What I love about David Gilmour is he comes out smiling and playing whilst Gary Glitter was an ass and Adrian Edmonson was scowling when they came out on stage. There was a picture of Roger Daltrey on his knees bowing (in "I'm not worthy" fashion) before David when David had his name announced at the end of the performance. Sorry Simon Townshend but David did great singing the part and adding his own twist to this and also Gilmour's solo here rocked.
Roger bails em out,,, ))) .. Dave tried his best, but its obvious by his delivery and almost slip,, that he never studied Who.. but he still rocks,, Love u dave
One of my favourite songs of one of my favourite band and in addition one of my favourite guitarists as special guest. Of course this is one of my favourite videos.
Me and my Brother went to this concert. We were only 22 and 18 at the time but are mods through and through. It's a way of life... great concert, cheers for banging it on. 'What do you mean gona be one of the faces... I am one of the faces' and like Jimmy, my fried egg makes me sick, first thing in the morning...
this sucks....needs Pete freaking out smashing shit. I saw this show in Vancouver. Hated it. Pete was there and did nothing but an acoustic drowned that was good. I was totally bummed...saw them in 2000 in Cleveland where I was completely restored to full fandome!
@chinochana Yeah, this tour came to Vancouver a little bit further down the road. Same approach to the songs....Pete on acoustic (that you couldn't fn'hear). It sucked.
At this particular Who show, Pete didn't play on this track nor "I've Had Enough" nor "Bell Boy". Out of The Who's guest on stage at this performance, only David Gilmour is a legend aside The Who. Gary Glitter is a one-hit wonder child predator. Adrian Edmondson wasn't famous outside the UK. Gilmour on the other hand was a member of Pink Floyd (whom had 5 US #1 albums, sold out tours and in 1996 inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame). Long live The Who and Pink Floyd!
Gilmour sang the verses the wrong way round but that doesn't matter. It's still an immense performance and his beautiful melodic guitar playing is a perfect counter to Entwistle's masterful bass line.
The day before at rehearsal, Gary Glitter picked up his microphone stand and swung it around hitting Roger in the eye with one of the three legs, quite by accident. I was just outside a gate, stage left, peeking through with binoculars. If I had only had the the video camera trained on the scene, I would have a bit of Rock-n-Roll history.
I couldn't tell, he fell down on the stage and was covering his eye with his hand until help arrived. I'm sure he must have been really mad at Glitter for being so reckless.
Can someone tell me where I can find this concert recording? Gilmour's singing and solo kicks ass. When I first heard it I said, "Gilmour's singing and solo kicks ass".
Pete always insists on having like, a bajillion rhythm and horn sections for Quad and Tommy stuff. Although they could never do this in their early years, Pete did mention at one point how it was always his intention to get practically a full orchestration together! LONG LIVE THE WHO!!
No it's Geoff Whitehorn who had also appeared on David Gilmour's ex-Floyd colleague Roger Waters' Amused to Death album as a rhythm guitarist. Gilmour did well despite the voice crack.
geoff is also an awesome lead in my opinion this tour went south when they let geoff go because simon blows at lead thats why pete started playing lead again lol the msg shows where amazing with geoff
Roger Waters even short changed Geoff on Amused to Death in favor of Jeff Beck. Geoff I think let David Gilmour play lead on the five numbers David did here. The reason David didn't do the Quad shows after Hyde Park as he and his wife just had a child the year before and he finished The Division Bell album and tour with Pink Floyd in 1994 and PF got in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few months before.
geoff was also briefly in bad company, one of the most underrated guitarist in my mind but i still think about how awesome it would have been for gilmour to tour with the who
Dav G's voice certainly adds a nice touch to one of my favorite Who songs

kanemura93 3 years ago
Gary Glitter put a mic stand into his eye during soundcheck. Quote Mr Daltrey - "If I'd have known then he was a nonce, I'd have killed him".
Leonmpj 3 years ago
Oh ok...what does "nonce" mean? :)
kanemura93 3 years ago
English slang for a child molester -I'm assuming you're aware of Mr Glitter's history? It obviously wasn't public knowledge at the time.

Oh I get it, Thank you!
