He was picked because they wanted one college player for that team, and I think Laettner at that time was voted the college player of the year.

isiah thomas should had been on that team...He beat Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. He won two championships. Pippen should had never been on that team along with stockton. Dominque, bernard king and even dennis rodman should had made that team. Anybody that felt that isiah should not had been on that team dong know basketball

it was the NBA + one and Laettner was the Best college player on the team that won the NCAA championship 2 x I think so who else should they have put on the team to represent? I believe Laettner to his credit knew it was luck to be on the team. He has nothing to be ashamed of. Chris Mullins put up the 3rd best #'s stats wise on the team and to me didn't get enough hype for being the stats wise 3rd best on the team. He had game high points once or twice and his out side shot on that team was key

On that team, they wanted to add one non-professional. The last two choices were between Laetner The collegiate player of the year, or Alonzo Mourning, fresh out of H.S in Virginia. Even though, Alonzo out played Laetner during those sessions, Laetner got the nod.....largely because of Coach K, being on the coaching staff.

If Shaq was on this team then it would not have had even 1 weak link, not that Laettner wasnt a good player he just wasnt great!

Christian Laettner: I just can't say enough about 'MY' team, we would've never had a chance if not for me being apart of this team. My favorite memory was during the Gold Medal game during Croatia, we were down one and Grant Hill inbounded the ball, and I hit the turn around jumper a the free throw line to win the game. MJ, Magic and Larry told me how great I was and that I was the greatest ever.

It's been my experience that you don't try to dwell on the past or imagine what could have been, for better or worse. Had the US team beaten the Soviets in 1972, we might have never had assembled the Dream Team in 1992.

I would have replaced Mullin with James Worthy and Laettner with Hakeem Olajuwon. Since Olajuwon didn't become a US citizen until later, Shaquille O'Neal would have been a better choice than Laettner. Who knows? They might not played as well together as they did. Let it be :)

Mullin played very well. He shot 14-26 from downtown. He was the perfect addition to the team in my opinion.

However instead of Mullin, Stockton and Laettner i had prefered Shaq, Wilkins and Thomas, that would have been a great Show!

Shaq wasn't in the pros until the next season and they could've used Shaq. There was a lot of attention on Shaq while he was at LSU. Chris Mullin was a decent player.
