@nodronald - The music at 6:40 is a mix of "Dream Catcher" by Ann Moore and "Ice" by Chris Blackwell. There's also a small portion of "Tympanic Membrance" by Yoni Gileadi in the background at about 6:55. "Ice" was also used behind part of the opening titles.
It's belongs to the history too that, without the Von Brau's german ingenieurs team the nasa wouldn't reach the moon and the soviet without the germans'reachers wouldn't reach the space!
there not going to shut down the ISS project as soon as its complete. That's insane, they still have loads to do with it. it just no more visits after the shuttle ends until their new launch vehicle is ready to go.
NASA, these camera angles are amazing. You MUST find a way to incorporate these shots into LIVE television coverage of the launch, especially those looking at the side of the Shuttle shot from the FSS.
@vava54own - actually those are Tyvek thruster covers. They are used to keep water out of the jet nozzles on the pad. They pull off during ascent via pocket pouches that inflate like little parachutes.
Wow and that's all it took 1,5 billion years of evolution and we're back in space in 10 minutes

8:28 What is that white floting around the external tank?
It looks big and to go relatively slow.
I'm guessing a small piece of ice but thats just my guess :s

What causes the charring on the external tank that you can see after it is separated from the shuttle?
mdr48371 1 year ago
@mdr48371: Its the separation motors on the SRB's that fire just after they seperate from the shuttle, you can see them firing at 5:32

Amazing...
I agree that NASA should show more of this type footage from launches! I hope I get a chance to see this in person before the program is over.

Best. NASA. Video. Ever!

Probably the most dynamic video to ever come out of nasa! Wish there were 6 stars! 5 ain't enough for this one.
They've been sitting on tons of footage like this for years and it's all gone to waste!

Is it condensation?

@vava54own
They are the covers for the windshields. They are forced off right after launch by the wind speed...

what happens to the rockets and the brown tank after they separate? do they fall back down to earth into the ocean or something?
jorge10928 1 year ago
The rockets parachute into the ocean and are recovered by the ships, but the external tank burns up in the atmosphere.
joshatkins94 1 year ago 2
@jorge10928 The two boosters fall into the sea with the help of parachuites later to be recovered by boat and re-used. The EXT Tank burns up.
silvereagle2061 1 year ago
Awesome! I never thought the EXT Tank would burn up... I thought it just fell back down to earth lol.
