Your vocals are better than ever. I'm afraid I would not be able to lift my leg like that without ending up in the hospital. LOL. Thanks for the memories.
Proof positive that Bobby swings as well as any of our American male swingin' singers. He sounds terrific on this performance. It's hard to imagine anyone doing this one better. He owns this one.
Bobby Rydell was the only one of the "teen idols" who had any real voice training. I recall seeing him back when I was 15 years old at Harry's Danceland in Latrobe, PA. He was good.
Bobby Rydell was the pride of all Italian-American kids in the early 60s! What a voice, what a delivery, what a doll! Enormously talented, I've no doubt he'd STILL have another hit record to add to his stellar collection of #1 hits if he released something these days!!! Love you, Bobby...thanks for making us proud! xoxox
@pamindoc You know, just watching this I thought this too. He should be out there singing to the public. I think his voice even sounds better than it did... more resonance... fuller..more maturity and virility, like a fine wine...truly! Bobby you most definitley still got it, only more!!
@SuperBrianm : Imagine a performance in front of a wonderful full orchestra
opening with YOU AND THE NIGHT AND THE MUSIC, plus SWAY, VOLARE,
FORGET HIM, BOBBY DARIN'S big hits, WALKING MY BABY BACK HOME, YOU'RE NOBODY TIL SOMEBODY LOVES YOU, SELECTED SINATRA SALOON SONGS, etc etc. Audiences numbering in the thousands heard it; those I surveyed think it was magnificent first class material. To me it raised the bar
Robert Ridarelli - AKA Bobby Rydell. By far - the most talented of the Philly 50's/60's era. I have seen him - maybe 5 times in concert. The most recent in Vegas about a year ago. A true class act. If he would have started performing in the 40's, he would have been just as big as Frank Sinatra. Seriously!! Sounds the same in 2009 as he did in 1961!
I'd love to see someone post Cha Cha Cha, my favorite Bobby Rydell song believe it or not. I totally agree that he is very underrated. The lead player in my old band gigged with Bobby years ago, and said that Bobby was one of the most talented people he ever worked with.
He has it ! voice...interpretation...showmanship. It was real surprise for me watching this and other youtube videos of his later career cause I had not seen anything he had done since Bye Bye Birdie....in which he was perfectly cast and he did well by the part. He should have been a bigger star .
Wonderfullllllllll Way to Go Bobby!!!! xx Love you. :-)

2:19 video: 1960 #4 hit "Volare" [Nel blu dipinto di blu; In the blue, painted blue] by Bobby Rydell [born 26 April 1942].
mkworkman 9 months ago
Yes, he owns this one and many other hits from 1959-1964 and last I heard he
can still sing them better than ever. There are hundreds of great standards that
only Rydell can do in his own unique way. He loves the stage more than the re-
cording studio as I understand the situation. Yet, my view is and has been that
his lasting legacy is as a RECORDING ARTIST. The homerun for him and, even
more importantly, his many fans is to step up and record, even if on stage. No
guts, no glory.

I worked with Bobby back in the 70s and I'm guessing this has to be in the 80s. He was since put on weight, but still sound good at almost 70.

Enjoy reading all the praise for our beloved Philly superstar Bobby Rydell
who continues thrilling audiences to
this day. With all your help and kind
comments you may help me encourage
him back to the recording studio. The
result could be the biggest musical comeback in modern history.

Sinatra got his big break in the 1940's
as singer for Tommy Dorsey's band. Much
later his voice weakened and he relied on
style. Put Bobby in front of a great orchestra, singing the all time great songs, let him do his unique magic and
interpretation, and you might appreciate
his true greatness, that in his modesty he
himself may not recognize. I saw Sinatra
perform at age 65 and Bobby at age 66
many times. He ranks with the greats in
my book.

Volare by Bobby Rydell released in 1960.
Charted at #4 on Billboard. This video
appears to be from the 1990's, but per-haps LUCKYMUSIC would be kind enough to clarify. This is Bobby's theme
song and this videoclip is proof of his
enduring talent and the pure joy he brings
to the music.

Bobby once performed in A.C. in front of
a great orchestra singing a few of his own
hits, but also honored Bobby Darin, Frank
Sinatra, and Dean Martin and sang some of their stuff. The guy has got to be one of
the greatest living singers and certainly
one of the most underrated. 50 years and
still going strong. Today's so-called super-stars can't touch him...and he's a
really nice gentleman to boot.

What can you say about a singer who can blow you away with Volare, melt the ladies hearts
with Forget Him, sing Bobby Darin's smash
hits to honor him, and croon Dean Martin and
Frank Sinatra songs as a world class vocalist.
One of the all time greats of the past and
PRESENT. Check out his website for show dates.
