Here's the REAL meaning of the story:

Mario and Luigi are going to eat the PRINCESS for a PICNIC. So Mario asks LUIGI how they should prepare her, to which Luigi says she should be made into SPAGHETTI. Unfortunately, Mario interrupts the picnic by telling LUIGI to look at a door he mistakenly says is BOWSER.

In the letter tacked to the door, though, Bowser says that the PLUMBERS and the KOOPALINGS are all citizens of the MUSHROOM KINGDOM.
