  • Commies.

  • Commie bastards - The free market is the only way to solve problems. Get out of our way government regulations. Get out of our way socialists - commie progressives. Get out of our way tides foundation and soros. The engine of any good economy is a free market system not government control and manipulation. Say the Pledge of Allegiance, mean it and cut the crap. marxism, socialism, naziism and communism will kill every one and all creativity. It will turn all into slaves once again. you slave

  • @RubiconCountry You're horribly ignorant. A free market will allow us to form an elite that rules it, simply because there's no government to prevent them from doing so. Why the fuck should producers and corporations compete with each other when together they can just as well control the entire economy, and with no one to stop them? Ignorant, right-winged twats like you fail to realize that the government IS THE PEOPLE, and the only way for the people to have any power IS THROUGH OUR GOVERNMENT!

  • @RubiconCountry well said

  • much love for this film

  • Watch these, Annie. /watch?v=c5uJgG05xUY&feature=channel

  • Why is it so cheap? Its called mass production. Quit trying to make capitalizm the bad guy.

  • Amazing that anyone finds this video remotely rational. Has public education completely brainwashed everyone of critical thinking skills?

This video is simple communist propaganda, entertaining only to those with a Matt Damon level of intelligence.

  • @AtlasObjectivist ahahahahahahahahaha!!! sorry i was reading the comments here..and then i saw yours..ahahahah! i heard about people like you in USA complitely brainwashed..but never really saw them...probably you are dumb.

  • @junkyfunkyboy you are an embarrassment.

  • big business doesn't calculate the cost to our health or environment...carbon taxes will be a start but china won't do it...

  • Simple solutions:

Trucks carry lots of radios, not one.

China is a psuedo communist nation that underpays its workers, reducing costs.

Once again, underpaid workers in México.

  • dumbass bitch, it's called bulk purchases

They're not making 1 radio, it's millions of radios

  • @jujuria13: dumbass numskull stupid freak! of course it was bulk purchased. The real issue is that the cost of the radio is a testament of how cheap the process of production it underwent; meaning those motherfucks who made it possible for it to cost 4.99 dollars utilized labor exploitation, less regulations from the govt., and raw material exploitation by devaluation! So suck ur own cock and be ur own bitch!

  • @radkubu1 you don't know shit about economics. 4.99 dollars isn't a small amount for someone living in India or China, you're only viewing it from your dimwitted perspective. People in third world countries are able to survive on less than a dollar a day with minimal impact ontheir environment. While you're moaning and bitching about the injustice of corporates making off with money they earn from people like you. Just stop buying shit then.

  • @jujuria13 don't preach to me things about "people in third world countries" coz im living in one.. let me tell you something about this 4.99 dollar radio ok? Get one and then grip it firmly and then shove it up your ass! The human exploitation, pollution, and resource robbery it represents can never be paid.. and yes i stopped buying shit from big corporations long time ago? u dont think its possible right? coz you have a scrotum for a brain!

  • @radkubu1 fuck you, I can get one cheaper than 4.99. And if you have a problem with how the real world is, then go fuck yourself and get lost in a forest in Brazil somewhere. Oh wait, you're already living in a shithole 3rd world country, so I suppose that's torture enough. Yeah, u stopped buying shit, and somehow u still own a computer? You know how much more toxic and deadly the parts in the computer is to the environment than the radio. Ur such a hypocrite cunt.

  • @jujuria13 yeah i have a problem with the present global situation.. its FUCKED UP by the kinds of you people who thinks that the world is just fine.. wait till your place gets fucked up too and lets see how glad you'll be in this "real world as it is."

  • radio shack sells radios?

  • @jeremy915111 Donuts are better

  • okay so I guess for the real value she would pay what 15-17 dollars for the actual product, Sorry nothing is gonna change, We will be consumer driven until the system collapses. Look around kids buying more crap each day .

  • We are consuming the planet, watch surplus the documentary

  • Please watch zeitgeist addendum on zeitgeistmovie dot c o m , it contains the real solutions!!

  • @darkchakra123 I'm actually about to e-mail them and ask if they are aware of The Venus Project. To me, it is the only real solution to these type of problems. All these little movements and organizations but NONE of them are addressing the ROOT causes of the problems. They seem to only deal with the symptoms.

  • EXACTLY

  • what is the venus project

  • @Neoomegasonic Go to google video and type zeitgeist addendum and click on the first result you see and watch that documentary. The Venus Project is featured in it.

  • > Pure Bolshevik dribble.

    > For the real story search YouTube for "Me Is Mine, You Is Yours"

  • I do feel sorry for the poor Mexican kid. My mother in law never had a refrigerator until my wife bought her one not long ago. Didn't really need it she said. She had to go shopping every day for things that wouldn't last in the heat. I couldn't realize being raised the way my wife was, but they didn't know anything else. When was the last time you paid $20 or $25 a month for rent?

  • I'm so sad by all the people falling for Glen Becks propaganda! This is a great video and it teaches all the things i've been teaching my daughter for years. Stop falling for the media driven bs, and research this yourself... you'll find it all to be true.

  • Our country only has 4% of its trees left......she forgets that god gave the trees the ability to reproduce asexually through seeds....

  • I hope that all the Marxists that feel guilty for giving that poor mexican a salary (of .15 cents a day) all live in log cabins and eat only what they hunt...

Oh wait Libs are against cutting down trees, eating meat, and hunting....

  • Wow. It is amazing that the Tides foundation was able to put this thing together wihout getting one claim even close to true. It is even more amazing that so many people don't spend the brief amount of time necessary to debunk the entire thing and check out the anti-american, marxist source. A textbook piece of propaganda that Goebbels would be proud of..

  • i pray for your soul

  • A very well made piece of propaganda. Chavez would be proud!

  • what total crap

  • This is such an excellent video. The only people who oppose Annie Leonard's theory are the people who stubbornly believe that we can continue on our present consumer-driven course.

  • Wow, what an excellent video. Outstanding. We are brainwashed into believing a pack of lies about the true cost of products. I often wonder about such things. Like the cost of Gas. Everyone complains about the price and yet it occurs to me that greed has tainted the true cost. We are not paying for the damage to the earth, or the people who are displaced, or for the ragged wounds upon the planet. Just get the gas and go. There will come a time of payback, and I suspect it will not be pretty. 5+

  • so why is it referred to marxism and communism for being a good person and to recycle and compost. Well if you may refer to living within your means as being a communist, then i can only assume you are addicted to the shopping experience. buying things makes you happy, your self worth is determined by your pair of designer jeans, and not only are you bad for the environment you also probably have a high credit card bill and low credit score, but who cares, enjoy your flatscreen tv ;)

  • Isn't it called Economies of Scale?

  • He who has an ear let him hear

  • Can she be Obama's trash Czar?

    What a whack job.

  • Its hilarious that this absolute hack job is being pushed in the skrool systems.

  • brilliant

  • I think this is good stuff, all those who don't like it suck, mentally retarded...

  • Comment removed

  • after watching this i think i have lost all hope..... idiots.

  • Price of 4.99 versus REAL price. Note 0 extra taxes for people

Should be added: (numbers made up, just the concept counts)

    - making radio smart way so it CAN be recycled + .5

    - making radio in factories not polluting air, water, etc. +.5

    - making package of radio with degradable material so it can ENRICH land, not pollute +.5

That's all I can think of.

+$1.50 ... would you go bankrupt? Of course not. Only $1.50 because of economy of scale indeed!

But why not? Because it's easier not to.

  • Pay more for stuff...uh, good to know?

  • Geniuses,

    First, schedule a vasectomy.

Second, realize that this video is not an example not understanding economies of scale.. It is about how the total manuf cost of a good is not paid for solely by the manufacturer.

The radio's plastic shell. Why was it so cheap? B/c China has lax or non-enforced industrial pollution laws. So instead of paying to dispose of the toxic plastic byproducts, he dumps them in a river. Eventually, the govt or people pay to clean it up.

  • We might as well stop doing anything

sit in a hole and died......boy does that sound like FUN!!!!

  • Wow, if this makes sense to you, you are beyond saving.

If they were making one radio, then of course the price would be greater than $4.99, but they are making tens of thousands of the things.

  • Would someone tell this stupid commie bitch about economies of scale.

  • Economic of scale? That' s not the same thing you stupid person. ( see it is not hard to call someone stupid).

Economic of scale is to take things and if you do many of them, have large quantity, the price per item is lower.

But what she is talking about it is that the staff they take, regardless of how much of it, is not truly paid for. say they produce 1 million items by cutting forest down. true cost of the forest, then pollution, etc. is not accounted for! We are running out of resources!

  • 1. It's not "economic" of scale, it's "economies" of scale, stupid rat commie bastard.

    2. EVERYTHING is taken into account when determining the price of a good. It's called supply and demand, dumb commie shit.

E.G. If we are really "running out of trees" then the SUPPLY of wood would be low and its price would skyrocket. That supposed $4.99 radio is cheap precisely because all the resources that went into it are abundant.

  • The ugly marxist harlot in that video wants to make the price of goods artificially high by imposing taxes on things like wood, lowering everyone's standard of living.

I hope i educated you on the issue, brain dead leftist dog.

  • If this my post, I would take little people like you out or blocked.

    4.99 is cheap only because

    1) -the cost of this toxic box disposal later on is not added to 4.99

    2) - pollution of air, health problems associated with toxicity of it, is passed to others, not included in price

    3) slave labor

    4) oil used for production subsidized by army (cost of army not in price of radio)

    Our accounting SUCKS!

You are like many here 2,3 years ago defending GM. Like fish, calling names, all you can do.

  • 1. It's called recycling and it's very cheap.

    2. What pollution?

    3. What slave labor?

    4. The US army subsidizes petrochemicals China uses to make plastics? Do tell, retard, do tell.

  • The plan of the neo-Marxists is as follows: Create the illusion of a crisis where there is none. Then us that crisis to increase the size of government, taxes, socialist programs...etc. In the case of this $4.99 radio nonsense, they probably want to impose a plastic tax on the consumer.

  • I am not going to discuss things with a person who offends the other side. Get your own Rush Limbo show ...

From your post, clearly you are so angry and living in some conspiracy theories of "neo-Marxists" ...

You should ask some of the old way of thinking Chrysler and GM people who also used to be very afraid of innovative way of thinking ... ask them how they feel about their cars, jobs today ...

Recycling, but isn't that "neo-Marxists" concept? I bet it was just 10 years ago ..

    Gee! Wow

  • unintelligible gibberish

  • Oh wow, you don't know what pollution is, O Smart One.

*loudly*Hey, everyone! This guy doesn't know what pollution is!*loudly*

  • It's called economies of scale. Jesus enviros and their lackiers are troglodytes.

  • I totally agree, they have missed the point that it is called economies of scale. However, we have employment standards in the west where we sell the product that is produced in the east where we don't have such standards and exploit their workers (by western standards) is that right? Discuss, cos I am not sure

  • I just watched the short movie.

It was very good. Slow in the beginning but very interesting.

    And scary.

  • Blame George W Bush.

and all the previous governments that allowed Wal - Mart and etc stores to be here...

  • Come on, MORON, use your head for something besides parking your hat backwards.

  • money is the root of the evil.

  • The actual quote is, "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil."

  • actual quote from what?

  • The bible

  • You are correct and in the right tract Godzilla. It is ridiculous the system in its totallity. I had to replaced the motor in my furnace and they took motor, housing, and fan to the garbage, when all it need it were new bearings. No consideration as to how much energy it took to produced the whole thing, how much pollution, how much resources. The only explanation it's "Cheaper" to replaced the whole thing. We need to change this, the planet will go on, but we will not.

  • MADE IN CHINA!!

  • WE WILL ALL PAY, ALL OF US, BELIEVE ME.

Consider the consequences to the lives of people and animals.

Cancers and allergies are on the increase.

Yep we will all pay for that cheap bastard radio.

  • we've got a shop called PRIMARK you can buy items for £1. How so cheap?

Exploitation: of underpaid workers mainly children in the third world

    of forests and land

use of unsafe technology and chemicals

At one time people repaired items now it's cheaper to buy new

    BUT

    is it moral?

Do we care about the impact our consumerism is making on the globe and its inhabitants?

  • The earth from which the petroleum was mined from did. :).

  • wtf?

  • Help by being vegan....

  • cool vidio dude

  • capitalism have generated an criminal order which manage the whole world as this cartel wants, nobody escape from this mafias, 'economic' theories or such a thing to try to justify capitalism are all just fallacies, to define capitalism you can use only one word: CRIME!.

  • Yah. And you dont care about little poor childrens whose got moneys from this Radio?

  • the whole reason of the video, its because that she cares with that childrens...

    think outside ur lil world.

  • Caring about stuff doesn't necessarily fix or improve them.

  • See the problem its a great step towards a solution....

  • 1)who said that? what we're talking about is sensitive consumerism. we're talking about farmers markets over supermarkets. we're talking about where we must have corporations to deliver us goods we can't get locally, we must have controls & a consciousness.

2)tell that to the people on the production side of everything you frivolously buy

    3)drugs are bad

  • umm...im 14 and i cant understand a thing you guys are talking about...i understood the video though...=| so im just gunna go play on my playstation....lol.

  • are you proud of your stupidity?

    check the film idiocracy!

people like you is gonna conquer the world!

  • I'm glad someone else is noticing the way human intelligence seems to be going!

WhosChase definately has a massive IK, and will konker the World with his Playstacion mates, by the way I loved Idicracy, but I think it might have a true point.

P.S in case he doesn't get it IK, konker and Playstacion is taking the piss(taken from the Oxfurd Koncis Diktionary,25th Century edition).

  • We need to live like the Ewoks in Star Wars. Everyone lives in a tree house and grows their own food. :)

  • LOL yea :)

  • You know what you can ignore 90% of the scientific community, you can ignore record temperatures and storms, you can ignore high gas prices, you can ignore unjust invasion of oil rich countries. But, what you cannot ignore is out OBSESSION with stuff. I mean its on a daily basis. Buying things is sooo important to us.

  • omigosh, what I think this world needs, especially the United States is to take ownership of what they (people) create, example, "well, if she wasn't hanging with her, she wouldn't be in jail" or I wouldn't be fat if McDonalds didn't have all that fattening food!!! Maybe some people need to go to that quiet place to think things out before acting, speaking. I'm not saying I disbelieve or believe in Global Warming, but are you sure it's not a natural occurence to some extent? Recycle!!

  • Thats true people do need to take responsibility but there is a such thing as corporate responsibility. People are better equiped to be responsible if they know whats going on.Why do you think mcdonalds doesnt put all of their ingredients and calories on their meals. Its just the same with the companies not telling you how their products are produced. You can chane what you dont know.

  • In fact, our equities are liabilities to our children and grandchildren ... but unfortunately, money has become our God and in order to serve it we won't return any value to them ... shame on us !

  • Resources are finite, human ingenuity is not. By allowing governments to control the market we destroy our single most valuable resource, the human mind. That's the problem we are facing, not some stupid trees (which, by the way, profit from e.g. the paper industry).

  • You are correct the human mind is not finite. Why is it that an infinite mind cannot find a solution to a finite problem? If we have this gift of human enginuity why cant we use it to both create and heal ? If you ask me creativity that kills is not creativity.

  • Force destroys the mind / free choice / creativity. An 'infinite mind' can't overcome force. The only answer to the initiation of force is retalitory force.

In the case of e.g. the radio the problem is not the producers but the governments who enslave their people themselves or do not use retaliatory force against those who enslave.

The question is who has the responsibility for other governments. I say the people of those governments because they benefit from it.

  • The problem with that is the corporation and the govenment have become one . The people with the money are the people who run the gov . A government who is getting million and millions in contributions is rarely going to forsake that for morality if they dont feel it directly effects them. As for it being the people of that countries fault should the people of new orleans have stormed the white house post katrina ? Theyre not armed to fight against an army.

  • That's why we need capitalism. As soon as the government steps in regulating the economy companies will try to influence government so that it regulates other companies (or people respectively) to their advantage.

  • The capitalist system is what has gotten us to this situation in the first place. Why would you say we need more of the problem to solve the problem. Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is insanity.

  • I am speaking of laissez-faire capitalism not crony-capitalism / statism. People vote for the state having power over the economy and the companies use that power to eliminate competition. That's hardly what you can call capitalism.

  • Fair enough im still not a fan of the capitalist system but i can certainly deal with it if the crony factor were removed. My problem is money/gold etc are without funtion we should be exchanging things of value for things of value. The natives had the best concept of wealth to me .

  • Money is not wealth. By printing money you don't create wealth.

Wealth is created by trade, i.e. I concentrate on doing job X while you concentrate on doing job Y, we exchange our products and have more than we would have if we both did job X and job Y.

In laissez-faire capitalism there would be no state-mandated monopoly currency, i.e. no legal tender. The market would decide how people want to exchange their products, not some scientist or bureaucrat using governmental force.

  • So then do you propose eliminated money altogether if it has no power to create wealth and you recognize that? Shouldnt we just trade goods period ?

  • I propose to remove the force from the market. I don't want to force people to use or not to use money. It's not my business how other people trade.

  • Ah, Adam Smith.. One problem with laissez fair capitalism is that it assumes markets will automatically correct their own bad behavior (the buyer's will switch when the product is bad), and it assumes loose markets are better than regulated markets. But, I believe oversight is necessary, because without it, the roller-coaster ride can be self-destructive (Enron anyone?).Better to have an honest government, to set fair rules, and have oversight. An economic engine ungoverned will self-destruct.

  • Define "bad behavior".

The proper role of the government in the market is to enforce contracts and determine what constitutes a contract. Capitalism does not mean that companies can for example willingly use poisonous substances in their products without warning the consumer.

That capitalism will self-destruct is an unfounded claim.

On the other hand all government controlled economies have sooner or later self-destructed.

  • capitalism destructs when wealth consolidates. Consolidated wealth via hedgefunds and derivative schemes moves markets, bankrupts banks, goes to war and spins media coverage.

  • Capitalism bankrupts banks?

  • capitalism can be undermined by consolidated wealth, and the power that consolidated wealth can have on industries, including banking, as we're seeing. Hedge funds are unregulated and a form of consolidated wealth moving markets and affecting industries. Capitalism isn't the greatest thing on the planet when you consider its premise of consumption. The hippies did have one thing right.

  • - Capitalism is a political system wher the state recognizes the right of the individual for the fruits of his labor and for the right to use his property (and his body) as he wishes (if he does not violate the property rights of other individuals).

So how can such a system be "underminded" except by a collective will (i.e. politics) to no longer recognize individual rights?

    - The premise of Capitalism is production

  • In theory, production and distribution in a capitalist system are governed by the free market rather than state regulation (WIKI). There is no need for either if there is no use of the end product via consumption.

Technically its an econ not poli system. The reality is that domestic economic policy is dictated by the Federal Reserve and subsequent corporatism dictating what is available for consumption, and their lobbyists pumping money into politics undermine democracy.

  • In theory production and distribution are governed by the owner.

Technically capitalism IS a political system because it restricts the government's ability to use force against individuals and their property.

The current system (in any country including the US) is a mixed system, not Capitalism. There shouldn't be a Federal Reserve bank in the first place.

  • LIE! no matter how good your government is, in the end you are the consumer. it is YOUR responsibility to choose right what you buy. For example, if i put a $ 0,40 and a $1,30 bananas in front of you which one would you choose?

people (even in switzerland) keep buying chiquita's fruit knowing all the misery, war, and exploitation of people and nature they cause, instead of buying from fair trade companies (which end up also exploiting people in a + resposible way)they buy 3 intead of 1.

    gtz!

  • I am speaking of laissez-faire capitalism not crony-capitalism / statism. People vote for the state having power over the economy and the companies use that power to eliminate competition. That's hardly what you can call capitalism.

  • I.e. I'm speaking of a fantasy much like the Marxist and thus I'm using the "no true capitalist argument."

  • Capitalism began with state interventionism i.e. the forceful selling of the commons and guild lands to the aristocratic/capitalist class and then began an era imperialism under Elizabeth. Capitalism is interventionism!

The entire purpose of the corporation is government protection for an investor class so they are not directly liable for externalities. Alciadanet, I suggest you read a free-market anarchist like PJ Proudhon rather the Austrian Royalists like Mises.

  • When talking of Capitalism I mean Laissez-faire Capitalism.

I do not defend statist big-government capitalism with no absolute individual rights.

And I'm reading Ayn Rand, not Mises, although the Austrian school is related to Objectivism.

  • A perfect example of why "JACKASS - The Movie" was such a big hit with this crowd.

  • The truth is that people don't heed by warning, they heed by example. One of the example will be massive continental flooding caused by global warming, hurray!

  • *One of the example will be massive continental flooding caused by global warming*

People didn't react after Katrina, they don't react after huge fires in California, they don't react after seeing a glaciar disappear (in pictures), etc. Bunch of retarded!

  • this means we still have to consider Katrina, the californian fires, etc as warnings. the real example will be when a couple of billions of us die quickly ;)

  • the truth is sometimes shocking, but we cant escape reality.

one day we have to pay the price.

lets wake up now and take responsibility!!!

  • So well done.

  • This information has been around for a long time, but people don't pay attention to it...until people like Annie make it something fun to watch and learn from.

  • Let's get started. Change.

  • Outstanding video. Simple, clear and direct. We probably won't be seeing this video on commercial T.V. anytime soon.

  • Great video, I hope many people open their eyes and heart with it.

  • the genius of retail?

    the genius of retail?

    silly.

  • It is not just based on what people are willing to pay but also on the cost of production. This video is saying that there may be costs of producing a $4.99 radio that are not taken into account in the price set by the supplier because somewhere along the supply chain there is a lack of transparency on working conditions, environmental impact etc.

  • Dang... I never thought about it that way...

  • Great Video - Makes sense.

    Now lets get busy.

  • is a copy for kremallera videoclip

  • Well done Annie! Thank you for making this message simple and clear! Keep on! Will support in all possible ways!

  • This is fantastic, and I'm going to send it to everyone I know.

Thanks so much for making it!

  • i watched the whole thing today in my seventh grade science class.......they should show it everywhere....we also watched parts of "An Inconvinent Truth" but i think this was better because it got the real point across faster without family stories----consise and fabulous overall

  • best video on public awareness of the need to pursue sustainability.

  • excellent!

  • My sister just sent this to me. This movie gave me goosebumps, it's awesome! They should show it in every elementary school.

  • This is so true, I'm going to try not to shop so much and try and keep stuff longer.

  • 4 comments for 7 thousand views....

  • Very good point. I'm sure this site is run very similar to those of the President's during his campaign. All comments moderated, and only those agreeing shown.

Shows you the character of the people we are dealing with, they cannot tolerate dissent.

  • I love this! Watch the whole thing... It's right up there with An Inconvenient Truth. Entertaining and amazingly informative.

  • Definitely...the truth is disgusting! A must see...watch the full video and get your head out of the sand will you?

  • This lady is bang-on. Be sure to go to her site and watch the whole movie. It may be one of the most important videos ever made. Go Team!

  • what planet are you on?

  • this piece was so well done, non- judgemental flowed right to the heart and brain centers into action. I plan on sharing this piece with as many as I can in the most green way I can. Congratulations to the creator of the piece and all who assisted in the creation. Timely message received. .thanx

  • now If only people weren't so lazy and actually gave a shit, this thing could actually work. I hope to god my children dont have to continue living the way we do..

sorry, im ripped as hell, so this comment might not make sense.

    Great video by the way.

  • *I hope to god my children dont have to continue living the way we do..*

That is the problem. Far too many people hope to *GOD* to solve all the problems, while they do nothing about them. God is one of the big reasons why this world is a mess. Let's stop following 2-year-old fairy tales and start using our brains, and our knowledge of *facts*, and take responsibility for our acts--instead of blaming God's lessons or the devil for our miseries.

  • Some people deal with problems through consulting what they think is a higher being. You do not have to patronize them for it.

  • I do, because it is irresponsible and a childish behaviour. It is as silly as expecting Santa Claus to solve your problems. Or believing that there is nothing to do because it is all God's intention, or that God will just solve it for us--which is a way of avoiding taking action and responsibility by giving it to somehing/someone else. The time people spend praying for solutions could be better spent studying the problems, thinking of solutions, and taking action.

  • Some people have faith others don't. Some people have faith and take action The Dali Lama meditates several hours a day and still takes action as did Mother Teresa Pray and helped the pore. Maybe you should spend less time criticizing and start doing good in the world instead of trying to slander people's religion.

  • I agree with you on one aspect and disagree in another. People need to stop hoping God will solve all of our problems and that magically he'll fix them. Where we differ is i believe in God but I belive that God has given humanity the tools we need to fix it. If I teach a baby to walk im noy going to hold their forever because I know they have the tools to do it themselves. We know how to stop we dont so why should God help us ?
