I'm sorry, saying the US version is terrible is a sin. But no, it's just impossible for them to both be brilliant. Why do people feel they have to fucking choose? Wankers.
Oh god, I want to cry every time I watch the montage at the end. The Office means the literal world to me, and Tim and Dawn's kiss at the end has got to be the most touching moment in all of television history.
@evelynjoyce Give it a go. The first couple of episodes are rubbish because they're trying to copy our one too much but get past that (and trust me it's hard to get past that) the US Office is really, really good.
People miss the point when they compare the two. They are two completely different styles of sitcom; ours is subtle and real to life, the US is more like a traditional sitcom.
Look I appreciate the fact that this one came first and a lot of the jokes are rehashed on the American version...but I just cannot fathom how people would find this funnier than the American one. So dry, compare the British and the American "Jello" part...worlds apart.
@Mission7608x2 That's the point. British humour is more dry and subtle. Plus a lot of the humour from our one comes from the fact it is more realistic and not wacky like the US one.
I prefer our one of course but the US one is really good as soon as the characters get into themselves and move away from the original characters. For example, the whole crutch of Brent was that he wants to be seen as a great entertainer and philosopher, Michael Scott is just lonely and desperate to be loved.
He said "I told him once I don't like jelly" I can see how you made that mistake though, listen again coz you probably can't hear the right line now as you're so used to the wrongun
what does gareth mean when he says 'I told him once I'd done my jelly' at 1:52? Iv watched that episode like 20 times but i dont rle get what he means
This is pure genius and 1 of the greatest comedy programmes ever! Having said that, the American office started slowly but has overtaken the British 1 and is better
@metalheadjay666 you can't have seen the American Office, I know countless people that have said 'the American office is shit, no where near as good as the Brithish one' then i ask them if they have actually seen it and they say 'no.' My point is they're ignorant. I myself didn't watch it for ages because i thought it would be shit but it is a masterpiece of comedy and Michael Scott is the greatest comedy character EVER. Do not reply unless you've seen at least the first 4 seasons!
@gibz9000 you said american office had started out slowly but now it is better than the UK office. I love the American office but it has gone downhill and now is shitter than the UK Office, which I also love. That is what I meant
Best comedy ever. I can't watch any remakes because they are straight sitcoms and don't capture the nuances of the original. The casting was out of this world and the subtleties of emotion and irony were amazing. It wasn't a laugh out loud gag line comedy which is why it didn't appeal to those who are less sensitive to something that goes deeper like the original Office. But if you can sense the emotions of love and loneliness and desperation you will understand what makes this so superior.
They hit it right on the head. No zany antics, just brilliantly finding the humor in the mundane. These two will go down in history as some of the greatest comedy writers of all time. Where are the insults NOW Dickers?!?!?!?!
If you're reading this Ricky, this is the greatest fucking show ever created...you keep your head down..few years time....you could be in the hot seat
@hampson1 Don't forget the Office in America that's a pretty good show... For dumb redneck bastards who have no intelligence on humanity nor humor. Thank you and goodnight.... I feel disgusted with the lie i told in the first sentence.. commits suicide.
My the office first season was production fail.. Christmas special came inn the second episode after 18minutes.. Had to buy a new one!! wouldn't even change it for a new one!! bolocks!
@rob1969in I'd say that in the race for best sitcom it's between; Blackadder, Fawlty Towers and The Office. As far as characters are concerned Brent is up there with Baldrick, Blackadder, Melchett, Basil, Manuel and Alan Partridge.
ahh Smerch ♥

its funny to think while watching this - how many people still think the US version is superior.
Does every other country with a version of The Office think their's is superior? I think not. The original is the best!
