it's incredible to listen to this and an old death cab record back to back and see JUST how similar the sounds are. American Football should have stuck together, they deserve so much for making such beautiful music.
This is the first song by American Football I heard. The first impression was definitive... I just thought "What the hell? This is amazing! This is so melancholic and nostalgic!" Despite I didn't get the meaning of the lyrics at the first time (beacuse i'm not a native english speaker and I have certain problems with the "listening"), the music just caught me forever... and ever. Now, I got it... this video explains perfectly the song's ideas and feelings.
The comments going on here are beyond stupidity. It's music. Who cares if it's 90's post-grunge derived from the odd and ends of 80's emo and early 90's indie but also contains influences of early hair metal or if it's DOOM, etc.
@CavaliarEternal The only point of genre labels is to find bands that sound similar. In the case of American Football, the labels are useless because American Football is totally original, and even if you found something similar, it would be as good.
LMFAO!!! You seriously think that EMO began in the late 70's?!?! bahahaha!! i never heard of anything so foolish! i think you mean late 80'S, my friend.
see, this little island called UK invent a game, and now its the most popular sport in the world. but when this rebel colony try to invent a game, nobody gives a sh1t
lmao only USA could call something a WORLD series and not invite the world

You know rice is the most popular food in the world.
Does that mean its the best or just the cheapest to create? Don't you think there is a reason 3rd world countries don't play American Football and Hockey , but DO play soccer?
I have no way of typing any compliments without sounding like a twelve year old or just an ignorant fool so fuck it, great video and song. I only wish you would put more AF (maybe anything from The Good Life wich i find just as good)
thats such a good question, so many emo bands were like that, cap'n jazz, saetia... its really a shame because now people think my chemical romance is emo and thats bullshit
Bad news man. American football... the best band EVER... are not together. They mainly focused on the recording studio and than ended up going their different ways.
Sadly American Football is no longer together. But if you like them then you should check out the other bands that Mike Kensella is involved with. His solo act called OWEN is just as good. So is his brother's band JOAN OF ARC, which he also plays drums in. Other projects by these guys include THE ONE UP DOWNSTAIRS ,THE OWLS, CAP'N JAZZ, and GHOSTS AND VODKA. All just as good and all have some member from American Football.
the cd this song is on is so,so awesome for rideing my bike home from work.its beautiful. and its what i listened to on the greyhound bus to the west coast,2 yrs ago when i moved here, everytime i hear it i think of looking out the window at the midwest, watching the mountains and stuff go by.love it!
you were in af? never heard of your band until today, was in town (dublin) this morning and your album was playing in a cafe there, really loved it; the waitress got in trouble for taking out the cd to check the title for me. it was playing 'you know i should be leaving soon'... class, thanks.
the last jam part is rocking. the bass line probably worth learning

it's the same lead guy but its much more chill and accoustic-esque.. and I'm PRETTY SURE, that Owen is still together.

P.S: The Smiths lyrics are sooooo "emo". Morrissey's ideology is based on emo thoughts. So... what's the fuckin' problem?
