  • This is a great cover of a great song. I love Kirsty's original, I love Tracey's hit cover (which includes Kirsty's "bay-bee!"), and I love this one. It's all good, folks.

  • 1:59 Baybee

  • beautiful (: <3 i love katrina (: <3

  • I've never heard a bad version of this song. Katrina does it righteous justice.

  • Even THIS soft version is moving!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This video proves two things. 1. Katrina is a proper singer- I had no idea! (as much as I like Walking on Sunshine!)

    2. This is a great song, open to many different interpretations.

  • Fantastic. A beautiful version. Very moving.

  • Nice version, and I respect others comments here - but in my opinion the original artist (Kirsty in this case) understands the song, and its my opinion that they usually sing in best. Kirsty was original - RIP my love

  • what a sad version !!!

  • I like Tracy's better and then Kristy's...but this is not bad and just a little more low key..she did her own version and it works

  • Katrina for President! Great Women!

  • I adore Kirsty's original, I really like Tracey Ullman's version, but Katrina added something that shows the real potential of the song. Which - in a way - is an hommage to Kirsty MacColl. And that's why I bring up a toast to Kirsty MacColl, who would have gone very far, if destiny had allowed her to.

  • @marais75012 A toast in return....one can only imagine.

  • Kirsty's much better. Great singer but doesn't work for me at all.

  • I love Katrina's version, this is a great acoustic version. Tracy Ulmans version was more high impact!

  • I like both versions of this song, BUT I like Tracy's version better it makes you want to dance!

  • This is an incredible rendition!

  • I didn`t know this existed. This puts a new spin plus seriousness in a old comedy song. Even so I love Tracy Ullman`s version, this version holds it`s own as well. Thanks for posting this.

  • Great version!

  • Aren't many things better in life than hearing a beautiful lady sing a beautiful song.

  • soo awesome 8) lovin it xx

  • boring!!!

  • This is a stunning version of the song. I have loved this since Kirsty Maccoll wrote it in 1979, through the Maccoll directed version by Tracey Ullman, and I never thought I'd hear a modern version. Katrina has done a lovely job, I didn't realise she did this type of singing - much better than her pop stuff, in my opinion.

  • arguing over which version is best is silly. each version is a different and legitimate ARRANGEMENT of the song. each has it's merits and different people will like them for different reasons....it's a great song...it works in just about EVERY version i've seen here on youtube. katrina does a beautiful job.

  • Beautiful. Katrina was always a superb vocalist and this is a terrific variation on a truly great song.

  • This is a very nice version. To compare it to Tracey Ullman or Kirsty MacColl is unfair as this song is written in a different format. This is the type of song meant to be played for a couple as they snuggle before a fireplace before going to the bedroom. The other versions are pop versions. Kirsty would have been honored to hear the lyrics that she wrote being sung in such a beautiful format.

  • i agree; it's an excellent version of this song. i'm in a bad place, so this version hasn't helped me at the moment:-)

  • Sorry for your situation. I hope that you resolve it soon.

I would also like to add that this is a new direction for the singer. When she was younger, she had a more energetic beat in her songs. Now she is older, and has a slower, mellowed musical beat. A lot of rock singers are making a second career in this manner, and it's really neat.

  • it will take awhile for me to fix these emotions. basically, i'm paying the price for past mistakes. too bad this "friend" would give me a pass. anyways, great tune!

  • Its always easier to sing material that someone else wrote and sang. The Original is always the best because it took the most effort and creativity; not someone else who says "Oh, I can improve on that song"

  • this is by far the best version

  • This is just absolutely beautiful... Caution: <---grown man cryin' here!! haha... thank you for posting!

  • i love this version and Kristy's verson.

  • @aquatodabone Kristy? It's kIRsty.

  • They've finally done it justice, that's what

  • oh please....... This is the best thing that could happen to this song.

  • lovely

  • She did such a good job with this song !!!!

She really made it her Own, Congrats Katrina

  • OMG she redid Tracy Ullmans song?

Damn when was this done I never knew till now

  • To Wheeljack35:

Actually Kirsty MacColl's song, she wrote it and recorded it. Tracey Ullman did have the big hit with it though

  • I stand corrected

See you learn something new everyday nomatter what your age is :P

  • beautiful song

  • Yes it is

  • Beautiful song

  • Nice and simple.

    Sweet :)

  • Like this? Check the version of Nailpin !!!!

    Belgium Proud!!

  • belgium ftw!!!!

  • I love this sogn . I really like her music.

  • Katrina does a great job, but Tracy Ullman's version was so deliciously campy that I can't enjoy anyone else's version.

  • I agree, Tracey's version is the best but this is a nice video... Katrina is very talented...

  • 01hans1963: Jawohl!

  • I encountered this song in the 80s, when Tracey Ullman pulled off her version. I liked it, I bought the record. I later discovered the original Kirstey McColl, and I still adore it. Now i make acquaintance of Katrina's version, and I must say, she's got it right.

BTW, Katrina does a perfect cover of the Animal's "Gotta get out of this place".

  • way cool

  • 1º Kristy MacColl (R.I.P)

    2º Tracey Ullman

    3º Katrina

  • 1) Kristy MacColl (R.I.P)

    2) GIN BLOSSOMS!!!!!

    3) Katrina

the gin blossoms' one the gratest cover!!!!

Sorry I don't have a video to post with that one...

  • Gin Blossoms? ARe you Kidding? I have almost everything by the blossoms and Valez. solo, where do I find it?

  • 1. Randy Watson (he played Joe the Policeman on the What's Goin' Down episode of That's My Mama)

    2. Kirsty MacColl

    3. Gin Blossoms

    4. Katrina

    4+a lot. Tracey Ullman

  • Eine wunderschöne Version dieses Stücks.

  • I love this version! wow!! I only knew Tracy Ullman's version but this is soooo much better!!!

  • Lovely version of this song.

  • I love this song. A classic now.

  • This song will always be kristy maccoll's but katrina does a good job on it

  • I like Tracy Ullman's version the best. But this is good.

  • wow thanks for the share mndswpr brilliant

  • wow she can sing, great guitar also

  • Katrina is not only HOT...but she can sing anything!!!

  • I never heard this version before now. Very nice.

  • Wow, just stumbled upon this.....Katrina can rock - and roll gently....;-)))

    Great performance!

  • This is absolutely spellbinding!! xx

  • Its very nice and calming!!!

  • At first when i saw the heading i thought it would be terrible! But i love this version, where can i buy it online from??

  • that is brilliant, kirsty would have loved it. the acoustic guitar with the bare vocals is just spine tingling. thanks

  • nice

  • nice

  • The idea of "art" is simple. .personal interpretation. An apple in one person's eye is an orange in another's. Katrina doesn't ruin this song. In my view, her clear and distinctive vocals just make a beautiful song even more so. That's art. I'm often reminded of Tom Gray, an Atlanta artist who wrote "Money Changes Everything". The song was going nowhere until Cyndi Lauper recorded it. Now Tom is happily cashing those royalty checks. A GOOD song will always be just that. Good.

  • @mwolf49 good job you hit the nail on the head I like tracy's version because it is the one I grew up with but this is a wonderful interprtation of just a truly great song

  • beautiful job!

  • This is the rock version of it: v=sEavxDm9qEk :P. It's from a Belgian Groupe who called Nailpin.

  • r u nuts?she put a soul into the song.i love tracys version.sometimes its good too slow it down a bit.of course thats my opinion, and yours is yours.

  • Was this song recorded in the US, after Katrina broke with the waves? Which year?

  • A beautiful love song! Me n´my love are going to marrie this spring and this song coluld tell the story about us. Guss what song we will have at our wedding?

  • damn this song was ruined! It's meant to be an upbeat bubblegum type song...and now this version sounds like some emo heroin rock version...give tracey her song back...

  • Since when is this song "Traceys" ? Would you mean Tracey Ulman? The dodgy 80s comedian who never wrote it and did a crappy cover of it. Indeed Kirsty MaColl's version is better than this one, but it isn't an upbeat bubblegum anything...

  • You need to keep in mind that a lot of people like the pop version--that's why it's called pop!

  • Don't think anyone is disputing that.... but to criticise somethign on the basis that it is not like the original, when in fact that person is not aware of what the original is, then my comment becomes valid. i.e. The criticism was levelled that this song should be "bublegum pop" like "the original, with the misapprehension that Tracey Ulman's version was the original..... which it wasn't. I realise that my comment was viewed out of context, as it was a response to an earlier comment.

  • mmm.don't know about this one..i feel a happy pop feel is better..and whats with the "songs of praise" type video?

  • I love that..................

  • Great version....when was this recorded? I like Katrina....good singer. An American living abroad (her dad was in the military stationed in Europe).

  • Keep in mind Kirsty MacColl was 16 when she wrote They Don't Know, and it's a genre song eg; Girl Group. Tracey's version was in line with her comedy as well as Kirsty's sense of humor. This version is so unexpectedly sweet! I'm so glad I found it here!

  • Never thought I'd hear a better version than Kirsty. Brilliantly understated

  • Wow. That was perfect. Finally, a version of this song at the right tempo and with the consideration the lyrics deserve. Kat is consistently amazing and a gifted musician.

  • One of pop's most beautiful voices. I don't know why she never made it 'BIG big' (ie: Celine Dion type of fame). Maybe her time will come. I hope so!

  • This is beautiful - tracey's version was cheesey, kirsty's was badley produced - this is understated, straight to the point & totally sublime............

  • don't even watch - just listen - gorgeous....

  • Tracey's was campy get it rite! lol Kirsty's was poorly sang(She could of did better).... This is depressing. Bitch smile! lol :P

  • Signs of Judgement

  • Never heard of this version. I like it. I like Katrina. But, I still love the bittersweet upbeat of Kirsty and Tracey.

  • This is absolutely gorgeous...I had no idea it existed.

  • I have never heard this version before--BUT---how very simple, clear and emotional by being UNemotional--just very matter of fact in stating what IS---a situation exists that has become too difficult to just "dump in the bin" because others might deem it--possibly rightly--as madness or unsuitable. Try telling that to your own mind when it is overridden by your heart!--who wants to be sensible and safe anyway?--when a little madness can enrich the life we are allotted???--K xxxxxxxx

  • This is so true to life for me and a lovely version of an alredy great song from the much missed Kirsty. Thanks for posting it fabbyboy and I hope my friend K loves it as much as I do.

  • this woman does things to you with this song

  • very nicely done

  • Beautiful interpretation of a great song - thank you Katrina.

  • I LOVE this song - and Love Katrina - but NOBODY does this like Tracey Ulman!!! I fall in love all over again, every time I hear it. Kudos for posting!

  • Godammit. Just watched it again. Hanky, please.

  • It's on her album called 'They Don't Know'. Kirsty MacColl would be proud of this.

I've listneind to it about 40 times sitting here at my computer.

I'm inlove with this song ..

Thank you soo much for posting it.

  • Well done FabbyBoy for posting this video of a song by one of my all time favourite(and now sadly missed) female artists sung by my other all time favourite female artist. It's just fantastic. I had no idea Katrina had covered this song until now! Thanks!

  • This song stands the test of time. It ranks alongside the work of the most famous pop songwriters - Lennon and McCartney couldn't have done a better job.

    Sleep well Kirsty.

  • *loves Katrina*

  • When the strings come in on the second verse the song comes alive and captures the soul of the orginal recording

  • wow. fantastic. R.I.P. Kirsty

  • Sweet - but it's a bit of a choker, too...

  • Jesus...I'm choking up as I listen to this...

An amazing version and a reminder of what we lost when Kirsty was murdered. Glad to see Katrina Leskanich is recording again as well.

  • thank you! katrina does a lovely version.

  • nice

  • Beautiful version from Katrina

  • What a beautiful tribute to a sorely missed singer.
