While I am not against 50 zones, it is the way this general message has been applied to some of the most deserted roads and freeways in the World that gets me.

Why can a Czech driver do 160km/h right across Europe and here we are confined to 100 km/h. Its a joke.

29.5 mph to be precise. I don't want to be nasty, but there's something in front of a driver called the "steering wheel". When I see a kid on a street I slam the brake and try to avoid collision, not slam the kid and avoid braking like in the vid. One should adjust the speed to the conditions on the road, simple as that.

Sadly not. But the point is that you should be travelling at an appropriate speed just in case something like that happens. Then you can react to it.

In Sweden the speed limit is 30Kph within city limits. Since September 15 the speedlimits has changed nationwide so now we also have 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110 and 120Kph outside city limits.

we have recently had electronic slow down signs put up where i live..they r everywhere.

it cost the taxpayer 4 grand per sign for the council to put them up..and no one takes any notice of them..what a waste of money.

I've no issue with slowing cars down, I do have issue with the government only doing half a job and not educating parents to teach their children from a very young age, just how dangerous a road is.

With my own children, I used a hammer and an orange (the orange representing my sons obviously) to explain what would happen to them should they go on the road.

Shame no one told that woman to teach her kid.

Yeah, you're completely correct. The thing is, it is important to emphasise that drivers shouldn't speed willy nilly because it's always a pedestrians fault. Because it's not. A driver should always be in control and expect the unexpected. But kids really shouldn't be playing chicken with trucks :-)

I think people put too much emphasis on teaching kids - that alone isn't going to do it. Kids around that age don't always remember (or obey) what they've been taught.

Honestly, I think it's just as important for parents to closely supervise little kids playing outside. You wouldn't believe the number of neighbor's I've seen whose method of keeping tabs on their kids was to sit indoors, and occassionally look out the window. :(

Right, and in that instance, you wouldn't be at fault. But if you were doing 20 over the limit and a kid bolts out and there would have been room to stop if you were AT the limit, then it'd be your fault.
