This movie has something in common which is the sexual feeling of a teenager man for a mature woman. Italy is the best sexual fantasy movie maker in Europe. I even laughed while watching some comedy on it and there are causes and effects through the drama of this movie.
This movie brought me to Ennio Morricone and I am very grateful. It was on German free TV late at night years ago and the whole ambience of the movie captured me. What a lovely soundtrack.
@Joeharv100 I would say that it doesn't mean much to be nominated for an oscar. Just remember that Ennio Morricone didn't win when he nominated for Once upon a time in America or The mission! They gave him the oscar for honorary achievement but never won competitively!
The anguish of this kid (Renato Amoroso)to be obsessed with Malena and can not play it,is a perversion of youth and at the same time a true love.I love so much this Film.God Bless the Italian Talent.
2nd time I see this movie in a while and I still love it. It is real life folks! It is all about "needs" and everyone there had a certain need. It is what it is and there are many unfortunate women in this world still that have to go that route. I'm not saying that I agree but it's life. I would also want to be one of the wives either!! She is beautiful and people loved her or hated / envied her. Great film and music!!
@TheOreoDisaster she didnt make men cheat on their wives. They did it themselves. nobody forces a man to have sex. trust me. she took advantage of her looks to get what she needed, not what she wanted. I wouldnt think it is easy to be a prostitute.i am not justifying her actions but still, at the same time, i am not judging thm. I dont agree on the actions of the women either. Nobody is righter/wronger than anyone else. The women coulnt keep their husbands in their homes. its partly their fault.
im not saying it is. but if you watch the movie, thats one of the main themes. Malena suffered because of the sexual desired from men and envy from women of the town. Within that society, it was a crime that brought her her troubles
her sin back then is to be a self- supporting modern woman who's deeply in touch with her sexuality and humanity . well, many like her today are still being condemned by society. i like rhe idea of a boy who's so in love with her, he sees nothing but her inner self contrary to what society says about her.
Your sin does not exist, his sexuality has nothing to do, the culprit is the envy of the people.
Malena's character esabierto not sexually but is forced to offer his body to survive without his father died, her husband allegedly killed in the war and the necessities of war, this film is no call for sexual liberation and if the power of envy and the superficiality of society.
i am deeply frustrated by the beauty of this film. i die every time i watch it. and the music? well....... it's a time machine that takes me back to my childhood memory... what a profound masterpiece....
@getoutofmyway01 thanks for that Ive been racking my brains for where I had heard part of this before and you have answered my question brilliant piece of music now I must see the film
that was so fucking sad when those ugly bitches ripped her to shreds in front of the whole town for no good reason. no one even helped her. I felt really bad for her then.

@susanedu What may I ask was her sin? What is sin, just those thoughts hammered into our heads as children. The sins of the father. There is only good.
the background music is beautiful and soothing to hear. Am I reading this proper: that "Malena" is a jezebel? In English, we say whore/slut .. I could be wrong. Everything is different in opinion
See the whole film! It's nothing like that! I think the film is as much for Renato's growing up, as for Malena's, ''the beautiful woman", struggle for survival in a (male) world which sees her only as an object of sexual desire. I think the film is about the platonic relationship between Renato and Malena, the only ''real'' one in the film and the sacrifices they both have to make to survive.
@Butterflies3Flowers but i dont understd why ppl thks shes the most attractive woman ??? whats special on her comparing to billions other women by far more beautiful nd mor natural
Well, it's only an opinion, but I'm guessing she has a natural beauty and I don't mean the fact that she's dark haired for most of the film. She's well-built. See the bit where the boys talk behind her, right at the beginning at the movie - they focus on the hips, the back. It's the primitive type of beauty - dark hair, good figure, plump lips. It's psychological attraction. That's the reason why people like Jolie, too. People like the type and she's a good example of it.

József Attila: MIKOR AZ UCCÁN ÁTMENT A KEDVES
Mikor az uccán átment a kedves,
galambok ültek a verebekhez.
Mikor gyöngéden járdára lépett,
édes bokája derengve fénylett.
Mikor a válla picikét rándult,
egy kis fiúcska utána bámult.
