I came across the video just recently and I was amazed at how well-loved and respected Ronnie Drew was. Bono, of course, was center stage in all this but it's good to see so many other great Irish performers doing this song.

The only thing that bothered me was seeing Shane McGowan. He looks terrible. I saw him on The Henry Rollins Show and I swear the guy doesn't have any teeth left. For fuck's sake, Shane, go see a dentist!

Man, I LOVE Ronnie, but this song was just too bad to be a tribute. It was a handful of tired old fame-mongers peacocking their faces. The tune itself sounded cheap, whereas Ronnie's songs were gruff, "working class", and tinged with strange nostalgia.
