  • I'm not sure it it's supposed to be implied but I inferred from this song that it changes from him to his dad being the central 'character' at about the half way point, representing a mid-life crisis? As I said this is just my thoughts.

  • Now there are so many ppl who sound good in the studio but r rubbish live-frank is better live thn he is in the studio

  • He's such a phenomenal songwriter, and his voice is glorious on and off album.

  • How many people were here?

  • saw him play this with his band at his biggest headline show to date: Brixton Academy!!!!!!!!

  • I wanna sing his songs.

  • I wish he would do a tour one day of just re-visiting these songs, they're his best

  • @timmr002 he still plays em quite alot :)

  • im 20 and want a mohawk.. my mom wont like the idea but i don't care

  • the new boss

  • i saw him play with social d.. it was awesome

  • wow.

  • I saw this guy with The Offspring last year.. he's really fucking good :D

  • boss.

  • fantastic song, fantastic artist

  • Love this song but this isn't his best performance of it. He seems to be rushing through it here.

  • I fucking hate when amazing artists get famous so they can have people trolling on their amazing music videos. Frank Turner is truly an amazing Artist, if you don't like him, fuck off, simple as that.

  • this is my life, sept at 15 :) x

  • Today is Father's Day and I am 16, but I am yet to cut myself a mohawk...

  • @TheAlmightyRobinator Do it!!! It's the things you don't do you regret!

  • Great song, FT rocks.... \,,/

  • This is such a gorgeous song. So full of emotion, love hate. His voice is phenomenal! I think this is going to end up being my new favourite song for the next few weeks.

  • GREAT VID... hope you like the added music vid:

  • This song spells it out exactly how I am with my dad (apart from the bit about the mohawk, though similar circumstances rendered the same result).

  • and all the promises we made, they were painful and untrue..

  • i know its been said before but Frank Turner is a Genius and one of the best Singer/Song Writers ever

  • As people have said before this comment... I don't have this problem with my dad but I have seen people I care about so much go through this feeling and from what I can see frank just nails it on the head. Its remarkable how many people this could be related to in our society and I wish more people could hear Frank Turner because he's so underrated

  • this song makes me think of a neil young quote; "I giveenough facts to make people get a feeling-and then they can associate their own lives with these images that make it seem to apply directly to them. Like the song was written for them. They can't beleive it's so directly and obviously about their life. Thats because its not so specific that it eliminates them." I too think this song relates to my relationship with my father, but i know that its because of the above style of writing music

  • God this such a perfect description of my relationship with my father. That lyric about wondering who the hell he is... christ :(

  • My father needs to heart this song. It describes our relationship really well.

  • Gives me an oxymoron-styled smile seeing other people on here saying they feel this way. Isn't this song about his dad leading a double life throughout his childhood?

  • and you seem to think that this has only happened to one person in the world?

and that he just so happens to be a singer, and thus share this with other people?

man im soooooooo on your side on this one?

    jesus?

  • All I was saying is it's amazing that someone put this kind of child-parent conflict into a song so perfectly and how great it was that it appealed to so many people, despite being about a concise subject. I haven't experienced this situation with my parents, but I reckon the whole hypocritical streak kids feel is something almost everyone goes through. I wish I could write songs like this.

  • the insight in this song is fucking incredible, i think it can relate to a whole generation

  • My feelings put into a perfectly sad yet true song.

  • this song is quite ambiguous, if you think of it as in father's day its about him and his dad, but then you could think of it as frank making the same mistakes as his dad with his partner.

it really is an amazing song <3

  • Its interpersonal, which i guess is something which is why people are in love with his songs, tracks like isabel, wisdom teeth and casanova lament are similar in that respect. I think its the best live version ive seen of this song, though hoping he will play this Thursday :)

  • Christ ...this one hits hard ...

  • i hit your mother hard!

  • Yeah....she said.

  • shocking comment to just stumble across but definately the funniest i have seen today!

"lying through you're teeth, and every father's day spent wondering who the hell you are"

frank rocks my socks so hard! i feel honored to have shared a stage with him :)

  • Well yes but oh well lol

  • i AM Frank Turner... i win.. lol. that was a lie.

  • Relation is bloodbond... You can't claim to fame just because you happen to of been born into the same family as him, his fame comes from his amazing talent and beautiful brutal honesty. You beat no one.

  • Yeah, Sleep is for the week- Frank Turner. I got it in Fopp in Camden, get it off amazon or something

  • fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 'you choose to stave off grey hairs by lamely hacking at the sides with lies and flimsy alibis' amazing lyrics!

  • ANyone know the chords to this song HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP

  • With the capo on 3, the basic chords sound like Em, G, D, A on the intro and "When you got home..." bit, Em, G, A on the "You and I..." bit, and D, A, Em, G on the verse/chorus.

I think the Ds and As are actually mostly Dsus4s and Asus2s.

  • This sounds exactly like a "No Use For a Name" song - can't put my finger on which one. Not that that's a bad thing.

  • absolute genius

this is such a fantastic song

  • fucking brilliant

  • He has my guitar strap. The legendary fiend!

  • frankles! brilliant song,brilliant artist,genius?

  • he's my idol too, i think the whole point is the lyrics are as complicated as you make 'em

  • Started off sounding like Downbound Train by Bruce Springsteen, well the Nebraska outtake #2 of it.

  • by far the best frank turner song ive heard to date. i love the lyrics!

  • Frank is great... but the lyrics to some of his new stuff are terrible. Rhyming clippers with beard trimmer? Genius

  • supurb, not just a one trick pony, you've come into your own frank

  • great song i love this artist

  • mine as well lol

  • Fan-f'ing-tastic.

  • mine too
