  • We have lost another great singer. I will miss him deeply peace

  • first heard an homage to this song on the hip-hop duo Dead Prez's LP "Let's Get Free"

  • I've always loved the version off of Jefferson Airplane's first album. That said, Rawls's slow version is spectacular. I've been around forever, but I've never heard this version. Awesome!

  • Very nice.

  • smooth

  • Jefferson Airplane's version is also great!

  • This is the song I love most by LR

  • does'nt get much better than lou rawls.

  • i think we all lived on our own lil Tobacco Roads"" why i love this song

  • East st louis illinois

  • YESLAWD!!

  • Authentic afro american !

  • ...i got a question for anybody out there in youtube land, will this song be considered Blues or Jazz?..... thanks!

  • @Reetrosoul "blue light in the basement"

kinda a mix of the two

  • @Reetrosoul A very soulful singer singing Blues.

  • @Reetrosoul I put this in my own 'Blues' list, rather than 'Jazzing', since it's just so soulful, that outweighs the jazzy quality of its arrangement. Lou Rawls' voice embodied soul, no matter what he sang. Hope that helps!

  • @Reetrosoul

well jazz is mostly focused on the instrumentals and this song is almost all vocals

  • That is a voice that can make me tear up. awsome.

  • HE STARTED AS A BACK-UP SINGER WITH SAM COOKE AND BECAME ONE OF THE GREAT SOULFUL SINGERS OF ALL TIME

  • 1:32 Lou's spittin' game to Kermit. LOL

  • There is only one voice like this.......and this is it!! Lou Rawls !!! See you later bro.

  • Seems it took a British teen group (Nashville Teens) to appreciate and celebrate American music like this.

  • Oh my god - what a great song! Lou sang it with soulful perfection!

  • They don't make music like this anymore!

  • wow... great ending!

  • chicago's finest

  • great!

  • ol i only come across this song because michael jackson said this was his favourte song when he was a kid so i was like i wonder what the songs was lol and its now on my ipod lol :)

  • @antmeup me 2 hahaha

  • Please forgive me advance. I was watching South Park and a Character named "Token", was singing "You'll Never Find". Frankly, I feel kinda stupid for not have recognized this mans talents. Mr. Rawls is an incredible musician, and the more I listen to his "era", the more I wish we could resurect it.

  • My mother saw hin perform this in Boston, Mass. USA when I was 12 years old. I'm presently 53. Thank you.

  • thank you this was good.

  • full of blues yeah it is

  • 2:08.. damn Lou!! who's she? lol

  • This is from a man who loves his country, pop an rock...buts gots to have my tabaccy..from my fave soul singer..R.I.P. my dear friend.

  • Luv His Voice!!!

  • home skillet right cheer

  • This is by far a great song. His version is the best no doubt about it.

  • Funny - how people describe various aspects of vocalize. For example, "Lou Rawls was known for his smooth style."

To me - Lou Rawls was anything but smooth. I'd substitute the word, "mellow." Lou was rough - growling and all - but mellow.

Lou Rawls has so much rhythm in his voice, he could deliver the notes practically anyway he wanted. And, he did. That's why we're still talking about him.

I love that rough, growl-ally bluesy sound. Miss you Lou Lou - love you.

  • Happy Birthday Big Lou!!!

May God continue to bless your soul.

  • awesome he is truly missed

  • I want to go to a honky tunk! Y'all coming?

  • Thanks! Great One.

  • thank-you for sharing this. I bought the LP when it first came out and I literally wore it out by playing this song over and over continuously. J.D. Loudermilk is a great writer and does his song better than most who have covered it but this is by far my favorite cover of the song.

  • Puts me in a smokey bar with a whiskey on the rocks and a good cigar.
