I have this on 12inch, i genuinely think its one of the greatest songs ever made. My father is about to digitise all of his old peel cassettes, he must have 50 shows taped!
aah bang bang machine, went to see these in the liverpool lomax one summer (resitting an exam at university...) and a grand total of 8 people in the audience. Give them their due full set and they said it was like someone's birthday party.
I remember her when she got the gig as the singer, she was very shy and unsure of her abilities.... fast foward two years and she was one of the best of the 90s.
I've already posted the lyrics on someone elses upload of this song,i have the 12 inch vinyl bought it in the 90's after hearing it on john peels show and the lyrics go like this- waltz around her, waltz around her crystal mystery my dreamlets midnight gardener and the rose garden designer children papas roses janice, maple, clifford, fist apple and leona the lizard girl to love, but never to be in love never to be in love to be in love love I've never seen this video so thats for uploading it
Have never seen this band before, only heard this track on the old Annie Nightingale Sunday show years ago & couldn't work out why it wasn't a hit. I concluded the lead singer must look like a horse or something. I see now that this is so obviously not the case!!
She did work on the Evesham Journal newspaper at one time.. but that was bloody ages ago.. aint sure what she does now, but she married the bassist of the band.
Ihave just stumbled on this track via Bagpuss links and have hit a serious nerve!I adored this track and insisted on playing this when I made love for the first time.Every time I listen now I smell condoms and Joss sticks-Long live J.P and my memory for such a great track
He he, Jimmy Kid Records. He wasn't a pikey though, he was Deacs and he had ( and still has ) awesome dreads. I took that photo, one night after a big session at the Hummingbird in Brum. Shuffling about to the Wombles, Lol!
It was played to death at the local Indie Club in Warrington."LEGENDS" but its still superb..The Yanks have got an interesting band called "THE HALO BENDERS" look up "Virginia reel around the fountain"..on youtube you may find it sounds familiar
I'm not sure who they were to be honest.. I think they were from the 70's rather than the 90's. I used to know the singer of the punk group Satans rats (whose guitarist went on to form Bang Bang Machine) and he gave me the tape a long time ago..
wowee liz you look well hot on this video girl!!!!!!That book was great wasn't it? Its taking me back to the 90s just looking at it....those were the days! This is wicked ....I'm really sorry i was never big enough to tell you at the time. Better later than neverxxxxx
This was the first CD single I ever bought!! And I didn't have a CD player until 1995. I just LOVED the song - and the extended version is a much better and more satisfying version then the single edit. The Geek Love EP is one of my most treasured musical possessions. I was hoping to find the extended version somewhere on MySpace but alas not yet : ) Nice to finally see the whole video for the song. Thanks for posting it up. I'd only seen a wee clip before.. x
The heart on Elizabeth's forehead is a reference to the heart on Olympia's head on the cover of the GEEK LOVE book by Katherine Dunn. The roses on Elizabeth's dress and in the jars is also from the book.
The father(The midnight gardener) experiments with his children to create a family of freaks to make money.
He get's the idea from a rose garden and calls his children Papas roses.
David Hughes drew the covers for both the Geek Love book and the BBM album Eternal Happiness.
Just typed in John Peel to see what would come up,and this is a pleasant surprise.I've got this on 12" but haven't played it for years. Thanks for putting up the video.
believed to be one of the greatest song of all time nobody has ever heard, the original song is 9:20 minutes long. Great video. I don't think is THAT great (many people have called it the greatest song ever, and I wouldn't), but it's pretty darn good. You can get in on google since has been out of print since krsna knows when.

@marsamgod Yup. They did, The Did. There's a good Youtube mix up with some of their best stuff that's worth checking out. They're a real one off.

@ZenGangster Oh my there's even a facebook group, high time for a "Did" revival in my opinion, happy memories of a mis-spent youth in Cleeve Prior!

I remember seeing BBM at the Tivoli in Buckley (in the depths of north Wales) many, many years ago. She did the whole gig in a big red wedding dress.
tony7t2 4 years ago
Sounds cool.
Any pix?
A big red wedding dress?
smithdream 4 years ago
Well it certainly looked like one, and definitely red.
No pics though unfortunately :(
tony7t2 4 years ago
Liz wore a white "wedding" dress, veil and tiara when they did TECHNOLOGICA on THE WORD.
Check it out, it's just been added to youtube.
