Oh another thing even if you live at home you can send a letter, they'll get it while your at school, or out with your friends, on vacation or a field trip, time it... usually 3 days for a letter to get home, write it , post it ; 3 days later its home.
to continue; in a letter we have time to explain better and without rushing anything and they have time to reflect and digest the news before facing them. It took my dad a day to digest it, my brother ( a military) which i was most worried about, said to my sister inlaw; he's my brother and i love him. So the reaction are like Davey said different. Generation gap is also important and play into it. Your gramma wont understand, she still loves you but wont get it, that simple. Good luck.
I got another advice or way to do it. Its the chicken shit way, the way i did it. I wrote a letter to all my friends and family. Telling them and asking them to ask me any question they'd like when they see me. So before i went to their places, theirs was a buffer. On the phone i could gage by their tone of voice and prepare. I can say that most where ok about it. Some already knew( lots of time we let are guard down without knowing it and they figure it out by themselves) So a letter is great.
@1peacefulover I'm 13 today and it's my birth day I'm a bisexual and I've told a couple oft good friends. They excepted me and understood that I am who I am. I was really afraid but now I think I might have the courage to tell more people including my parents. It's just a difficult process but I' m fighting through it.
I'm 20 and I've told all my guy friends most of which who are straight and they where fine with it, but I guess around family I'm not comfortable with it, I know they wouldn't mind and then be a little upset, but get over it but it's still something i'm getting use to, the word "gay" still doesn't feel right yet, so I'm slowly getting there
In my experience chicks take the news and there more understanding. I think it's cause typically they like dick too and they can see the attraction. ^_^ And if they don't like dick they understand cause there gay too ^_^
i came out when this year and my life has never been better. one day i just got sick of hiding myself away and could stand pretending to everyone...i done all of these things lol and im PERFECTLY fine :DDDD
I came out to my friends YEARS before I came out to my mom. I'm pansexual. She was watching an "it gets better video" and after it was over, she looked at me and the look on my face and went "what? are you going to tell me you're gay now?" I said, not exactly. It's so true that you NEVER know how they'll react. It was so anti-climactic with my mom. She was just like, pansexual, what's that? And I explained she was like. Oh, ok. It's the talks that have come afterward that have been interesting.
well my friend c ame out two years ago but when he first came out he came out as bisexual as a bit of a stepping stone instead of being all like in their face so it was easy for him to say he didn't like girls at all
I haven't came out to yet and this video really helps. I think they know that I am, but I am from a Mormon family and they are really strict about it. I am afraid to leave me church because I am scared of what my parents and family thinks. Its just I keep going back and forth between on wither or not I should stay in the church or express the feelings I have. Its a hard choice to make, but all together this video helps.
@ZerosGreatestLove This is one of the reasons I absolutely HATE religion >.< Really I personally feel that as long as I accept God and Jesus and try to be as nice as humanly possible to everyone, What am I doing wrong? The Bible doesn't say anything against homosexuality(and don't even get me started on that) My mom's side is very Catholic and I had the same problem your having. Be yourself. Love who you are. In the end, the only person you can't run from is yourself.
@ZerosGreatestLove I am also a gay Mormon. I empathize with you greatly. I was afraid of my family, my community, many of my friends, and I was terrified of not being Mormon. I finally came out at age 26, now nearly a year later… honestly it is still hard. Most of my family will no longer see me or talk to me. But even with all of the problems it is worth it. I have friends that love me for who I am. I am no longer afraid. More importantly I am finally able to love myself for who I am.
Don't come out of the closet until you have nerves of steel. You have to be ready and willing to mock homophobes/christians/etc until they realize you have nothing to be ashamed of yourself.
I'd wait until you're an adult to be honest. Just my personal opinion. Even though I have no shame, I wouldn't want my parents knowing about my sexuality no matter what. If I had kids, I'd only want to know about their orientation if they wanted to share it with me.
Before you come out (especially to your parents), give subtle little clues in your parents direction (i.e. Staring at someone on the street of the same sex). This way your parents will maybe start to realise what you are. So when you officially come out to them, there will be shock factor.
What he said here is all really helpful, I find coming out is an on going process. It really never ends cause youre always meeting new people. But each time it gets a little easyer. I also think confidence is key. The more Im comfortable with who I am I find the more the person im telling is too.
Some people suck. when i was forced out of the closet by someone i considered a "best friend" (just had to tell all his friends). people started rumors that i was some kind of pedophile, even if i clearly said i like guys that are older than me. people just dont want to suck it up and accept the truth
Hey man. Honestly I stumbled onto this but I decided to see what it was all about. I'm straight myself so I guess this isn't a typical video I'd find myself watching. I just think it's really cool that you're doing this kind of video for people who are having a hard time. Helping out your fellow man is just really awesome. Keep it up. There are definitely people out there who really need this kind of stuff!
Ok...im not gay (bi) but I did come out to my parents seperatly because there divorced and my Dad was very supportive and loved me very much for telling him but Julie(my mum) was a different story, since she is very obsessive over us she didn't take it well and she asked me if I was in a relationship after and I said I was, with my girlfriend Laura but she shouted at me and forced me to break up with her... :( after about a year Julie came out as gay...-.- my new stepmum is very supportive ^^
My best friend came out to all of us. We were like "yeah, we know." Her family was like "yeah, we know." LOL. I don't think she was prepared for it to be so anti-climactic. We all said we loved her, and that was kind of it.
My advice? Don't sugar coat it. Just cone right out with it. If you sugar coat it, it'll imply that you feel guilty or something. Just a bad idea. So don't give this big long speech. Just say mom, dad, I'm gay. Then it's done.
For me I want my coming out to be a huge celebration so I'm doing it at homecoming! :D I came out to my mom 2 months ago, along with a couple friends before that. I'm bi so I haven't told my bff because I have a crush on her, but I'll either ask her out before I come out of afterwards. We'll see
I'm so happy for all you deciding to come out!! There's no reason to live your beautiful life in fear. Educate yourself and others, and never lose sight of means most to you. Best of luck and lots of love!!
i told my friends and my dad im bi, they were all supportive, but my dad lives across the country so i texted him it.... im scared to tell my mom cuz im scared shes not gonna let me have like sleepovers or hang out with girls anymore..
I'm gonna come out to my friends tomorrow... I know it's not that of a big deal but I'm slowly freaking the fuck out anyway. This vid was helpful though, thanks.
@MrProud10 my mum is like that too, dont let it get you down, instead of staring at the waiter , perhaps try saying tht u think hes cute, u'know, ease her into it. its been a year since i told my mum, n while shes stil goes quiet sometimes, shes starting to acept it and ask me about peopl i like,so as the vid above says - give her gentle reminds.
i hadnt seen this when i came out, but i practiced on friends too, made it so much better having support there when i finaly told my parents so great advice
All of my really-close friends already know I'm gay. And my mom, step-dad, and grandmother knows. It's just, kind of overwhelming to know that they all know. But I plan on coming out on New Years by posting a video on Facebook to ALL of my family and friends. I may regret or not. But they deserve to know. Whenever someone asks me who I like, but I try to avoid the question. I think people already know, but this video will confirm it. Wish me luck :)
i guess i did it backwards then told my mom but still havent told friends other than "girl friends" :/ but am i the only one who noticed this is like the only one where he wears a shirt wtf. o_O... now i gotta see my friends an talk to them... especially the one i like .///. o well doing it next month.
At first i told all of my friends I'm bisexual and they handled it pretty well and Most of them accepted it and it was over, nothing changed the way they felt about me. Then I told my mom I'm bisexual last month. She went outside to take the dogs out and I went outside with her cuz she was alone and I knew she would accept it, considering she accepts my brother being gay. I also told some of my family members that I knew would accept it. I haven't told my dad yet but I'm planning on doing that s
For everyone who asked how my coming out went, it went pretty well. :) No repercussions, really, so it went a thousand times better than what I thought it could be.
hey Davey Wavey , i came out of the closet a year ago when i was 18 , to my mom , i didnt have support kz if i'm gonna come out to my friends i think im gonna loose them so, i came out to my mom it was weird a little bit (their were some crying and she was so upset ) but thank GOD she is open minded and she's there form me , but if we're in a cafe place and i look at the waiter and i smile she get upest :(:(:(
I'm in college, and I came out to my parents when I went home for fall break a couple months ago. They got super upset and basically blamed my friends, telling me that I was just "trying to rebel". I'm going to be seeing them again for the first time next week...
Since you are 13 you`re probably going to live until 85+ (according to my doctor I can skip the word `probably` and write 100). This means you have 72+ years to think and decide what you want from live. Don`t be afraid, go for it! And yes: there will be lot`s of fights but see the chances instead of the problems and I promise: you`ll be ok!
I'm not gay I'm bi-sexual and I'm 13 there's been one time where I told parents when I was 10 and they said I didn't know what I was talking about now I don't know what to do... I have a boyfriend currently but i just don't know how to come out its to hard since my parents already kinda know
hey guys. starting a blog about the journey of coming out to my family and friends. When figuring things out i was frustrated that i couldn't find anything about what i was going through or anyone who experienced it. So hoping my experiences will help someone out. If you want check out my channel info for the blog website address. Hope to cya there!
Why am I here I'm 100% straight... But I feel bad for some of you that are insecure about it and don't know what to do... Dunno what to tell yaa but remember once your 18 you are freeeeeeee!!
Thank god. I was hoping you would have enough respect for the newbies to actually, finally wear a shirt while telling them how to come out. If not, they just might come out by showing thier parents your shirtless ass video! Thier folks would be like, holy shit! Now you're gonna run around naked from here on out!?!?!?!
hello all! just an honest question. whats the point of going out of your way to tell people you're gay or bi? i'm bi and i honestly don't feel the need to announce it. What does it do for you all who decide to "come out"?
@BLCaptainHeroin Yes. That makes more sense to me. I'm sort of don't ask don't tell. Not because i'm ashamed, but because i feel like its necessary. But of course it would be ridiculous to say that should be the same for everyone. Everyone has a different experience and situation.
Thank you so much for these tips, I'm only 15 and I've been holding back this since I was 12 and had my first kiss with another guy, I've tried dating girls cause I hated myself inside and didn't want to be a shame to my parents but now the weight is getting to heavy. I've only come out to my best friend and she supports me so I got my safety net. I think its time for my parents. Wish me luck and ty again :)
this rilly helped because i rilly like a guy called Dan Howarth but i dont know how to say it to him soo please can one of you post on his facebook saying i like him because i do the have the balls to do it my self x x x ;) you would be rilly helping thanx x x x ;)
i 1st told my best friend and she really helped me to become more comfortable with who i am im so happy she accepted me it just proves shes a true friend :)
I think the worse situation that anyone can be in is if they have a religion that doesnt like gays, but they are gay. And I believe that I might be one of them.
what i did was i just made myself really good friends with a bunch of people and started tellin em one by one but i havnt told all of them im up to.. 9 people? somethin like that but idk if im ever goin to tell my family because theyre all homophobics
Half my school knows I'm a lesbian and I want to tell my mom but I'm an only child so shes fixated on this idea of me having a 'normal' family someday I don't want to make her sad, but this is me..so should I come out to her? :p
so. i kinda came out to my mom. i left her a note but dint mean for her to get it. but the worst thing is. i came out on fb to people. now i dont kno who knows and who doesnt. cant u help please?
Ok what do I do if I have only told one parent (Which is my step mom of course) And she thinks its my responsability to tell my dad and my real mom and my step dad! Help please!
can you give me help, my parents always tease me for acting gay but i haven't come out yet. i'm scared they will tease me even more when they know!!! please help!!
i've only known that i'm gay for around 3 months now. so far i only came out to my bestest friend. it was sooo hard to do and his reaction sorta confused me at first. he said that he has never had to think about that subject before, but he's fine with it. but to top it all off.....i'm in love with him. i know for the most part that he's straight, but i just can't let go of these feelings and i really don't want to. i just don't know what to do.
I'm 14 years old, a freshmen in high school, and literally just came out of the closet about 10 minutes ago. I told my non-biological Asian sisters, and they accepted me for who I was. I was scared, but once I told someone I felt stupid for being scared in the first place. There's nothing to worry about. There will always be at least one person there that will support you, if not more. When you feel the time is right, be proud of yourself and step out of that closet. I believe in you!
@Crime998 You hate gay* people. But I guess my typo wouldn't be completely inaccurate. I hear the closeted gays can be both emotionally and physically unpredictable. Go back to your gay porn and self-loathing. How about your mom should kill you for being a hateful, whiny bitch. Hmm?
I'm 15ish and I came out about two years ago and I never really put much value into the fact that I was gay. I didn't really feel it defined me as a person even though it is a part of me. I guess I'm really lucky that my family and friends are really liberal and accepting. I came out just because we were talking about gar marriage debates and I just casually said well "I'm gay so I guess I'm kind of biased," (we debate A LOT) and my parents were just like O.k. So i guess my advice is be urself<3
@iAshTV2 one of the things you need to understand is that people will remain to be ignorant to who you are no matter what your identity is. I was 13 when I decided I was going to come out, the next year I was raped in an alley becuase of people's ignorance. My advice to you is not to hide who you are, but don't broadcast it either, if you tell your friends who you are, that is fine, but not everyone has to know if you don't want them to. The best thing to do is to make sure your ready for it.
oh my god thank you so much!!!! ive wanted to tell people for so long and after watching this i actually come out and told my friends, then parents, and then they were fine with it. So now in a few months we r getting married, thank you soo much :)
Hey Davey, I took your advice to come out in stages so at the latest family reunion I wore a speedo at the water park and now they don't ask me why I don't bring a girl home for Christmas. So do you think they know???
It would have been GREAT to see this before coming out to my mom, while she was driving, and telling her the girl I'd been hanging out with all day was actually my girlfriend ... XD
Science and Religion should stop scrutinizing Gay people. Moms who secretly hate and reject the life growing in their wombs make their children gay. It is time to investigate the moms.
Check out this video on Youtube: "Mom made my sister Gay"
I came out to my mom early this year (I'm 18) & the first thing she said was "no you're not gay" & I was like "umm yes I am" & the second thing she said was "don't go blabbing about this to other people" like she was ashamed of me :\ then after that she went into major denial, & now every time I try to bring it up she gets mad & says she can't talk about my "issue" right now so I really can't talk to her for her to get comfortable with it :\
Only two of my friends know that I'm bisexual as well as transsexual. My sisters constantly tease me because I wear men's clothing and deodorant and ask if I'm 'special' in a nasty way. They don't know how much it hurts me, but I'm afraid of what they'll say if I actually did come out. Coming out as one thing is hard enough, but I really don't think I can manage both. Any advice?
@HisGraveMistake I'm transgender too, & I know how you feel, people don't understand; they don't know how much it hurts ..I'm scared as hell too, just letting you know that you're not alone<3
@do29382 Thank God.. . those pecs were getting a tad overexposed, just like the late John F. Kennedy Jr.’s and it was very hard to take him seriously.
so yeah my friends know, the whole school does, my parents know. but i dont know how to tell my extended family(well my cousin does cause hes like my bro). Any help?
I'm gay all my friends know it, but I'm having trouble letting my family know. I have trouble with confrontation so any tips on how to get over that. Also, I don't hate but just to mock the trolls, fag

i told my friends and my dad im bi, they were all supportive, but my dad lives across the country so i texted him it.... im scared to tell my mom cuz im scared shes not gonna let me have like sleepovers or hang out with girls anymore..

Why? it doesn't make sense!!!!

Thank god. I was hoping you would have enough respect for the newbies to actually, finally wear a shirt while telling them how to come out. If not, they just might come out by showing thier parents your shirtless ass video! Thier folks would be like, holy shit! Now you're gonna run around naked from here on out!?!?!?!
Xcorgi 3 months ago
hello all! just an honest question. whats the point of going out of your way to tell people you're gay or bi? i'm bi and i honestly don't feel the need to announce it. What does it do for you all who decide to "come out"?
breekwhal 3 months ago 2
@breekwhal
It allows your friends to get to know you better.
I don't feel the need to announce my sexuality to my family at all... but I think your friends deserve to get to know you better.
BLCaptainHeroin 1 month ago
@BLCaptainHeroin Yes. That makes more sense to me. I'm sort of don't ask don't tell. Not because i'm ashamed, but because i feel like its necessary. But of course it would be ridiculous to say that should be the same for everyone. Everyone has a different experience and situation.
breekwhal 1 month ago
@breekwhal
Well said!
I'm the same way though so thanks for sharing your input. : )
I don't expect all my straight friends to tell me all of their straight encounters... etc. : )

Wish me luck and ty again :)

i've only known that i'm gay for around 3 months now. so far i only came out to my bestest friend. it was sooo hard to do and his reaction sorta confused me at first. he said that he has never had to think about that subject before, but he's fine with it. but to top it all off.....i'm in love with him. i know for the most part that he's straight, but i just can't let go of these feelings and i really don't want to. i just don't know what to do.

@Crime998 Funny. You hate people and you're watching videos about how to come out with a sexy, gay man talking.
brightesttreearound 5 months ago 24
@Crime998 You hate gay* people. But I guess my typo wouldn't be completely inaccurate. I hear the closeted gays can be both emotionally and physically unpredictable. Go back to your gay porn and self-loathing. How about your mom should kill you for being a hateful, whiny bitch. Hmm?
brightesttreearound 5 months ago
I'm 15ish and I came out about two years ago and I never really put much value into the fact that I was gay. I didn't really feel it defined me as a person even though it is a part of me. I guess I'm really lucky that my family and friends are really liberal and accepting. I came out just because we were talking about gar marriage debates and I just casually said well "I'm gay so I guess I'm kind of biased," (we debate A LOT) and my parents were just like O.k. So i guess my advice is be urself<3

@Wickydkewl How do I come out at school because all of the gays at my school get beat up... Bad. (I'm 14)
iAshTV2 6 months ago
@iAshTV2 one of the things you need to understand is that people will remain to be ignorant to who you are no matter what your identity is. I was 13 when I decided I was going to come out, the next year I was raped in an alley becuase of people's ignorance. My advice to you is not to hide who you are, but don't broadcast it either, if you tell your friends who you are, that is fine, but not everyone has to know if you don't want them to. The best thing to do is to make sure your ready for it.

Science and Religion should stop scrutinizing Gay people. Moms who secretly hate and reject the life growing in their wombs make their children gay. It is time to investigate the moms.

Only two of my friends know that I'm bisexual as well as transsexual. My sisters constantly tease me because I wear men's clothing and deodorant and ask if I'm 'special' in a nasty way.
