good cover of this song

  • Wow this is great

  • The Beatles never performed with the Stones. The only close call came in Nov-Dec

1968 when John sang Yer Blues on a Stones special that never aired until John was gone. "Rock&Roll Circus" check it out....But the Beatles did give the Stones

I Wanna Be Your Man as one of their 1st hits. After George told the guy who blew signing the Beatles to go check out the Stones, Decca signed them after that.

  • @SHONA825 I must say what you posted is quite accurate

  • @SHONA825

I think Jagger sang on the chorus with a bunch of other people on the song "all you need is love"

Plus Brian Jones played sax on "baby you're a rich man"

I'm pretty sure about these two points....but I may be wrong

  • @alittlebluehouse no no that's not true, he actually played sax on You Know My Name (Look Up the Number), another Beatles track

  • nice song. from which period/"album" is this ?

  • Well, but from witch album is this song ?

  • Stop arguing over who wrote the song. It was me! >:D

(Just kidding, The Beatles had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with this song.)

  • "Drift Away" (also known erroneously as "Give Me The Beat, Boys") is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972. However, Dobie Gray's cover is by far the most popular version. It became Gray's biggest hit in 1973, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, though it did not enter the charts in the UK. Sorry Elvis, but your wrong, do your research.

  • @Gustavsonny You sir have won at youtube.

  • WORSHIPthekingELVIS Sorry, your completely wrong.Don't spread shit on youtube. "Drift Away" (also known erroneously as "Give Me The Beat, Boys") is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972. However, Dobie Gray's cover is by far the most popular version. It became Gray's biggest hit in 1973, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, though it did not enter the charts in the UK." Do your research! Peace

  • GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTT !

  • Don't forget Uncle Kracker did this song too!

  • Sound like old hillbillies! xD

But, they're one of the best bands still!

  • ringo recorded a version and if the stones did one ' Then just put them together

  • There's no Beatles on this, geuretalde. Change the title of this video now, please. There are enough liars on YouTube. Do you really have to taint Beatles history with this sort of bullshit that your 12-year-old contemporaries will grow up believing as fact? When I'm 64, I'm gonna be stuck in a world of 'Albert Goldmen', lying not out of greed, but of stupidity.

  • @reverendflash

Get your facts right, this song was sung by the stones first, and written by them for the beatles. therefore both have sung it learn some music itdiot.

  • @WORSHIPthekingELVIS

Get YOUR facts straight the Beatles never had a damn thing to do with this song, it was first done by Dobie Gray and was written by Mentor Williams. How bout YOU learn some music before you go on and tell other people whats what, or at least do a little research... Google's open 24/7 buddy

  • @kit1821

Thanks for backing me up. It's people like us that have to save rock 'n' roll from being slowly killed by people like them.

  • @WORSHIPthekingELVIS

Sorry, make that John Henry Kurtz who first recorded it, Dobie Gray the first successfully... see what I mean about google???

  • @WORSHIPthekingELVIS

Man, you can't even SPELL 'idiot'.

  • I'll still be sending you a valentine.

  • i came here because there was "the Beatles" in tag so i am asking you bastards

    WHERE ARE MY BUDDIES?...

    lol

    but i like stones too

but to be honest the original is better

    :)

  • well two of them are dead as hell and paul is still around somewhere and so is the circus guy ringo or what ever u call him

  • nope original is John Henry Kurtz

  • The original artist was not Dobie Grey it was John Henry Kurtz . The song was written by Mentor Williams and recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972, Grey released his version in 1973.

  • This is OK, but it can't hold a candle to the original by Dobie Gray.

  • Does anyone know who the Orignal artist is?

  • Dobie Gray

  • Genial!

  • great version, love it & the dobi one ,but like this better.

  • ghastly cod-American accent from Jagger. Awful awful version.

  • don't forget dobi gray

  • Comment removed

  • Drift Away is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz in 1972. However, Dobie Gray's cover is by far the most popular version. Among several...

  • @squirrellyme im pretty sure it was first recorded in 1967

  • @squirrellyme I especially like Dobie Gray's Cover. But I think my favorite cover is by Uncle Kracker.

  • @squirrellyme

Friend, thanks for pointing out my friend, that Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" kills it man!;-) Check Dobie out on youtube.com, mind you get the best rated performances, some cut off the song (annoying at end especially)...

    Keep er' Rockin' Man,

    R74Noble

  • @squirrellyme Uncle Kracker is the most modern

  • @CrazyDoesItGood no, Dobie Gray's version is also a cover

  • towards one of the last chourses in this song the harmonies go up and it does sound like Paul

  • who cares who started started Stones and Beatles theyre both amazing

  • i beg to differ this song i cant feel the passion like i can with the Dobie Gray's one or Uncle Kracker one.

  • Great song but i dont think the beatles are in this song and i think dobie gray wrote it so it is definitly a cover

  • your correct
