I can't help but feel that the audience applause after every answer is detrimental to the debate process. The candidates should articulate their beliefs without response from the public- this would foster more honest answers to some very important questions because they would have to stand solely on the debate format and not external influence. Lacan put it well- the unconscious is not an internal entity, it resides in all that which the perceived individual is immersed in.
