  • @laurynas4959 you cant (probably cant, depending on your current flexibility/ your own muscles ability to adapt) why would you want to do it in 1 month anyways? Aim to do it in 1 to 2 years. Look up Tom Kurz.

  • @legdned if u stretch properly u can do side splits in a month, if u over stretch u tear ur muscle and it has to regrow making u less flexible, maybe thats wats happening to u

  • @ryanj186 try warming up longer for least 5 to 10 minutes: Jumping jacks, squats, jogging in place, etc. prior to any stretching program. you should feel energized after warmup not tired. nonetheless, warmup works for me.

  • see my problem isnt with the pain of the actuall strecth etc. its more to do with the pain on the outside of the hip...when trying to do the exact same stretch this guy just did.

  • TO DO A STRADDLE SPLIT IS QUITE DIFFICULT AND PAINFUL. IT MAY ALSO INJURE THE TENDONS AND MUSCLES IF DONE FORCEFULLY. ONE HAS TO WARM UP FOR A FEW MINUTES, AND DO SOME KICKING EXERCISES PLUS A HORSE STANCE FOR 3-5 MINS. HORSE STANCE HELPS A LOT IN BUILDING CORE MUSCLE STRENGTH TO SUSTAIN THE STRAIN OF STRETCHING THE THIGH MUSCLES PLUS THE JOINTS. PRACTICING REGULARLY OR DAILY IMPROVES FLEXIBILITY. DO IT SLOWLY AND YOUR BODY WILL ADAPT NATURALLY, IN DUE TIME.

  • @MikelReegur Lol, I guess it was funny, but I was serious. Doesn't matter if Gi is white, black, blue, purple, or pure butt-ass nakedness. The martial arts are like church, "Come as you are." and wear whatever puts you in the right frame of mind.

  • @MikelReegur I have to agree with you on that my friend. I guess if given a choice I always preferred the black gi. Plain with the school patch. Not all the fancy designs and all. Just plain black. Nowadays my school doesnt even have a uniform.  Just a lack t shirt with the school logo. We practice in jeans and sneakers. My teacher believes in the essence and not all the extra shit.

  • cassavaeater: I'm 36, I'm a Taekwondo blackbelt and used to do complete split until about 24, I hadn't train until last month when I retruned to martial arts, it's a bit painful but if you are serious about your training and constant you should get there in a few weeks.

  • yes streching helps your kicking ability, strech everyday hold it to the point of pain for 5mins (not in pain but so you feel it, your see your self get better and better it you use a chair lean on it and then try spits this helps alot and takes the weight of your knees P.S JACKAL

  • @Lrdvltr No, it does not. It improves the agility of your muscles you need to kick high. But high kicking depends on a whole lot of other factors. I can go pretty far too while stretching. The high kicks are more a product of mental power and of course hard training.

  • @Lrdvltr Well, I'm no expert. But I do know splits are not a garanty for high kicks. Look up high kick stretching videos on Youtube. That should help you out.

  • @dangkoen Mental power? Hardly, more like static flexibility (looseness) which is developed dynamically (related to the recipricol inhibition of active stretching plus cold flexibility) and then needing enough power to launch the limb up there.

  • Scientific research has shown, after the initial 15-30 seconds of stretching your muscles will have stretched to their optimum! After that time, it is very marginal!

  • Do 4 X 25 push ups every morning - after each 25, stretch a split - it will come so much easier since your whole body and your mind will be "ready for this kind of effort".

    36 yo and i still have a complete facial split.

  • @TheStudeo74 Oh no I wasn't making fun of your English at all. I knew you meant 'full split'. I was simply saying I am so NOT flexible I get cramps when I try to do any stretches.

    Squeezing the feet together (almost like you are trying to slide and close your feet inwards) does indeed relax the muscles and you can open them even further.

  • Why not? It may take longer 4 U to do a split but with time and patience it should be possible.

  • Hey Mr. S. Thanks for posting these vids. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your training. I feel stronger and healthier and it's thanks to your guidance and that of your red belt assistant instructors. Keep up the great work! BTW - I don't know who these folks are that keep bashing USSD but it doesn't seem like have much respect for people and other disciplines. I always thought martial artists were better at controlling their ego. But I guess that has to do with who raised them too.

  • Standard red belt in karate at least is for Sandan which is 10dan. There aren't many of them in the world, and they're old people. Temporary red belt at least for us you hold in competitions (other has red belt other has his own belt) but you are required to have green belt to go to competitions. It varies so much depending on the company.

  • But from what I read, red belts = the strongest variety if there is that particular color in a class.

  • this guy is right. a red belt means you have come full circle in the life of karate. it is usually red with white even stripes along the whole belt. 50/50 both colors. it is the highest belt you can get in japan. not sure about mckarate in america though.

  • I have been stuck at 0:53 calibre of flexibility for AGES.... Hopefully this should help and the other stretching videos by expertvillage.

  • There are actually quite a few methods of advancing ones flexibility. Try warming up for at least 10 to 15 minutes,( ie. jumping jacks, running in place, jump rope, etc.) along with isometric stretching. ultimately you'll have to push the limits of discomfort to progress. No pain, no gain.

  • incorporate more isometric stretching and dynamic stretching after a 5 to 10 minute warmup. for more detailed info search elastic steel on youtube.

  • i think he means pressing your heels inward but not moving them so you feel the stretch in your inner legs

  • the squeezing he means is when u feel your legs are far apart try to keep your feet where they are but try to push your legs toward eachother while their apart. Try it like if uve ever used those grip strength thingies same thing. Try to do the same. Spread feet to where u feel a stretch and try to bring your feet together, as if your trying to bring your legs together, you should feel it on the insides of your legs.
