@Reetrosoul I put this in my own 'Blues' list, rather than 'Jazzing', since it's just so soulful, that outweighs the jazzy quality of its arrangement. Lou Rawls' voice embodied soul, no matter what he sang. Hope that helps!

Funny - how people describe various aspects of vocalize. For example, "Lou Rawls was known for his smooth style."

To me - Lou Rawls was anything but smooth. I'd substitute the word, "mellow."  Lou was rough - growling and all - but mellow.

Lou Rawls has so much rhythm in his voice, he could deliver the notes practically anyway he wanted. And, he did. That's why we're still talking about him.

I love that rough, growl-ally bluesy sound. Miss you Lou Lou - love you.

thank-you for sharing this. I bought the LP when it first came out and I literally wore it out by playing this song over and over continuously. J.D. Loudermilk is a great writer and does his song better than most who have covered it but this is by far my favorite cover of the song.
