I live on the north side of the Daintree River and I can't remember the last time the ferry had to stop operations because of sand and low tides (this did rarely happen with the previous ferry). Right now they are just about to finish dredging the channel for the first time in 12 months. This has been done at night over the last two weeks (after the ferry closes with no disruption to the normal daytime service). Ferry stopage because of sand build up is no longer an issue.
We travelled to Cape Trib in June 2009 and spent the day there. We drove home in darkness and were very surprised to see the boom gate open while the ferry was on the other side of the river. One of the lights was also out so we thought it was a pretty dangerous situation.
Someone could easily end up in the river with the crocs as it's kind of upon you quite suddenly as you emerge from the rain forests.
woah, what did you film that on? for a travel company thats pretty bad quality.
You also forgot to mention that the ferry is non operational when the tide goes out on some days, which makes the sand below build up. When that happens they have to dredge the ferry path so it can float without hitting the bottom.
