I keep watching the episodes from seasons one and two, just to watch Gideon. i loved his character and was so dissapointed when he left the show, ah=lthough i can understand the reason for mandy patankin wanting to leave. however, i still miss gideon and wish he would come back for an episode, if only to explain everything to reid...but i know it isnt going to happen.so:(

I doubt what they broke into was the garage. If it was the garage they wouldn't break into, there would be more room for the car that was just in it & the light from the opened garage door would be hitting them.
But they broke into the room, the room was kinda like a craft room, had shelves & desks, and the only light was that of an artificial source, not the sun. =/ So i think they broke into like a workshop separate from the garage.
@butt2face2times It could be like safety issues or things they have to do like police or fire codes. Don't go calling the BAU dumb, well maybe a little. ;)

Its that since the garage door is part of the crime scene, they aren't allowed to enter or exit through that pathway, until the forensic measures are taken (Pictures, etc.). That leaves the other door, as the only way to gain entry into a non-active portion of the crime scene. So in the show's own way, they are staying accurate with law-enforcement rules and regulations.
