hey nice rig man! I don't understand thought why you didn't spaced your video cards. The asus p6x58d does triple crossfire so why didnt you skip a pci E 2.0. I know that you can chose first and second to run on x16 and the third one on x1 but you can also run the first one on x16 and the other 2 on x8. I personally would rater run my second card on x8 and not deal with heat problems on the first one. Why aren't you doing that?
So how is the h50 setup, 2 extra fans attached? I love your case it's wicked. I have a cm storm scout, it's good but the hard drive bay limits me to 10.5 inches for video cards. I am upgrading to the 930 and a gigabyte ga ud3r and 6gb OCZ 1600 MHz. I am wondering between a xfx 5850 xxx or vapor x 5870. Price is an issue, great stuff dude
@AxemastaGAMING thanks dude, the H50 was in push-pull config with the fans both blowing air out of the case through the back. Just went to my local hardware store and got the extra screws from there. I now have a NHD14 cpu cooler, got rid of the H50, found the NHD14 far superior. As for the Vid cards mate, if money was an object (looks like its not) the 5850 are far better value and I've herd it o/c to 5870 specs very easily... Otherwise the VaporX is an Ace choice
@abshassan Thanks a bunch. I am not to sure if the h50 would fit as i have a 140mm fan on the back and its red led so I wouldnt want to ruin that. And thanks for the 5850 tips, i will get them instead. :)
Hey there, just a one more question, how is the dust filter on this one? Dose it have filters on the back, side and top? I'm so attracted to the case atm, I might buy it any minute ><
Hey mate, it has a dust filter on the two front intakes, on the PSU vent and on the bottom vent. I've got a side fan as well with my own custom filter.
cheers, really really nice case and controller, doesnt even look bad that you moved it back, ASUS for the win! Really nice beautiful system, you assembled it with professional detail! Nice GPU bios mod, I have heard of them but never seen the end result, hands down Im super impressed. i7 FTW!!
@monchichi025 Thank you mate, I've changed it around a bit since this vid. check check my latest vid with the Noctua NHD14. I'm also running it at 4.2ghz which is going sweet. Seriously you can't complain for a cheap case it does really well. very happy with it.
Hi, how noisy is the case with the side on, could you make a video with it on, also what are your idle temps for CPU, Im interested in buying one of these cases as the one ive got now is cheap so neather cool or quiet, when running prime95 with i5 750 it gets upto 100C and idles at 50. Thanks for response :) nice vid btw
thank you, the side panel does knock out a bit of noise, the front door helps alot too. It really depends on what fans you use, the stock fractal fans are near silent but they aren't that strong. No point posting a video as it will be hard to gauge especially with my shitty phone. As for your CPU temps, I'd be checking to see if your Heat-sink is mounted properly, it shouldn't get that high at all. Mine idles at 35-39 and max out at around 77-80, this is with HT on and Linpack runs.
@abshassan yer i was thinking that, I am using stock intel heat-sink but got my friend to build my PC for me as im a n00b when it comes to hardware ill have to ask him about it when he next comes online. thanks for quick response
@abshassan TY for advice I remounted my heat sink and gess what! it now idles at 40-35 and maxes out at 90-95 a great improvement compaired to what i had b4, now i just need to get that case and make it silent :0
@TheLittleWorldofGaz Thx mate, i have my cards running at 900/1250 everyday use, on average top card will reach high 70, low 80s, bottom card approx 10* cooler, they idle at 38-42* each
@TheLittleWorldofGaz to be honest with you, i don't know, i think it is, it sure looks and feels like it, but its no way same quality as say a Lan-Li brushed aluminum
Very nice system bro, I pretty much have the exact same system as you, I will leave you a link if you wanna check it out, just scroll down a bit and you'll spot the HIS cards, :)
1.With the door close on the front, how are the fans pulling in air?
2.Can you reply with a link to where disabling Hyperthreading is actually better for gaming? I've actually never heard that. Also does that allow you to OC the 930 more since it eats less voltage and creates less heat?
@signwearer 1. on both side of the front bezel there is slotted vents and also an opening below the door for plenty of airflow.
2.I don't have a link from the top of my head, Google it, it normally creates stutter and framedrops with games that don't support HT, to be honest, i have yet to come across this, my main reason is shaving off some temps, the 930 is a warm chip and unless you do watercooling, a 4ghz with HT on is near the 90*C range with HT on. I get 79* with HT off ..
my i7 920 with megashadow@4.2 gets 82° with HT on @ prime95 after 5hrs. with HT off around 70. whats your voltage for 4.0ghz? your temps sounds to hot imo.
@Diplo1337, now that its winter in Sydney, Aus, my room temp has been in the Mid 20*, when i made this video it was summer and my room was very hot, hence why i turned HT off to keep the chip a little cooler.
However, more recent runs have yielded much better temps.
3.Total airflow is, 2 intake on front, 1 on bottom. To blowers on top and a pushout/pullin on back? Do I have that correct?
I will be building a similar system soon. Although only 1 5870 (XFX) and I will only be air cooling my CPU as I'm not a huge modder or anything and water cooling scares me. I know I wont get my 930 up to 4Ghz but I'm hoping for 3.3 at least with my CM Hyper 212 plus.
I keep tossing and turning about buying this case or the silverstone RV02. Still cant decide but out of curiosity what are your temps like when gaming etc?
@oldmanwhithers, mainboard temp (according to bios) is 30degrees Celsius, CPU idles at around 40-42*C and with LinX runs hits 75-79* but everyday usuage never goes over 60*
The cards idle at 42* for top card and 32* for the bottom, gaming reaches high 70* for top card and approx 10* cooler for the bottom according to Afterburner.
I have 3 x 140mm fans 3x 120mm fans so airflow is fantastic.
damn! for me, since I like to keep my cpu cool, they stay at 28-32* during everyday use, and when I game it shoots up to at max 40*
(I have a Thermtake v9 and I cut the window on one side to put in another fan.
Also, only 6gb ram with that sick comp? I have i7 960 at 3.7ghz 1x 5870 and I got 12gbs ram at 1600mhz... maybe thats just cause I design games for my friends, but with those crossfired 5870s, I would get the 12gbs
@skulspike92 hey mate, the 930 are known for being a pretty warm chip, even a Noctua D14 has trouble keeping it under 70* with HT on, but my temps are pretty safe. As for the 12gb ram, its a waste of cash for everyday gaming use, unless you do heavy ram intensive work like photoshop, sound engineering or using your computer as a server, your better of putting that money towards something more substantial. i.e SSD, another video card etc,
yea, I see were your coming from since I am going to buy some SSD's and raid0 them soon, and also I only use UDK(game making software) about a week every 3 months
The Define R2 looks like a great case, gonna save up for one myself. It has a lot of the things i love about my Mini P180 like the door and front fan placement but just a whole lot bigger :)
@Aaronage1 great thing is, its not an expensive case at all, i paid $159 (AUD dollars) and was really impressed with its features and quality. I use to have a Thermaltake Armor MX which at the time cost me $169, but the build quality and finish was just cheap and tacky, plus the plastic clips that hold your PCI devices were cheap and I snapped a few of them.
All i can say is, do it, you wont regret the purchase, it can be a nice silent PC, or you can load it up with fans for great airflow!
Why would you destroy your build with a crappy DLink usb wireless? So many bad memories.. The problem is that the signal needs to go through the usb and not PCI/-E channels, with brings your bandwith sequence way down..
i thought the fan controller looked nice just a bit pushed in...

I might get one of those baby later this month.

@SnowmuchX the front fan is 2 x 120mm, rear is 120mm and you've got space for two x 140mm at the top and a 140mm as a side fan on the panel.

apart from that, great mobo
