@metaled16 Maybe if I saw this on the street I would say he was a nutcase. But I'd say: "Look at that nutcase. He's a freakin' musical genius!" There's a lot more going on than just humming on a stage.
@metaled16 how just a simple thing of sitting on a stage can change our perspective from what is classified as a "nutcase" to a "artistic expressionist"
when i was a kid i used to sing to myself like this, and people thought i was being weird. now i think i was being special. :) could go on for a good half hour, to much annoyance of the surrounding folks. :) ::sigh:: should've gone into music.
If this man was sitting on the street doing the same exact thing, people would avoid him. Now that he's on a stage with a microphone and a couple Aquafina bottles, he's appreciated as a scientist and artist. Oh how the human race is beautifully flawed.
Have you ever heard of Joshua Bell? He's a world class violinist, he brought his 3.5 million dollar violin and played music at a subway station in street clothes. Adults passed him by, a random few would slow down to listen., even fewer would throw money in, only one stopped to listen. But the study found that children, would notice how beautiful what he was playing was.
@passwordpanda I don't think that is true. There are many people who would not avoid this guy if he busked. I have been approached by some real heavy hitters as a street musician.
@passwordpanda If I gave a speech on the street no one would listen. If I am on a stage and people are there expecting to listen to my speech, they would clearly listen. There is a time and place for everything. Doesn't make it flaw in that respect.
@bucktoofus he just wishes.. and you obviously don't know the difference between a hobo's "deedly-doos" and Mr. McFerrin's improvizations which by the way based on very hard work. you don't have a clue what music is, do you..
Yeah same here, except people actually waited for me to step out of the bathroom stall to "mean mug" me....unsophisticated brutes, they have no appreciation for my instrument
what kind of culture would u say that the first improvisational piece is most alike? I think its something like arabic... indian..? One of those middle eastern countries?
@theacorpse sing them yourself. Im sure everyone can perform something like this after learning some theory and techniques. I wouldnt wonder if he just made everything up while he jammed along
@Pestilence86 Please post a video of yourself doing something HALF as difficult as this and i wont say you're an incredibly ignorant douche bag for your previous comment.
@JordanCaiolaMusic Oooooh. You got me wrong. He is very good at what he is doing. Maybe he was good to start (Would mean he got talent) or he trained himself to become as good as that. But i am saying that everyone has the potential to perform something like this (Emphasis on "like"). I dont think it would be near as good as what he does. Also with "he just made everything up" i mean that it could be that he was improvising or jamming. (Btw: English is not my native language)

@pivotgurl i think i can distinguish a good/extraordinary street-musician i like from a "normal" street musicion.
you can often see crowds of people around the good ones though...
its all a matter of time and mood you are in.
