Hate to say it but on this one, Michael, you are betraying a rare Southern bias. from DPIC summary "From 1995-2000, 42% (287 out of 682) of the federal cases submitted to the Attorney General for review came from just 5 of the 94 federal districts. " Even New Mexico has finally outlawed this barbarism.
The reason why I'm against the death penalty is because I don't want to be like the people you want the death penalty applied to. I don't want to be scum and I don't wan't to be a murderer.
The death penalty is premeditated murder. If a group of men kept another man in a cell and then took him out and shot him, you would call it premeditated murder because that is what it would be. And that's what the death penalty is.
??? oh, im sorry, i guess i thought this as a PROGRESSIVE talk show.
oh well. just shows how much the dems and republicans are two heads on the same capitalist beast.
hey pap, i guess you miss the point all together. why would you want to give the state the power to decide who lives or dies??? and why the hell should you decide who lives or dies?
In order to make the Death Penalty palatable to those willing to accept it, the Justice Department spends tons of money. This way, they claim they go through a complete review that should not be challenged.
But, plainly no human being, no matter who, has the right to take away a life.
I agree with Life in prison as the right alternative, but please no more State Killings.
You miss the main point of being against the death penalty, and instead focus on the much less important reason that Faux Noise blathers on and on about...
The main argument IS NOT the cost, IT IS THE INACCURACY and WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN.
We both know the courts ARE NOT 100% accurate in their judgments, 80% would be GENEROUS. But for argument lets call it 99%.
Do you want to be a party to KNOWINGLY KILLING AN INNOCENT PERSON for every 99 murderers killed?
I rarely disagree with you, but this time I believe that you are totally off-base. Nothing is accomplished by the state acting in an inhuman manner and escalating the violence in our society. The death penalty is barbaric. I'm a Catholic, and our faith stands against the death penalty. Jesus Christ did NOT die for nothing: ALL men are capable of eventual redemption, and it is for no man to take the life of another--no matter how heinous--in his hands.
i live in a country with there is no death penalty i feel safer since my government won't kill me by mistake.

I have never heard the cost argument. I can only imagine its cheaper to kill someone 10 years earlier than they would have died.
Accuracy IS a very important issue. As mentioned 1 innocent for 100 guilty is not worth it.
I'm pretty sure it is also best to not give the state the legal power to kill its citizens.
Only the poor who can't afford the lawyers or who killed a couple of people rather than 1000s get the death penalty.

If so, how are you DIFFERENT?

The death penalty doesn't stop violence, it is especially useless against terrorists who think they're doing God's work and want to be martyred.

So if we caught Osama bin Laden you would keep him alive?
Sometimes the death penalty is warranted.
KBonemusic 2 years ago
Yes I would keep him alive. And on public display. Put him in a cell with transparent pope-glass walls, and sell rotten eggs/tomatos next to it.
Let the fucker live out the rest of his days seeing the faces of the people whose lives he has ruined.
Sandwiched right between Bush and Chenney.

bin laden is dead already

Humans also have bloodlust in their nature. That's what the death penalty's about. Rise above? No, stoop to their level.
