I like the use of the word Gyros. In broad terms without going in to detail. Gyros is prepared a la greek style with pork meat . With emphasis on pork. Whilst doner kebab is prepared in turkish style with either lamb or beef. Chicken is availabe in both gyros and doner.
From my knowing the greek word "Gyros" has the exact semantic meaning as the turkish word "Doner". Which means "spinning" or "turning"
@jibbjaboo No chance is this product refered to as Gyros in anywhere in the word bar America... Its just the Greek word for Rotating... The concept is a Rotating vertical Meat does not matter that its Pork Lamb beef or Chicken, its a doner Kebab... Its terrible in pork as pork drys and is tough and does not have the succulent taste of lamb. The guys in the video are no way turkish...
I don't know why they say Greek Gyros is the same as Doner Kebab...they are completely different...the way the meat is cut, the vegetables used, the type of pita, the spices and sauces, the way they are rolled..... anyway I like both....But in my opinion I love both.
@SirGeorge8600 The idea of Gyros came from Doner. And they are not completely different as you suggested to be. The way its made may have variations and that doesn't make it to be completely different. There are also variations of doner in Turkey. They don't all taste the same.
