  • It was great! Gods blessings, always, ~ ♫♪ Vit

  • @1957People I completely agree with you my friend !!!!! LOVE THE CARS !!!!!!

  • una delle piu' belle canzoni degli anni 80'.....from italy

  • Just great all the way - Love this tune

  • This is my favourite piece because that synth-guitar solo. It's simple so what.

  • is song is very good, the video awesome, the cars pretty boys

  • David Robinson OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH !!! what a drummer

  • @ the end of 1:57 - what an amazing sound!.. :L

  • Man this is to cool

  • Great quality.

  • this song is the equivalent of a robot on acid jacking off in heaven

  • OMG I remember this one so so well I still have the Live Aid on video tape The Cars their music was so good and feels great to see them again:-0

    ThX for uploading.

  • oh yeahhhhhhhh I love this song ;-)

  • oh my gosh bass sound oh my

  • and introducing Rick Moranis on drums...:-))

  • God, I love New Wave and Benjamin Orr. I could eat him with a spoon.

  • @fuggar77 Not anymore. Unfortunately, he passed way years ago. What a great loss to the music world.

  • I've been listening to the recent versions of this song from the 2011 reunion tour and quite frankly, they stink. THIS is the definitive version of Heartbeat City live. In the recent performances Ric doesn't even play rhythm, Elliot is just going through the motions and Greg is left to carry the song single-handedly. It's not just Ben's absence that makes the recent performances lackluster. Watch this one if you really want to see Heartbeat City as it should be performed live.

  • wicked

  • @toihapeta28 -----Wicked is a GREAT WORD for this performance!! AWESOME!!

  • cars...best 80's band period

  • i was 13yrs old in summer 85 during live aid and it was just a buzz![taking into consideration i was living in the country].i missed this performance and to transfer the studio version to live version is just jaw dropping-tanx4post.just thinking about 80s brings tears to my eyes.

  • Συννεφα με πανταλονια????οχι δε μ αρεσε η ελληνικη διασκευη..καθολου.

  • Boston's such a great place 2 compose music..

    Syncrosound, baby !

  • Ben and maybe the drummer was the only none nerd .....

    but really a great band

  • good time of the 80

  • Why promoters and media outlets gave preference to less worthy artists during the 70's-80's is anyone's guess. This band is iconic.

  • Just a little get together with some family and friends......

    amazing

we are all connected to everything, all of us, everything.

Love yourself and everything around you while you can.

you are unique, but not seperate from the YOUniverse.

I hope you liked that, it was for you!

  • Jackie.... what took you so long?

  • Whoops, in my reply to soulasylummeatpuppet, meant to say Ben Orr sang lead on most of MY favorite songs by Cars, not most of their hit songs. Do not want to slight Ric Ocasek!

  • I could drive to forever with this song..

  • What´s the model of electric guitar that´s playing Elliot Easton?

  • @TalbotHorizon

It is a Roland G707 MIDI guitar to use e.g. together with the GR-700. An of course it is the left hand version ;-)

  • As a HUGE Cars fan, I have to recommend this performance over the 2011 live performances of this song. Maybe it's because Ben's gone or maybe they just haven't played together for a quarter of a century. The recent live versions of Heartbeat City here on YouTube are...well...really lame. They're still a great band and I love Move Like This.

  • Superb !!! I love The Cars . And Ben was so handsome !!!! RIP Benjamin .

  • @BabsTen Ric Ocasek was so handsome!

  • Comment removed

  • SWEETEST BACKUP VOCALS SINCE THE BEATLES.

  • Rest in Peace Benjamin Orr. Great Song!

  • Disappointed. It's like this whole video was perfoemed by a four man band. The cameras zooming in on everyone except Benjamin Orr. Wtf? Why was he avoided?

  • @outacontrol41 they did the same thing in a lot of there videos from the 80's i wish someone would explain why he was pushed into the background.he was the best thing they had in the early days.makes no sense at all.

  • @soulasylummeatpuppet I agree with you that not spotlighting Ben Orr in their videos is a mystery! Why not? Being a casual Cars fan, I bought a DVD set few yrs. ago and was surprised to see that it was Orr that sang lead vocal on most of their hit songs AND wrote a lot of them. I like Ric, Elliot & others & appreciate their contributions and that's what made them a great group, but maybe media & director of their videos felt that Ric Ocasek was the mastermind behind the Cars?

  • @outacontrol41 If yu watch him singing lead on 'Drive' and 'Just what I needed', there are pleny of beautiful close-ups, he was gorgeous!

  • They play AWESOME live!!

  • What an awesome track, the cars were the best thing to come into my life, since sliced bread./

  • Ric Ocasek is a genius. One of my favorite Cars songs of all time.

  • @MrPTL247 My favorite. :)

  • to jest naprawdę dobre

  • best song ever

  • @johnnybendybones

Um, no. Best new wave song ever!

  • a subtle classic

  • i love this...

  • awesome lefty guitar

  • It's so catchy, at first listen i said "this is a little to pop for me", but then the catchieness kicked in and i find myself listening to it a sixth time. Even when the Cars did make the transistion from new wave hard rock and power pop to pop-rock and synthpop I still find the Easton breakdown solos worth all the wait of their cheesy MTV pop-rock, They were just fine as a oriented rock band. I hate MTV. "MTV killed the music star!"

  • Did anybody notice the left handed Roland g707 used by Elliot? Extremely rare.

  • @sjdd1960 I DID INDEED.

  • @sjdd1960 I never knew that, that's cool :D

  • I must have played the Heartbeat City tape about a thousand times in my new Honda Civic CRX back in 1984. Good times. I remember Live Aid being a fun day too.

  • Some Idiots are posting on the Drive video of this concert that the cars are not really playing and that they are lipsyncing. Those idiots must have been raised on Justin Beiber and Timberlake and Britney and other Disney creations as well as U2 ripoffs like coldplay. They cannot believe that a group could play live so well and so good. Such idiots need to be educated on the 80s.

  • @GrinchXP

how could anyone say that they were lipsyncing, 85 was the very first time i heard this songand it got me into the cars and the gone but not forgotten benjamim orr R.I.P. brilliant group nothing to touch them now.

  • @yesimoverhere Clearly the lead vox and instruments are live. But the backing vox sound too overproduced to be live and are probably a backing tape. They are definitely playing to a click track. That's why the drummer is wearing headphones and why the KB player can hit one key with one finger and get perfectly timed arpeggios coming out of his instrument. It's a great song though, by a great band!

  • @GrinchXP Be silent a vegetable. Even in the USSR we in the mid-eighties listened to them and loved, if you don't like that don't listen. Plywood it or not personally to me without a difference - a song good and memoirs on those times who was even better after all than many of those then near to me already isn't present in the live

  • This was a good song...it had a different kind of feel to it...very cool

  • 9 people wouldn't know a great song if it jumped up and bit them in the ASS!!!!

  • What a time it was, truely a time lost forever and a time I'll never forget and a time that will always be a part of me. Those who are sad about times gone by, let it go, don't let life get in the way of what is important, it can still be as good as it once was, you just gotta make it so. Tought to do I know, but it is doable, try it. I promise it will work out.

  • I agree with everyone people !! Great crowd , great song , great band and i also whould like to travel back then if that was possible...Thank god there where these kind of people that made such great great music that will be the same in everyones ears for ages !!!!! So wonderfull to hear again and again.Thank you, thank you....!!!!!!

    A friend from thessaloniki greece.

  • Awesome live song - and LOOK AT THAT CROWD!

  • I find it just too ironic how judas priest came right before the cars, why, well one, those are my two favorite bands of all time, and two they come from different sides of rock

  • @EyeballMuscles

lets first ask, what kinda guitar is that!! I love diverse rock bands!

  • Perfect timeless gorgeous eighties nostalgia, thank you for posting..

  • Saw them Sunday night in Denver. They are still f*ing amazing!

  • Seeing these guys in Toronto on Friday night, gonna be awesome!

  • Wooooow Fantastic . I love The Cars !!!!

  • THE CARS KNOW COOL.

  • as a native Philadelphian, i was there

  • God Bless JFK Stadium (RIP)

  • This brings me back to '85 when my dad used to play the cassette tape in his '69 RS Camaro n roll us around Colorado...Good times!

  • Rik arsed up - he came in late and missed the first lines "Oh heartbeat city

    Here we come" . ;-)

  • @WRTYIO With purpose I think...

  • I saw the Cars in the 80s. They sounded just as good live as in the studio stuff. Wow been a long while ago now.............

  • Ric Ocasek has cool glasses

  • @ricocasekfan

    Elliot Easton glasses too!!!

I want to buy a similar kkkkkk

  • Comment removed

  • @ricocasekfan

    They are Rayban´s Clubmaster.

  • @ricocasekfan You, my friend, deserve a thousand thumbs up for your comment. :)

    Slance, haha

  • Got my Cars tickets for the May 10 concert in Seattle! Gonna meet up with a buddy from High School I haven't seen since, well, HS (1985). Gonna effin' rock!

RIP Benjamin Orr. Your vocals are missed.

  • ME WANTS TO TIME TRAVEL!!!!

  • @MrREDSKINZ100

    Then get ahold of Doc

  • @MrREDSKINZ100 Me too !!!!!!

  • @MrREDSKINZ100 room for two in that time machine?

  • Yeah they looked like they were having a great time!

  • THE BEST

  • Is Rick Ocasec Howard Sterns long lost brother from the past? Just kidding I have always dug this bands sound and style and have bought their solo music too. I hear the new music is great it's just too bad that Ben wasn't still around. His voice was truly unique and special and will be greatly missed by fans of the Cars.

  • ric okasek forgot to sing the first verse.... wowww.... genious

  • @catcage, that day the person mixing for all groups, screwed up all the levels. I was all messed up for several seconds. I know because I heard it live as I was there and remember it. 20 some years later the recordings re-emerged and somehow the problem was "magically" fixed. And you're hearing them live, but that little sections mixing got repaired. I suspect editing removed the first line. But you are right, ric ocasek is a genius. (and yes, that's how it's spelled)

  • typo: I meant, "It was all messed up".

  • @driedfreeze Yes, sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina and I'm a fan of the cars ... I have not said as criticism, only as showing that the genious also have errors ... bands like that will never exist! and if it is Ocasek ... only to write fast

  • @catcage Just think....with todays joke "artists" you would have still heard it even though he wasn't at the mic;-P

  • my favorite cars song, so naturally the only one i couldn't get my i-pod XD

  • Ric Ocasek looks like my 7th grade female gym teacher. Woof.

  • he forgot to say in the beginning "heartbeat city here we go":)

  • This was always my favourite Cars number. Great footage. Weirdly, Ric Ocasek look strangely like Patti Smith here - or is it just me?

  • Love this song brilliant once again the cars deliver a great performance for all us cars fans thanks

  • In 1978 I had the pleasure of spending a day with the band sitting around the pool at the Whitehall Hotel in Houston, Tx. An awesome day. I watched Ric write song after song like he was writing letters to his mom. I was invited to come back the next night and ride with the band to the concert but went with friends. I did get to sit with the sound and light engineers in the crowd and saw the playlist and knew every song they were going to perform. What a memory. They were all great.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome, man i dont know how i ever got along without youtube!!!!

  • Jackie is their vacation fyi

  • Love and Miss Aunt Jackie:) <3

  • Yikes! I must be reaaal slooow- OW I hear Lou reed in ic's voice! Maybe it's cause I'm almost 57?? YIIIIkes...

  • @zensolo

Now that you mention it, there is some similarity in Ric's and Lou Reed's voices. Both are 80's icons. Lou made something of a comeback singing on The Killers's song "Tranquilize" but I don't think he made much of a contribution. In fact, the song may have been better without him.

  • PEDAZO DE ROLA, Y UNA MAGISTRAL EJECUSION EN VIVO!!! GRANDES LOS MAESTROS!!!!

  • I think more cowbell.......The 80's was a special time with such great bands and music..

  • I think a little mustach would fit him good.....!

  • WOW!!--This is so AWESOME!!--Very laid back and Comfortable!!

  • excelente recomendacion! ººº

  • 7 people didn't get "the noise electric never stops".

  • @dudefromtherock

Hey, I don't get "the noise electric never stops" either. But this is one great song and one great performance.

  • nothing like the 80"s

  • one of my favorites off the album Rick looks so cool behind them foster grants

  • feel like i've been there - although i was only three then and lived somewhere far beyond the horizon...

  • @lenn9 Shit man I can`t REMEMBER when I was 29,lol.

  • I have a feeling the 10's are gonna be the new 80's! And if they are immm SOOo PUMPED!! just cool electronic beats

  • THE NOISE ELECTRIC NEVER STOPS, ...OH JACKIE ....LOVING IT

  • ITS FOR LIFE, LOVE THIS SONG SUCH A GOOD BEAT

  • Thanks to all for posting all the Live Aid set of the Cars. I can only remember the uk's bbc showing 2 songs of the set. Showed more coverage in the uk of the usa live aid with a man on stage throwing a freisbee into the crowd. thanks again

  • Amazing song!!!

  • stone guy, ive figured out that every thirty years since 1830, has been a really good decade, so we can only hope that this one will rock

  • If you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!

  • Love the HD quality! Great song too.

  • crazy !. haha

  • Awesome video. I had the pleasure of spending a day with the band in Houston in 1978. Around the hotel pool I watched Ric, sitting in his lawn chair, writing song after song like he was writing letters home. Amazing. Enjoyed everyone of the guys and crew. They invited me to ride with them to the show the next night and then sit with the mixing board during the show. I knew the song lineup and enjoyed just spending the time with them all. God bless Ben. He is missed very very much.

  • and i just adore the keyboard from 0:09 to 0:29

  • Comment removed

  • "It's getting closer - out of sight" Great lyrics - almost as good as their line...

"She changed into her silk - I stood there drinking milk!" (From Door to Door album)

  • Oh damn I HATE IT WHEN THEY NEVER SHOW THE BASS PLAYER UUURGH =(

  • @mrtamberineman123

Sadly Benjamin Orr is no longer with us.

  • @tigershoot I know its tragic, so much tallent =( The Cars just arent the Cars without him. =(

But it really annoys me that the camera (especialy during the 80s) just ignored bassists even if they are as tallented as Benjamin =(

  • @mrtamberineman123 Especially Ben

  • The vintage Roland gr-707

  • @beerbrain420

Hey man, we ARE getting old. I know all the hype about a possible reunion and the video clip on their Facebook page. And of coure all of us Cars fans are extatic. But this performance is the summit, the pinnacle. I would love to see a reunion, but I don't think they'll ever do better than this song in this place.

  • "and there's a place for everyone, under Heartbeat City's golden sun...."

  • Anyone out there know the story behind this song?

  • LOVE IT..."ALL YOU NEED IS WHAT YOU GOT"....MISS THIS TIME IN MY LIFE SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wot a tune i moved in to my house on this day..the cars was the best live band on this day..ther perfromance were out standing ,,R.I.P. BEN

  • The good ole days, i hear they are coming back on tour

  • Great watching these clips again. The Cars were so ultra cool, contained and in such complete control. Real pro's.This show was soooooooo much better than Woodstock. Simply no comparison as far as music festival shows go.

  • I remember watching The Cars doing this on Live Aid with my wife in our basement apartment. Can it really be a quarter of a century? Damn, I'm feelin' old........

  • What year did I graduate? Oh yeah 1985,,,,, LOL and.

  • Did you see Ben looking over at Greg and smile near the end of the song? These fellows are just having a good time and making great music. Let's see...for about the hundredth time I'll say it, they just don't make music like that any more.

  • @relztrah I never caught that before! Bejamin and Rick... So amazing. No, they don't make music like that any more. They just don't.

  • Buena! ººº Se agradece =)

  • sono 3 mesi che ascolto questo pezzo. Ineguagliabile.

  • 00:51 = lyric fail

  • Hey guys, the last "reunion" of sorts with The New Cars was a flop, but please give it another try. We're all old men now, but the music is still great. I'll fly across the country and pay whatever to see you live.

  • brilliant

  • YES!

  • What's the name of the guitar Elliot is using?

  • @ricocasekfan Roland G707 Synthesizer Controlled Guitar
