Great video with interesting information. So that just means I'll never be accepted for who I am in America if they can't even get truly accepted in Japan either.
Not necessarily. The stigma of otaku in Japan is noticeably different here than they are in America. America and Japan are different nations, it would be unwise to use one culture to help judge another in relation to otaku.
the current prime minister of japan is yukio hatoyama. he's also admitted to being a manga fan, but he doesn't use it as a campaign tool or as an agenda as aso did. but yeah, otakus are crazy in japan. they are getting slowly accepted thanks to densha otoko showing their more positive qualities that they are loyal. a lot of women supposdly look to date otaku because they know they won't cheat on them.
I read that Densha Otoko was watched by like 25 percent of the Japanese population, some crazy high number like that. Can you image, something in the States being watched by 1 in 4 people?
I'm not saying that Densha Otoko and other martial like it isn't a factor, but like the old adage goes "money talks." And otaku spend A LOT of money.
pretty interesting to know, they're are actually a lot more otaku in japan than most people think...
