It's amazing how ignorant are all this Apple Fanboys are. I work at Foxconn Texas and we always talk about the harsh working conditions and the suicide rate over at Foxconn China. it's ridiculous for someone to die for my ipod...
@msparis275 hp, asus, acer, htc, dell and many more have working conditions much worse and they have admited it. what did they do to correct it? nothing at least apple is working on. no, apple should not be ashamed
Maybe Apple should spend some of cash mountain on its exploited Chinese workers. Cooks memo doesn't help it's current image, being defensive and a bit inflammatory towards journalists is not a good start for the new CEO. If he can't resolve the issue I hope he steps down or else those clean white iPhones are going to look dirty.
Apple passively cares about its Chinese "workers" as much as they can get away with. The level of their interest in the workers heath and safety is equal to the amount the average consumer cares.
If people start caring about this issue then Apple will do more and make a honest effort to seriously stopping some of the more borderline inhumane practices
@PromotingTheBeat .... i hear you but apple products aren't even competitive with other chinese produced notebooks. in fact given that apple's notebooks have the same basic design (either Air, Macbook, or Pro) then economies of scale kinda dictates at minimum apple should have competitive pricing .... but the similarly spec'd PC notebook beats Macs in pricing by hundreds. so if I'm not going to get a cheaper notebook then you should bring those jobs back stateside.
Often the people at the top don't even realize all the problems that can run down the hierarchy. Even the big bosses are only human and they can't be everywhere at once, can't always see the whole picture. I think that there probably were violations in the plants, but I also believe Cook and Co. will probably work now to fix any problems there were.
Especially seeing how many billion in savings they have to spare... They can afford to totally renovate a few of those factories, lol.
Ppl cry about no jobs yet they have a full house full of crap from china. irony... But sad part is that Chinese living in the US are all about apple knowing their own ppl are dying to make those products.
They're not specifically Apple employees. Why is no one asking IBM or the other tech company's who use Foxconn about what they're doing to address worker conditions.
That being said Apple does have a responsibility towards them and I believe is doing their best.
95% of all the tech we get in the west is made in that region so has anyone inspected all those factories too?
@jonoascale business: want to succeed? think about your self and your profit. F*ck everybody else. Best thing they'll do is to make it look like they are doing something about poor working conditions.
@Cepera540 Exactly. This has been going on for years but now that it has been reported on now they are doing something about it...though they are just saying that and when this dies down nothing will have changed.
When asked about why Apple doesn't bring manufacturing back to the United States from their Chinese sweatshops an Apple spokesperson was quoted saying:
“We [Apple] don’t have an obligation to solve America’s problems”.
In response:
"I’ll bet that the guy who says Apple has no obligation to help Uncle Sam does strongly believe that Uncle Sam has an obligation to stop foreign pirating of Apple’s intellectual property."

Why does apple have these jobs out of the united states?
Could it possibly be because they can get away with these practices?

You want low prices? the companies have to hire low priced workers.
You want products to be made in America? Then be ready to pay 1,000+ dollars for a iPod,phone, etc.
